The star that burned so bright

Prologue

The walls were white, as white as a shark’s teeth before it attacks, the last white you see. The ceiling was a dirty brown and had large oak beams joining the circular room from all angles. The circular room had a clinical feel, metal trays with knives in a procession; white curtains to cover the huge windows and a single bed with a man lying on it. Another person in the room was a mousy brown haired man whose eyes were grey blue; he was wearing a suit but had taken off the jacket as a courtesy.

The final person in the room, excluding me, was Jack. I didn’t know him, or any other in the room, but somehow I knew he was called Jack. He has a bald patch on the top of his head and his hair appeared around the back and sides of his head; it looked like a doughnut with a bite taken from it. Jack had a glint in his eye and was facing the man who was lying on the bed.

I took time to examine the room once again, feeling like I had to. The room had one exit, a wooden door that stood tall within the room and showed me just how big the room was; somehow I knew this door led to a white walled spiral staircase. I heard and utterance…

“No more Jack, you just can’t do this anymore”

Jack’s reply was harsh “I can do it as long as I like; all I need is people and their stomachs”. I heard him giggle to himself in a way that sent a shiver down my spine. Jack walked over to the man on the bed, his skin was pale and his eyes closed. Jack continued the blood curdling giggle as he turned the man over, it took more effort that I would have expected and the man did not stir in his sleeping state. The man was bare.

“Good god! What did you do to him!? Why!?” The man with the mousy brown hair looked as appalled as I felt.

Looking at the man on the bed I saw his open stomach, flesh that was deep red hanging in every direction and wobbling like jelly from a child’s party. Jack’s finger was pointing to a part of the open flesh.

“Here it is, look. Do you see the darker spot?” Jack remained pointing, always pointing and smiling.

Curiously I looked at the man again, trying to hold back the bile rising in my throat. Sure enough there was a darker spot, a button size spot. Now that I was looking I really took time to observe the poor man on the bed, there was no sign of his missing flesh anywhere in the room. The man was bald like Jack but with no hair at all; his stomach looked like it had been hacked out with a shovel, there was a perfect square missing with the button like spot of dark red just to the right. His face looked young and I could see red rings upon the skin of his wrists. The thought hit me that Jack had kidnapped him; he had tied him up and brought him to this room where his fate was predestined.

My fear was only growing. Then a new figure emerged in my peripheral vision and I could see a man, young, with charcoal black hair and piercing blue eyes, like jewels. My focus swayed back to the scene before me and away from the beautiful new suspect.

“Jack you can’t do this anymore” The mousy brown haired man spoke again “enough is enough”.

A look of recognition lit up on Jack’s face and he lurched forward, grabbing the man by the throat. Jack laughed as the man attempted to scream. Did they not see me here? I wasn’t going to stick around to find out if I was next, I ran for the tall wooden door which hid my exit from me. I pushed the door as hard as possible and began to run and stumble down the spiral stairs which seemed to go on for an eternity.

As I ran down the many stairs I could still hear the man, he was scuffling around on the floor and managed to led out an animal like roar

"Andrew, we've lost contact. You must find her!" I heard a voice make the command to the one I knew was Andrew, the beautiful-eyed boy.

I heard steps on the stairs behind me, rushing just as fast as I was. He was going to get me. I had to run as fast as I could, like a small animal being chased by a preditor. I felt the fear, I felt his urgancy in the chase.

I fell on a step and screamed in pain and fear as one, I covered my ears. The scream was haunting me, my scream mixed with another as if a ghost was haunting me. The noise continued as I could not control my vocal outburst and the screaming turned into a great intensity as I sat up and the hard floor beneath me suddenly felt soft. I awoke in my bedroom alone and yelling, unable to stop. My hands were over my ears and my eyes were squeezed shut.

This was the third time this week I had encountered Jack.

Notes

So guys, this is some of my true writing. My horror writing. I love this genre so let me know how you think it is compared to my other story :) Don't worry there will still be romance, just bare with it and let the story unfold.
