I looked at Jinxx and held my breath. “I don’t think this is a good idea.” I said and stepped back.

“Then don’t do it.” Ashley shrugged.

“Yeah, can you kick the door open?” Andy asked.

I looked at Jinxx and stood at the far edge of the door. “Okay.” I sighed. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before kicking the corner of the door open and sprinting backward away from it.

Ashley and Andy ran inside and started laughing. “HAAHAHAHA!” Ashley yelled. “There’s nothing in here!”

“Come on!” Andy shouted.

I stepped up to the doorway but Jinxx threw his arm across my chest to stop me. He looked me in the eyes and down at the door frame for a moment, then placed his foot in the doorway as though testing it.

“NOW!” Jake yelled. The spotlight came on and the door slammed shut.

“Check their rooms.” Jinxx started banging on Jake’s door.

I ran to Ashley’s room and scanned in, opening the door and seeing the chair where it was supposed to be. Ashley’s stuff was still in place. “ASHLEY!” I shouted. He wasn’t there.

I scanned into Andy’s room and he wasn’t inside. I checked under the bed and in the closets to see if Andy was somehow hiding in his room. Each time the chairs reappeared in our rooms they were in the exact same spot as though they’d never been moved.

“YOU FOOLED US! NOW OPEN THE DOOR!” Jinxx hollered.

“ANDY?!” I shouted into his room then into the hallway.

Jinxx stood at Jake’s closed door, laughing. “This the best prank ever.” He said to me.

“They’re not in their rooms.” I folded my arms over my chest. “What the fuck do we do?”

“They had to be in on this, their TVs were the only ones playing Jake’s parking lot video.” Jinxx shrugged. “I say we forget this whole ordeal and go to bed. You heard Ashley, he said there’s nothing in that room.”

“THEN WHY DIDN’T HE COME OUT?” I yelled at the door.

The door clicked and opened slightly.

I looked at Jinxx. He leaned against the wall. I pressed my index finger to my lips and kicked the door open.

We stared into the darkness of the room, not saying a word, trying not to breathe too loudly. After what seemed like an eternity of the door being open and us staring into darkness, the door closed on its own.

90 seconds later it clicked open slightly and closed on its own again.

“I’m going to sleep.” Jinxx said, moving slightly down the hallway.

“Wait.” I said to him. He stopped walking.

“You’re not going in there.” He turned around and glared.

“I have to know.” I said quietly.

The door clicked and opened.

“Are you coming?” I asked.

“No.” He nodded. “I’ll kick it open for you.” He stood where I was standing before Ashley and Andy ran into Jake’s room.

I handed Jinxx the master key incase I didn’t come back.

“Ready?” He said.

I closed my eyes.

“Wait.” He put a hand up. “I’ve got an idea.” He went into his room and returned, tying 2 bedsheets together end to end. “Put this around your waist, I’ll hold onto the other end.”

The door closed.

For a brief moment we laughed at the stupidity of it but I lifted my shirt and tied the end of the sheet in a knot around my waist.

The door opened.

I let out a deep breath and nodded to Jinxx.

Jinxx kicked the door open and I ran into Jake’s room, slamming my torso into the huge spotlight so Jinxx wouldn’t be completely blinded by it. “ANDY?!” I yelled.

A shadow of somebody’s outline appeared before me. I could hear him breathing close to me.

“NOW!” Jake shouted.

The spotlight turned on and I felt the sheet pulling me backward as Jinxx shouted my name. The spotlight blinded me again and I stumbled a few steps back before I heard the door slam and Jinxx kicking and beating his fists on the other side. The light was forcing my eyes closed.

When my eyes opened everything was blurry. I couldn’t figure out where I was.
