Kissing the Concrete
Chapter 51: Sounds like a plan
"Okay, Iris. It's time to cheer up!"
I was lying on my bed, my head buried in my soaked pillow. I knew that I needed to let go for a while, considering the fact that I had been doing nothing but either lying in my bed, going to school or being at the hospital and crying for Andy during this entire week. Painful indeed, but it wasn't like he was dead. He was just gone, and I had plenty of hope left for him to come back. I knew he could make it, and that he wanted to. But for some reason my mom decided to let Christian and Jake into my room to cheer me up, and now, they were basically hovering over me.
"Yeah, dude, you've been lying here for like forever. It's not like Andy's dead, he'll be fine! Come on!" Christian said, following Jake's attempt to state the obvious. I knew I needed to cheer up, I just didn't feel like it
"You're mourning someone who's going to be with you before you know it, and it's...it's just not a very smart thing to do."
"Yeah, dude-"
"I'm not a dude!" I said, smiling. The reaction I gave in to was surprising even to myself. Was I smiling?
"There's the Iris we all know and love!" CC said, sounding happy. "Come on, get up, step out of the pj's and get going! We have a great day ahead of us!"
"What? Are we going to McDonald's?" I said, lifting one eyebrow as to seem confused.
"We could. Or we could do some egging and drinking and checking out girls on the beach. Or maybe boys for you, I guess." Jake said.
"Yeah, whatever. Let's go for it, if anything to get out of these disgusting pj's. They're kind of...sweatsoaked."
I grabbed a pair of jeans and an oversized t-shirt, changed, brushed my teeth and headed out to the car where I was met by Jinxx and Ashley.
"Okay, so where are we heading then?" Jake asked.
"I've heard of this cool italian place. They have great pizza!" Ashley said, in response.
Italian food. Mine and Andy's first official date. I was reminded of him again and the sadness and grief crept into my emotional space. Jinxx, who happened to sit next to, seemed to notice how I suddenly turned less...alive, and patted me on the shoulder.
"Okay, so maybe not Italian food. What about Mcdonald's and then we'll see what we feel like doing afterwards?" CC said.
"Sounds like a plan!" I said, whiping away that one tear that escaped my eyes.
"I'm telling you, there's some great music there as well. Especially the early stuff." Jinxx said, reffering to something by Bach. I nodded, despite the fact that I didn't care that much for classical music.
"Boooring!" Ashley interupted. I took a sip from my coke, eager to hear what's next. "You know what's good? Black veil brides. They make some great stuff."
"Oh really? I heard they kinda suck. Especially that guy on the bass, he makes my ears bleed. What's his name? Ash...tray? I guess that would make sense, he sounds kinda burned."
An echo of "Oooh"'s sounded through and Ashley was just smirking. For the first time in a week, I was laughing. Really laugh. Guess these guys were my friends after all. Though I couldn't help but wander of to that place in my mind were all my memories with Andy were stored. I wondered if he would be back soon.
Notes
Just a quick, short and fun kind of filler going on here. More BVB, as promised.
This chapter made me kinda happy, in a way. Just because it was a positive break from the serious stuff.
I've been reading into a lot of feminism for the past day due to an upcoming debate and it is really tireing. Writing this is a welcome break, and knowing that there still are people reading makes it even more fun.
Thanks and I'm out for tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow!
