Thicker than Water

A Storm is Brewing

"Outlaw, go check the nearest gun store and stock up on ammo. We're going to need it to free our southern quadrant." Bandit said, reloading her gun with some of the remaining ammo we had. The years rebelling against the vamps had been tough; we had lost quite a few of our members. Shadow and Leia had been some of the casualties. Shadow had been Bandit's husband, and Leia had been Shadow's sister. Another thing about the rebellion; we never used our actual names. Even when we were on free time. Why? None of us bothered because why tell someone your actual name if you're going to end up dead or infected. It also helped protect our identities in case someone got caught and was forced to tell about the members.
"Yes ma'am." I nodded, slinging my shotgun over my shoulder and grabbing two handfuls of darts for my crossbow. Bandit went and gave orders to Deviant, Batgirl, and Scarecrow. Talon sauntered ove to me, her red hair flipping over her eyes.
"Bandit said I'm to go with you, just in case we don't get back to base before nightfall." She said, making me sigh. Bandit knew I didn't get along well with Talon, more or less I couldn't trust her. But what Bandit says, goes.
"Okay Talon, but you need to listen to me carefully. If I say run, you run, if I say jump you ask how high. Understand? I don't want to be responsible for your death." I snapped at her, walking out of our reinforced base. The sun shone down brightly on us, and we headed quickly out of base towards the center of town. It was completely abandoned, seeing as any human was taken to one of the Vampyre Capitals, where mile high walls surrounded the city, and it was impossible to escape. We arrived at a Walmart, rows upon rows of cars just sitting in the lot, waiting for their owners to come back. The doors were cracked open, and it took both Talon and I to open them. Sunlight streamed in weakly through cracks in the ceiling, and aisles were turned over. We carefully picked our way to the hunting section, where all of the ammo and guns had been thankfully left alone. Talon grabbed a huge duffle bag and we filled it with ammo and other weapons, including hunting knives and bows. After we filled four different duffle bags we headed back, noting the slowly sinking sun.
"Talon did you bring a walkie talkie?" I asked, holding my gun tightly. She nodded, pulling it out.
"This is Talon to base, over." She said into the walkie talkie, waiting for an answer. After five minutes with no response we tried again.
"This is Talon and Outlaw to base, over. Come in, do you hear us?" Still no reply. Then there was the sound of the walkie talkie responding.
"This is Bandit, do NOT return! Run! Save yoursel-" It cut off, and we heard the sound of static. We looked at each other, and saw the sun sink to just below the horizon.
