Finding Grace

Boy or Girl?

I sat nervously, rapping my fingers against my knees as we sat in the waiting room
Andy was calmly flipping through a magazine, looking bored, but I couldn't sit still, shifting constantly.
I was here for a check up, nothing more, but we might be able to find out the babys gender today, and I was excited.
Andy acted like he didn't care, but he wanted a boy so bad he could hardly stand it, so for his sake. I hoped it was one.
I didn't care, I just wanted it to be okay.
I felt swollen today, and the cramps hadn't gone away like they'd said it would. I was hoping everything was okay, that there was nothing wrong, and it made me incredibly twitchy.
Plus we'd been here an hour already and it was getting on my nerves how late our appointment was getting.
"Calm down," Andy sighed, his hand closing over my jumping knee. "They'll call us back soon."
"But its taking forever!" I grumbled, craving a snickers ice cream. "And I'm hungry!"
"We just had Zaxbys."
"So? I want ice cream," I mumbled, and he sent me an amused glance. He squeezed my knee, then went back to his rock magazine, reading through the columns. He nudged me, and I glanced down, seeing a picture of us.
A big congratulations to Andy Biersack of BVB, and Leah Kabinov of EFG on the announcement of their child, which is to be expected in January, I read, seeing it was an old pic of us from when we'd first started working together, both of us decked out in paint and looking badass.
The couple seems happy, despite their short courtship, and us here at RaveMusic wish them the best.
"That's sweet," I murmured, and he nodded. "It's a good pic of us too."
"Mhm," I agreed, and my eyes cut to the door as a nurse appeared.
I groaned in frustration as she called someone else.
"I have to pee," I muttered. Hopping to my feet and striding to the bathroom. I returned a few minutes later, seeing Andy hadn't moved, but there was a slim, pretty girl sitting beside him, a pregnant woman on her other side.
I narrowed my eyes, and sat down, feeling slightly insecure and threatened.
Look how slim she is, I thought enviously. She wasn't carrying around a balloon.
"Leah Kabinov." a nurse suddenly called.
My head turned, and I popped to my feet eagerly, Andy hefting himself to his feet and following us in.
"Just sit here on the table and the doctor will be here shortly," the nurse sent us a generic smile, helping me up and then leaving the cramped room.
Damn it was cold in here.
Andy grimaced, staring at all the creepy baby posters and the smell all doctor offices seem to have.
"What do you think it is?" I asked, knotting my fingers. "I know you want a boy."
"I'm happy either way," he assured me from his chair. "It doesn't matter."
He didn't mean that, we both knew it.
I frowned, and looked down at my tummy, placing my hand on it protectively.
"Are we gonna have time to change the spare room around?" I sighed.
"Yeah, of course. The guys will help," Andy told me. "And it cant be hard to set the stuff up. It only needs like a bed and toys and stuff, right?"
"I guess." I sighed. "Vales mom said she would come up when its born and stay with me for a couple days."
"That's good," he nodded. "She'll know how to help out. With the diapers. And stuff." he frowned.
I picked at my jeans. "There's classes we can take to learn that stuff."
"I think we'll do fine on our own," he sighed. "It can't be that hard."
I gazed at him. "I don't have to move in, Andy. I can always just find my own place."
"Whar?" he stared at me, startled. "Why would you do that?"
"Because this is a lot to take in," I sighed, giving him an out. "I know it is. And it's going to be really hard. If you don't want ---."
"Leah, no," he stood and stepped to my side. "No way. You're my woman, and that's my kid, okay? I'm not gonna let you go anywhere. You're moving in when Warped is over, we'll make it work. And I know it's gonna be hard, but I'm in this for the long haul," he gave me a crooked smile, "and I'm not backing out."
"Are you sure? Because sometimes I want too."
Andy chuckled, and wrapped his warm arms around me, fighting off the chill of the room. "It's gonna be fine, angel, don't worry."
I leaned my head against him, hoping so.
I looked over as the door opened, and the doctor finally stepped inside, a harried smile on her face.
"Ms. Kabinov?"
"Yes."
"I'm Mary Harkins. Would you please lay back?"
Andy moved away, and I did as told with a grimace; I would never get back up by myself.
She pulled my loose shirt up over my stomach, spreading the cold gel out across my skin.
"So, are we voting boy or girl?" she asked, getting the machine ready.
"Boy."
"Girl."
The doctor looked at us in amusement, and a smile tugged at my lips as I looked at Andy.
He chuckled, holding my hand as she fired up her machine and pressed the handle against my stomach.
I could see the baby this time, it huge on the screen, all curled up on itself.
"It looks like an alien."
"Andy!" I smacked his arm, and he chuckled.
"Well it does."
"So boy or girl?" I asked eagerly, listening to its loud heartbeat come through the speakers.
"Well, I'm afraid I can't quite tell," she sighed. "The babys hand is in the way."
I felt so disappointed.
I had wanted to know so badly.
"Wait," I watched as the babys hand moved slightly. "It looks like a girl."
I didn't miss Andys disappointed look, but I ignored it.
"Are you sure?" I pressed.
"Not completely. I just got a glimpse, and sometimes even doctors are mistaken," she chuckled. "So a boy is still a possibility. You'll have to get another check up in a couple weeks to make sure."
A girl!
I was so excited.
But we hadn't picked out a girl name, I realized; Andy had been so set on a boy we hadn't even discussed another name.
I hoped he wasn't too disappointed.

Notes

So it looks like a girl! Yay!

And since its the weekend, my updates may be slow, as that is when I get the busiest, so don't hate me!
But I did write some chapters up in advance, so there shouldn't be any worries until maybe Sunday that I might skip an update.
Enjoy!
