Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 50: Two Weeks

Monday felt so empty without Andy. I hated having to go back to school not knowing if he was gonna be okay. Considering what had happened, he could probably die at any moment, aand that thought scared me a lot. I tried not to think about it too much during class though.

Surprisingly, I got some empathy from my usually apathic classmates. They never used to talk to me, but today was different. I guess they realized that I needed their support at this point in life, for once I was public about what had happened. Nothing had been said about the turbolent past I had with my boyfriend, and I had no reason to mention it today. I liked to focus on what was happening now. It was important.

My lunch break was spent with the band, as usual. This time, it was more awkward though. I had never thought about the fact that we never spent any time together without Andy, but we were still friends, all of us. More than anything, we needed to support each other and be prepared for the worst.

At the end of the day, I was lonely at school. Me and Phoenix weren't speaking, and Jenna wasn't at this school. The rest of the people around me, other than the band, weren't really friends with me. But since CC, Ashley, Jinxx and Jake all were going different places after school hours, I was left without anyone I wanted to hang with. I decided to visit my one true first choice, even though he couldn't be there for me. Whatever was about to happen, I needed to be there for him.

The hospital hallways felt even more cold and depressing than during the saturday for some reason. Even though I knew there still was hope, it felt as if I had already lost him. We hadn't talked, we hadn't even seen each other in the eyes since the incident and since his heart briefly stopped beating. But I was still hoping that I would hold him once again.

I entered the room were Andy was lying and looked down on his pale body. His chest was slowly rising and sinking, a sign that he was still breathing. Even when he wasn't there to look me in the eyes, he was perfect, gorgeous. A nurse entered the room.

"Good afternoon, miss Feeney." I realized at the familiar voice that it was the nurse from yesterday.

"Good afternoon. Any diagnosis yet?" I asked, not looking up for a second and moving from the side of the bed to where his head was lying.

"We're not entirely sure what it is, but we believe it is something in his blood. Possibly sepsis, maybe leukemia. He probably don't have much time left unless he wakes up really soon."

I nodded, understanding and uncapable of crying anymore. It was a somewhat apathic reaction, but I contained my feelings inside me. I wasn't shocked, other than at the fact that he hadn't told me about him feeling sick. Still, despite what she said, I wasn't afraid. There was still a lot of hope left in me.

"How much time?"

"Unless he wakes up, assuming we've found a definitive diagnosis and that we at that point have been running treatment for some time, unless his condition improves, we'll probably have to take him off life support in two weeks. We won't have enough money from that point on, nor will there be any point in continuing any possible treatment.

Two weeks. The ultimatum was two weeks.

I nodded once again, understanding the seriousness of the situation. It wasn't unexpected.

The focus of my eyes traveled across Andy's skin as I studied his frozen complexion. Still so beautiful. Realizing I had to leave made me feel sad. My lips reached down and kissed his forehead, right between his eyebrows, as I walked up and left. I thought that I saw a smirk on his face for a second, but when I turned around, it was gone.

There was still hope left in me.

Notes

Crappy filler, I know

I'll try getting some more BVB in it. I love to write CC-dialogue, for example, so I'll try fixing more happiness in the next chapter. There needs to be some light in every dark tunnel.

Comments are always appreciated, and I wanna thank the subscribers and other readers for staying with me despite the less happy themes and less frequent updates. You guys are amazing, and the reason that I sit up late writing this. Again.
