“Leaving so soon?” Andy stepped out from the other side of the door. I stopped running and stared blankly.

Jinxx ran ahead. “It’s a trap!” He shouted back to me.

“We have to get out of here.” I said to Andy, watching Jinxx.

“I’m afraid not.” Andy pointed to Jinxx. “I wouldn’t do that!”

Jinxx ignored him. “Come on CC!” He yelled, running to the point of where we’d set the wall on fire and stopping. He looked at the fire and back at me, a wall of flames on the other side of the plastic about to burst through at any moment. He threw his arms in the air and waved me over.

“Don’t do it.” Andy said.

“You have no idea what I’ve been through tonight.” I said angrily. I started jogging toward Jinxx.

“I’m warning you!” Andy shouted angrily.

Jinxx stood in place facing me, his hands braced on his thighs, he looked like he was about to fall over. “CC.” He gasped.

I ran faster.

He held out an arm signalling for me to stop. “Don’t.” He panted.

I turned around and looked at Andy, then back at Jinxx. I looked around at the large gray brick building next to the hotel, the empty street we were standing in, something didn’t feel right. I stopped running and saw somebody lying in the street in the distance beyond Jinxx.

I looked back at Andy again. “Don’t go any further CC.” He warned.

I looked at Jinxx in time to see him fall to his knees.

“What the hell did you do to him?” I yelled at Andy.

I stepped slowly toward Jinxx. He put his arms up again. “CC.” He waved his arms. “No.”

“I see you stepping away.” Andy shouted. He laughed briefly. “There’s no way out, Ceese.” He bowed his head.

“Jinxx.” I crouched down to meet him at eye level, a few feet away from him. “What did he do?”

I watched Jinxx breathing heavily. He pointed to the wall we’d set fire to, then waved his arm toward something beyond where we crouched. It looked like Ashley and Jake were lying on the ground.

Jinxx sounded like he said the word ‘voltage’ before he collapsed onto his back. I had the instinct to run up to him.

“CC!” Andy yelled. “Don’t go to him!”
