Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 52: The poison in our blood

"Hello, this is 5th street pizza delivery, may I take your order?" The lady said on speaker phone, as we all giggled a little bit.

"Yeah, I would like one order of the sushi and a side order of the miso soup delivered to the...um...street...like...now?" CC said and hung up before the lady could tell us that it most definately wasn't japanese food they were delivering. All of us started laughing like crazy at the prank, my stomach churning as I rolled around on the floor. I'll admit, none of us were completely sober, in fact, everyone except me were drunk as hell. I was tipsy, but I could still walk properly and I didn't feel extremely dizzy. After a day of weird shenanigans, one including having me dancing on the roof of a car belonging to someone we didn't know, we had ended up at Jake's place. Dinner was out of the question, we had eaten too much junk food that day, so instead we had brought out a lot of beer. I hated beer, but I didn't want to tell anyone, and it was the one drink in the cabinet that didn't remind me too much of Andy.

"Let's do another call!" CC said, completely wack and drunk out of his mind, barely able to speak.

"Yeah, Ashley, you try it!" I said, simply trying to avoid me having to do it. Nothing funny popped up in my mind.

"Yeah!" Jake screamed, getting back from the kitchen with a bottle of whiskey. It was weird to see his usually calm persona in this state, but it was great fun.

Another number was dialed and put on speaker phone. Unsuspectedly from my part, a familiar voice responded.

"Sutherland residence, Lexi speaking." She said. Oh great, Lexi.

"Yes, hello ms. Sutherland." Ashley said in an unusually dark voice of his. I guess he was trying to sound like someone else.

"Who is this?" Was heard from the other line.

"This is the NSA, my name is agent..."

He lost track of what he was going to say, but quickly turned his head to the beer bottle in front of him.

"...Brew. We have recorded some suspicious activity from your adress, do you know anything about this?"

"No?" She said, sounding confused. I giggled slightly in the background, along with Jinxx, who sat next to me. The other ones tried their best to be silent, but they all looked like blushing tomatoes from the strain.

"It appears you have been doing some highly illegal texting lately, involving a dude named, Andy, was it? You know that texting dudes named anyting beggining with an "A" is highly illegal? It says so in the patriot act."

"What type of texts are you talking about?"

"Oh you know, with the "Hi"'s and the "What's up"'s and the "k thanks bye"s. You could get some seroious jailtime miss Sutherland if you don't stop texting people with an A in the name. Also, you must be aware that the word "Hi" is illegal, right? It could get you to jail, miss. Bigtime, like, lifetime." Ashley said with a serious tone.

At this point, the entire room bursted with laughter , as Ashley ended the call with a barely audible "Okay, bye!" There was nothing as satisfying as hanging out with friends, especially friends who made you laugh.

Realizing that none of us were in the condition to drive, we all decided to have a sleepover. A weird sleepover, considering that we all slept on the floor. It was satisfying, and considering that this as the most fun I had had in a week, I guess it was good for me.

I could't sleep.

It was 5 a.m. and all of the guys were asleep. Until that moment I had completely forgotten about Andy, but as the night came crawling, the thoughts came too, and they were not good. Something didn't feel right, and since I hadn't seen him the day before, I didn't feel okay, knowing that he could be very much not fine.

In the plain dark, I reached for my phone and called a cab, knowing I couldn't drive.

I only had money for the way to the hospital, but I couldn't wait for me to sober up. There was something wrong, I just knew it, and I needed to see him. I guess he was an addiction in a way, but it was a lovely one.

As soon as I got to the room, I felt better. His heart was still beating, atleast that was good.

"Here again, ms Feeney?" A nurse said. It was the same nurse that I had met a week ago, the one who had told me to go home.

"Yes. I was worried. Someting new?"

"Well, there's good and there's bad news."

"Give me all of them."

"Well the good news is we have a diagnosis, and the bad news is that it is an inflammation that turned into acute sepsis."

"Is he going to make it?"

"There is a cure, and there is a possibility, even knowing that the insurance doesn't cover a lot. But there are some other bad news."

"What?"

"Well, the treatment is ongoing, but the insurance only covers so much. Which means, we're not gonna have to take him off life support in a week, but tomorrow afternoon."

Notes

Yes, I am back with the crappy cliffhangers again!

My joy of writing is back more than ever, and I am rather satisfied with this chapter. Other than writing this, I am working on a lot of other types of creative writing, mainly songwriting which is lovely.

The lovely comments make my day, by the way, so if you have anything to say about my work, say it!

Thanks for reading!
