Sons of Night

Chapter 30

Andy’s POV
I was awake, but I didn’t want to be. So I lay on my side with my eyes closed, pretending to be asleep. It was one of those mornings where maybe if I concentrated hard enough I could fall back asleep for another hour, unfortunately my body was not having it. I was thinking too much. About Mayden, mostly. I hadn’t seen her yet, and I wanted to see her badly. No one had told me if she was awake, or if she was in this hospital, just that she was alive. As for the other guys I got that they were also alive, and that I wasn’t allowed to see them. That was it. That was infuriating. I got thinking about that and there was no hope for me to go back to sleep. I laid there quietly for a while though anyway, I didn’t want to get up and face the day. Whatever the day had in store for me. No one would tell me that either. Eventually I had to move.
I sighed and rolled over onto my back. I opened my eyes and looked at the ceiling, it was painted gold from the sunlight streaming in through the window. I sighed and went to run my hand through my hair but the motion was stopped suddenly. I sat up, too quickly, and as the black spots disappeared from behind my eyes I saw that my right wrist was cuffed to the bed.
“Good morning, Mr. Biersack!” A voice said, I jumped and looked up. Sitting across the room was a man in a tan suit, his hair was slicked back, and there was a briefcase in his hand. A police officer stood in the corner of the room near the door. My stomach sank.
“Good morning,” I said slowly.
“I suppose that since I have been sitting in your room watching you sleep for the past hour and a half you should know who I am. I’m Agent Reciffo and I’m here to get you out of this mess,” He said holding up a badge.
“Is there a reason why I went to sleep a free man and woke up chained to the bed?” I asked.
“It’s for my safety, Mr. Biersack. We all know you are very smart, and we all know you have a temper,” He said. Then he stuck out a hand for me to shake, which I awkwardly shook with my left hand.
“I can barely make it to the bathroom by myself. What am I gonna do? Pass out on you and suffocate you to death?” I asked, trying to keep the edge out of my voice. To say the least I was grumpy.
“Just a precaution,” He said. At that a searing headache thumped through my head. I groaned and pressed the heel of my unrestrained palm to my forehead. Spots danced in front of my eyes. Agent Reciffo reached to the side of my bed and brought it up so I could sit back but still be sitting up. I leaned back and closed my eyes. When I looked back Agent Reciffo was shaking his head.
“Your boys tell me you took a pretty hard hit,” He said.
“Can you tell?” I asked with a slight bite of sarcasm.
“Is there anything I can do for you, Mr. Biersack, before I get started talking to you?” He asked.
“First call me Andy, and can you switch the cuff to the other hand so I can actually function a little,” I said. He stared at me for a second, judging. He was trying to decide if I was going to jump him or not when he took the cuff off.
“Sure, Andy,” He said. He motioned to the police officer who came over and unchained my right wrist, she handed the cuffs over me to Agent Reciffo who then chained my other wrist to the bed. I instantly felt better.
“If I can call you Andy then you can call Tim,” He said.
“Alright Tim. What do you need from me?” I asked.
“Well I need you to tell me your story, all of it from start to finish, from your life a few months before killing Cody to now. I need to know every detail. If you tell the same story as the rest of your friends then there is a way for me to get you out of this. You can be free. Just tell the truth,” he said. I took a deep breath. That was a lot.
“How will telling you all this make me less guilty?” I asked.
“The people are more interested in knowing what happened to you than punishing you I think. Your story is unreal, and if we can tell it, and tell it right, humanize you for the people. You will be seen as a hero, an underdog rather than killer. So be relatable, friendly and likable,” He said. I nodded.
“Will you guys let me see Mayden when I’m done talking to you?” I asked.
“After I’m done with you that will be up to the doctor to decide if the two of you are strong enough to hang out or not,” Tim said. I nodded again.
“Well I guess I should start, it’s a long story to tell,” I said.
“Do you mind if I record?” Tim asked. I shook my head, no. He opened his briefcase and pulled out a tape recorder. He set it on the pale blue sheet on my bed and with a solid click he hit the record button.
“This is Agent Timothy Reciffo, I am here with Andrew Biersack in his hospital room in Cincinnati. He has asked me to call him Andy so I will be referring to him as such throughout the course of this interview. Officer Kurt Migton is standing guard at the door, nurses will be coming in and out throughout the interview to check on Andy, pay them no mind,” Tim said to the recorder. Then he turned to look at me. “Tell me, everything. We’ll start with your freshman year of high school. Tell me about your home life,”
So I started, and I told him everything there was to tell. Everything. Crushes, music, favorite activities, my parents, pets, and sports. Anything you could think of before we even mentioned the murder. I could see what Tim was doing. The recording would probably be released to the public and he wanted people to know that I was human just like them, and at the time of the killings I was just a kid. When he did bring up the murders he brought it up gently, like it was a sore subject for me. I was glad because the talk of my life before made me a bit emotional. As we talked nurses came in checked me out, tried to give me pain meds, which I denied, and we ate breakfast and lunch together. It was a long time.
By the end of the interview I was exhausted, mentally that is. I hadn’t held anything back. It was all truth, nothing but the truth, and the whole truth. All of it that I could remember. All I could hope was that the other guys did the same thing and that Agent Timothy Reciffo had a good plan up his sleeve to get us our freedom. I sat back in my bed and looked up to the ceiling.
“You did a real good job, Andy,” Tim said nodding approvingly as he put his tape recorder in his bag.
“I try,” I replied with a hint of a smirk.
“The people will like you. For a good while though I need you to remember that you’re buying your freedom by selling yourself. The people need to like you. You’re good looking and a naturally friendly, so you have that going for you. Just keep up the good guy vibe and we can get you out of this. Andy you are big news. You need to keep your head about you, there will be cameras on you every second of every day, you need to hold yourself together and be strong. You talked today about social anxiety, you have to learn to handle that and very quickly. You’ll be out of the hospital soon but before you are I’ll let a psychologist in here to do an evaluation of you, and give you some tips for dealing with crowds and loud situations and stuff like that,” Tim said.
“Thank you,” I said.
“Anything else you need from me?” He asked.
“I want to go see Mayden,”
“I’ll go find you doctor for you,”

Notes

Gah! I'm so tired. Thanks for reading, leave me a comment and let me know what you think. There may be a very short sequel to this that comes out after this story and the prequel are done. Maybe, I don't know.
