Finding Grace

No Maybe, Yes Baby

"Thanks for coming with me," I mumbled wearily; I hadn't slept any last night.
Ashley sighed where he sat in the plastic chair beside me, his arms run out along the back, legs stretched out; he was in his concert gear, black paint included, and so was I, having to leave between performances to make it here.
I'd been leaving when I'd run into him, and had kind of guilted him into coming with me because I was scared and pathetic and didn't want to be by myself.
Everyone just kept staring at us, but I didn't blame them.
Ashley was kind of imposing and intimidating with that scowl on his face.
"This should be Andy," he muttered at me. "You need to tell him. It's his kid."
"I don't know for sure yet," I scowled at him. "I don't wanna say anything without being sure."
"Leah ---."
"Ms. Kabinov?" the nurse suddenly called.
My head jerked in the direction of the door, and I tumbled to my feet, my hand clamping on Ashleys wrist and pulling him forcefully behind me as I walked shakily to the doors.
We followed the nurse to a room where she left us after making sure we were settled in.
I pulled myself up onto the awkward table, Ashley looking around.
"Are you sure you need me for this?" he asked, looking nervous. "I mean, wouldn't Vale be a more appropriate person for this?"
"So she can yell at me and call me an idiot for not being more careful?" I muttered, shaking my head. "No way."
Ash sighed, sitting down in one of the chairs.
"What are you gonna do, Leah?" he asked after a moment. "Once they confirm it?"
"I dunno," I fidgeted. "I don't know how Andy ---."
"Andys gonna take it fine," Ashley rolled his eyes at me. "Don't be an idiot. I mean, he'll probably be a little shocked in the beginning, but he loves you. You can see how much he loves you. And this isn't something you should keep from him."
I hoped so.
"I'll tell him," I whispered. "After I know."
Ashley just sighed, looking at me.
"You need to stop freaking out over this before you make yourself sick. You didn't get any sleep last night, did you?"
I shook my head.
"That's not good for you or the baby."
I cringed at the word.
We both looked oved as the door opened, and a smiling doctor stepped inside.
"Hello! I'm Dr. Raven," she greeted us. "You're Leah Kabinov, yes?"
I nodded.
"Is this your boyfriend?"
"Friend," I corrected, seeing Ashley shift uncomfortably.
"Ah. So, you're pregnant?"
I hesitated. "I took a test, and it was positive. I'm not sure how far along I am, though. I don't have a period, so I have no idea."
"Well, we'll just see. Lie back," she ordered, and I did, clenching my hands. She lifted my shirt off my stomach, and I grimaced as I heard the snap of those plastic gloves. She rubbed some cold gel on my skin, glancing down at my stomach as she noticed my tattoos peeking over the hem of my jeans.
"Now hold still," she ordered, lifting up a small thing connected to the larger machine I'd seen them use in the movies; I had no idea what it was called.
I felt Ashleys warm hand close comfortingly over mine, forcing my fingers to relax, and he sent me a calming smile.
"Well, it looks like you're actually about ten weeks along," Dr. Raven said after a moment. "Which is two months, almost three."
Two months?!
I stared at the small monitor, everything gray.
What was she even looking at?
"Where is it?" Ashley asked, just as confused as me.
The doctor chuckled, and pointed along the lines.
"Here, you can see the toes and fingers starting to form, and there's the jaw line. You'll have to be between sixteen to twenty weeks before we can tell the sex. Do you have a preference?"
"Not really." I stared at the screen.
That was my baby?
Those little fuzzy lines?
I mean, an actual baby?
The doctor sent me another kind smile. "Your due date will probably be in January from the look of it, December if you're early."
Oh god this was real then.
"Would you like a picture?"
"Sure."
A few minutes later She cleaned the gel off my stomach, and I sat up, feeling sick. Ashley tugged my shirt down for me, looking at me worriedly.
"Are you okay?"
"I feel sick," I whispered, the doctor magically producing a tray.
"It happens in your trimester," she told me, setting the tray in my lap. "I'll go get some information packets for you on what to expect. I'm assuming this is your first?"
I nodded.
The doctor patted my knee sympathetically. "Is the father around?"
I swallowed, and nodded. "Yes, I just... I haven't told him."
"Well, now would be the time to do so," she warned me, "even if you decide not to keep it, it should be a decision between the two of you."
I blanched at the idea.
I couldn't get rid of it!
Not now that I knew it was real.
The idea of losing the child now made me feel sicker then ever.
When she returned, she handed me a bunch of papers and a grainy black and white photo, pointing out once again where it was.
Ashley rubbed my arms, and I leaned against him for support, staring at the photo.
This was real. I was really pregnant. This was my baby.
My eyes traced the lines.
I was really going to have a baby, no maybes left about it.
A baby.
I had to tell Andy.
"C'mon, Lee, we gotta get going," Ashley said after a moment. "I can't be late for the show."
I nodded, feeling a little numb, and I let him pull me out of the cold room, and eventually we made our way back to the Warped grounds.
"I can't believe this," I muttered, staring at the picture again.
"You better believe it, sister," Ashley told me firmly, his hand on the center of my back as he guided me through the back gates. "Because it's happening."
It was, wasn't it?
I swallowed, feeling afraid.
Would I have to leave Warped? And what about all the baby gear? When did you start buying it? Where would I put it?
I couldn't live with Vale.
I mean, I could move in with Andy and we could change his spare room into a nursery, if he would even want too.
What if he didn't want to?
I was really starting to miss my meds, I felt like I was going crazy.
I stopped by my bus, Ashley pausing when I did.
"What is it?"
"I need a nap," I said after a moment, dropping the picture in my purse with the rest of the papers. "This is too much. Thanks for coming with me today."
"No problem," Ashley shrugged. "Now I know what to expect if it ever happens to me and Morgan."
I sighed, running my hands through my hair. "How do you think he's gonna take this? I feel like I'm ruining his life."
"Leah, no," he let his hands rest on my shoulders. "You know better then that. He loves you so much. And he'll love the little brat too."
I wrinkles my nose at him. "I'm gonna look like a whale."
"A pretty whale."
I smiled slightly, and chuckled.
"At least there's that," I sighed, and hugged him, my over-emotional hormones kicking in; I just needed a hug.
He hesitated, then let his arms rest around me.
"I don't know what I would do without you," I sighed.
"Go places by yourself?" he chuckled, patting my hair. "I always have your back when you need it."
"Thank you, Ashley."
I took a step back, and Ashley laughed, rubbing at my face where some of his black paint had smeared.
"Ash! There you --- Leah?"
We turned, seeing Andy hesitating by the bus over.
"What are you two doing over here?"
"Uh," Ashley looked at him blankly, stiffening.
He looked at me with wide eyes.
"I needed to run to town, and Ash came with me," I shrugged quickly.
I wanted to make sure I told him at the right time.
I couldn't just blurt it out.
"Oh. Ok. Well, Ash, cmon, our show starts soon." Andy was still frowning at us.
Ashley and I looked at each other, and then he took off, hurrying around the bus.
"Why didn't you ask me to go?" Andy asked after a moment. "I had plenty of time."
"Because I wasn't gonna be long, and I just sorta ran into Ash," I lied smoothly. "And ususlly you're to busy to go anywhere with me."
"Oh." he frowned again.
"Don't you have a show?" I reminded, and he nodded, taking a step back.
"Right. See ya later."
He would definitely be seeing me later, I sighed.
And probably for the next eighteen years for sure

Notes
