If Hell were any Closer

Chapter 3

Nikki's POV:

I bite my lip nervously as I wait patiently at the park near my house. Cody's back in town for the week-end, and he promised he'd take some time to meet up with me. That's today I guess. To say I am nervous or anxious is probably fairly accurate. I mean, I haven't seen my best friend in a year; I hope nothing major has changed for him.

I swing aimlessly back and forth softly, using my feet to push off the ground, propelling myself forward ever so slightly. I keep my eyes trained on the ground, silently thinking up every possible outcome. Maybe he's changed drastically, and isn't the same person I remember and love, or maybe he is exactly the same. Perhaps he doesn't care for me anymore and has moved on from our friendship, and he's not into the same things like before, such as Blink 182 and Sum 41. I hope not. Those were some of the main things we had in common, our love for the same music.

I look up just in time to see him approaching, smiling broadly when he spots my lone from. I grin and stand, and the second he's within arms-length, I am pulled into a warm, familiar hug. I squeeze my best friend back before pulling away so I can get a clear look at him. He doesn't seem changed at all, maybe a little older, more mature maybe, but other than that, he is entirely unchanged. Thank god for that.

"Hey Nik," he says softly, tucking a stray strand of hair behind me ear affectionately.

I smile and bite my lip again, "hey stranger. Been awhile."

His face drops ever so slightly but he quickly masks it, "yeah I know. Been busy working and such, how's school?"

"Great! But not the same without you or any of the other guys. I kiss some of them," I confess.

He nods in understanding, but his eyes flash with something, an unknown emotion. "Cody? you okay?"

He shakes his head, before composing his easy smile yet again, "of course. Just a little jet-legged."

"you're cheating!" I complain in an exasperated voice, hurling my remote controller into the couch cushions. For some reason, I feel an a=odd sense of de ja vu, like I've done the exact same thing before.
Probably because I'm constantly surrounded by cheaters.

"I am not cheating! I've just had a lot pf practice," he smirks smugly, waiting for my character to re-spawn. I swear the number of times I've had to do that already is a number that I am not proud of.

I roll my eyes at his cockiness, promptly pausing the game and shifting my body so I'm looking at him. "Want to do something else?"

He raises an eyebrow, "what you mean kick your ass at another game? That I'm okay with."

I shove him lightly, standing up. "I'm going to order a pizza, I'll be back."

Cody's POV:

I watch as she skips up the stairs, disappearing from sight. I exhale loudly as she leaves the room, my heart thumping loudly in my chest. Of course Nikki had to go and become this beautiful girl in the year I left, I mean, I always thought she was pretty and fun, but now... It's getting difficult t resist her. And she's my best friend. Yet at the same time, she's absolutely the perfect fit for me. Good god I think I'm whipped already.

I want her.

But she's a senior in high school, and does not for a fact think of me like that. So maybe if I can show her another side of me, or perhaps if I can get her to admit to having feelings for me, than things would work better. Yeah, that'd work.

Looks like I'll have to visit Cincinnati more often.

Notes

Third chapter really short and not too eventful. Looks like Cody finally has feelings for Nikki? Hmm.. I wonder what'll happen next?
