Kissing the Concrete

Chapter 49: Clear

Iris' P.O.V.

I walked slowly into the room where Andy was lying lifeless. A team of emergency personell was trying as best it could to wake him up from his to be eternal sleep, but it felt hopeless. I had his parents by my side, but the sight of him lying there was too much. My body was shaking and I felt the blood in my veins pump quickly through my body. I needed to get out of here before I was breaking down.

Andy's parents seemed to have noticed my sudden panic attack and his dad patted my shoulder as if to tell me it was all going to be okay. I noticed tears in both their eyes as we watched the scene happening before us. Attempt after attempt of restarting my boyfriend's heart passed by, but nothing. He was nothing but an empty shell.

Memories of us together passed through my mind as his perfect body jolted slightly from the defibrillators. A voice saying 'clear' was heard and another attempt was made, but I was already lost inside my mind. He was my first love, and he were to be my last.

The hundred of times we had embraced. The times I had cried for him. The times we had laughed together. It had been the times of our lives.

"Clear!"

Another electric shock.

I had hidden my face in my hands, thinking that didn't want to see anymore, but I looked up when I was suddenly surprised by a beep. Another beep shortly followed and the noises started coming in a steady stream. My face immediately turned to the heart monitor that showcased a steady stream of heartbeats.

He was alive.

I started to jump from the exitement of this revelation. In this awful scenario, there was a small glimpse of hope. The love of my life wasn't dead, he wasn't taken away from me, and I realized I could go on. We were going to be together again, it wasn't all over.

Patiently, I sat down on a chair in the room while doctors and nurses were running around, waiting for Andy to wake up. No diagnoses had been set yet, but blood tests were running and most things seemed to be completely normal. My fright and guilt wasn't with me anymore, I felt relieved, and prepared to wait forever to be the first to meet him when he wakes up.

I was waken up by a nurse in the middle of the night.

My head had been resting on nothing but the air in front of me, so when I first opened my eyes, all I could feel was the stabbing pain in my neck. Then I realized where I was and my first thought was that something must have happened. Was he awake?

I turned my head towards the bed, but he was lifeless. The grey-colored walls and the light from the window made him appear even more pale than he already was, but he looked peaceful. Just not very...awake.

"Miss Feeney?" The nurse said to me.

"Yeah?"

"I think you should be heading home. It's late."

"But...Andy?"

"As for now, he's on life support. The doctors are trying to diagnose him, but it is critical. We don't know when he'll wake up, or if he will wake up. We'll try keeping him alive as long as possible, but eventually, if he hasn't woken up..."

The thought struck me like thunder. What if he doesn't make it?

"We'll have to disconnect him."

I just wanted to dissapear. He couldn't leave me like this.

Notes

I was not expecting to get another update written, but...here I am

15 000+ views??? Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

It's too hot to sleep here, and I should be writing that stupid motion prep. But who wants to write about feminism when I can write this! And song lyrics. Been working on that too.

Thanks for reading and commenting. Ciao!
