For the fourth time I awoke on the floor in room 100. I took a moment to carefully study the room and when I was certain nothing had changed, I took the master key from the door handle and began my journey.

I grabbed the extra master key from behind the front desk and checked several of the rooms on the first floor. There were no broken chairs, the beds were made and there was no sign of Jinxx and me destroying the place minutes ago.

I filled the elevator with chairs and a few items of different materials to test against the electric fence that took us down last time. I texted Jinxx to get him to meet me at the elevator but he said he was locked in his room and Jake hadn’t checked in. I observed Jake’s room door opening and closing on its own as I bailed Jinxx out of his own room and lead him to the elevator without a word.

After breaking into the underground parking lot and gaining access to the side street of the hotel, we stood facing the red line with an armload of chairs. At first we had a competition to see who could toss a chair further, but that grew old fast and we ended up sitting cautiously close to the red line staring at a pile of wood and chairs and waiting for something to happen.

“Nothing’s happening.” I announced.

“Nothing besides the farthest chair melting.” Jinxx pointed.

I watched as the chair began to sink into the ground like a deflating tire. Soon all but one of the chairs became gelatinous puddles in the street. The only chair intact was the one that landed atop another chair, giving us the notion that touching the ground was somehow the problem.

I was creating an Iron Man knockoff suit in my mind to walk across the red line with while Jinxx was tossing various materials across the line and timing their melting points when Andy sailed right past us on a skateboard. The wheels weren’t melting, Jinxx and I watched in awe.
