~ The Sun will Shine Again ~

Stars Can't Shine Without Darkness

*Flashback*

Star's P.O.V.~

I got off the plane to LA and instantly searched for my suitcases. "Welcome home my little Starburst." My dad exclaimed, smiling at me. I gave him a weak smile and continued to search for my bags. "Star Benson?" I turned to the voice who said my name. I found a boy around my age with black hair, holding my bags. "That's me! Thank you so much." I took the black duffel bags from his pale hands. "Xander, Xander Mills. And you're Star." He smiled gently at me, showing off his white teeth. "Wanna give me your number? I mean I've been sound here for about two years. I could show you around, make a new friend?" I nodded softly and plugged my number into his cellphone. "I'll see you around."

I let out a small smile and walked to the cab my dad was waiting in. I took a look at my surroundings, slightly admiring the view of the sunset shining over the skyscrapers. I didn't feel it until I was staring out the window. The feeling of emptiness. Alone. Betrayal. A single tear slid down my cheeks as I thought of how quickly he was to turn his back and not bother to listen. But why should he? I hurt him. After promising I wouldn't.

I stepped out of the car, staring wide eyed at the tall brick house in front of me. I estimated it being at least three stories high. I slowly dragged my suitcases up the pathway surrounded by beautiful rose bushes. "Well, here it is. How do you like it?" I shrugged and walked inside. The first room I walked into was the living room. A girl clearly younger than me was curled up on the couch listening to music wrapped under a cheetah blanket. "Kate, this is my daughter Star. Star, this is Marybeth's daughter, your step sister." She nodded shyly and said hello.

I walked into a spare bedroom with light blue walls and a queen sized bed. I stared in awe at the lavender comforters and pitch black vanity against the wall. I set down the suitcases on the bed and began to unpack.

.........

I pulled up my sweat pants to my knees and set up my laptop. I heard my phone go off, seeing a text from an unknown number.

-Hey, it's Xander from the airport- I lazily saved his number to my contacts before messaging him back.

-Hey Xander from the airport, what're you doing?-
-skateboard, you?-
-laying down. Where do you live anyway?-
-small apartment around Grand Ave. How about you newbie?-
-1507 S Mansfield Ave.-

I looked through Facebook and saw Violet posted something to my timeline. A picture of Sunni, Violet, and I when we just started tenth grade in front of our old tree. I sucked in a deep breath and closed my laptop.

-Xander, do you wanna hang out tonight? I could use a tour guide?-

I refuse to sit in my room and mope. I pull over my tank top and put on a grey tshirt with Jack Skellington on it and some jean shorts and walk downstairs. "I'm going out to explore, I'll be back later."

-Sure, I'll pick you up in five-

I paced their- my front yard until I saw a black Honda Civic SI pull into my driveway. My jaw drops as he climbs out of the car, gesturing me to go to the passenger side. He opens the door for me before jogging over to the other side. "Where to?" He asks, pressing the button to start the car. "Anywhere."

He took me to the park, a beautiful one in fact. Fountains and beautiful trees. We sat in the shadows of a willow tree and learned more about each other. He's 17 years old, dropped out of school at age 16, moved here away from his parents when he was 15 and wants to work for some sort of company someday. "Thank you..." I mumble, picking at the bright green of the grass. "For?" His soft voice asks. "I'm just a stranger, and you've been so welcoming." He smiled at me before dazing off with his smoky grey eyes.

I went back home that night, knowing that even if I had to lose some people to become happy, I'd always have someone. But I couldn't help thinking back to Andrew. No matter what I did, I was determined I'd never fully be over him.

We were suppose to be forever. And that's when I realized, even the stars can't shine without darkness.
