Rise From the Ashes

Chapter Nine

Violet's POV:

"You're the sixth Wild One."

That simple sentence kept ringing in my ears, constantly on repeat until it soaked into my brain. And all I could do was stare blankly at Andy, my jaw dropped slightly and my eyes widened. Surely he was joking, I mean, this was absurd. Me, being the sixth Wild One? I thought there was only supposed to be five... I mean, everyone had heard the stories that there was a missing piece to the rebellion, a lost member, a key aspect. But I never dreamed it would be me, the girl who had lost everything to F.E.A.R.

"Are you serious?" I ask, my voice barely audible at this point.

The guys nod, but my focus is glued to Andy. He smirks at me, a glint in his eyes, "welcome to the Wild Ones, Violet."

__

"What does being an official Wild One mean?" I ask a while later, jogging to catch up with Ash and Andy.

"The Wild Ones are the protectors of the rest of the rebels. We take risks more often and are usually the ones to deal with F.E.A.R, but don't worry, we won't have you facing them for awhile after that stunt you pulled," Andy gives me a pointed look and I instantly shut up.

Ash laughs, "Andy give the girl a break. She did manage to break into the city undetected. I think she can handle herself."

I smile at Ashley who winks in return before he jogs off in the other direction, something about patrolling or guns. Andy and I walk in silence for a few minutes, before I decided to speak again.

"How do you know I'm the sixth Wild One?"

He sighs and stops, "something someone told me a long time ago," and then he's walking again, the topic clearly dropped.

But I decide to push it, "that's it? Shouldn't I deserve to know what exactly I'm supposed to do? Who I'll be recognized as?"

"Drop it, Violet," Andy growls.

"Bullshit! You've been keeping something from me for awhile now, and I think I deserve to know!"

"Not everything revolves around you, Violet! I don't need to be telling you everything, especially when you had a mental breakdown, not even a week ago. You're still traumatized from what you went through, so no, I'm not going to tell you everything about our plans, especially if you keep on ruining them!" He shouts, and I shrink away from him unintentionally.

I'm speechless. I didn't expect such a angry reaction from Andy, but then again, I don't really know him, and I'm already sleeping in his tent.

"I think I should sleep somewhere else from now on," I whisper.

Andy's eyes widen, "what? No, Violet, I'm sorry I didn't mean to-"

"No, it's alright. Thank you for your original generosity." I say as I turn around, walking towards the common area. I need to think in peace.

"F.E.A.R took my family."

I pause. What?

I slowly turn around to see Andy exactly where he was standing before, although his gaze appears far off, his head tilted down and shoulders slumped. "They took my home from me. My little sister, my everything."

I frown and remain still, unsure what to say or do. So I stay silent.

"I came home one day, and I saw them. They killed my parents right on the spot, but her- they took her. My dad used to run things here, he was the leader of the Wild Ones before me. But then F.E.A.R came one day and killed so many. My parents, and they took her. She was nine." My heart breaks as Andy basically pours his heart out to me about his ruined childhood because of this corrupted society.

"I-Im so sorry Andy," I say in a small voice, approaching him quietly.

He doesn't say anything, he just continues to state blankly at grey wall, motionless. "Her name was Victoria."

"Beautiful name," I murmur softly.

He nods, "we tried to take her back. To free her. Ash and I broke into their camp, and found her. They hurt her. They carved words into her flesh and skinned parts of her body. Sh-she was so beautiful, and they raped her. She was a kid. And never will be a mother, or fall in love, or-" Andy breaks down after that.

I rush to his side and pull him into my arms, running my hands softly through his dark tresses, attempting to soothe him as best as I can. Tears of my own run down my cheeks as I think of that poor little girl who suffered a fate worse than death, of my own deceased family, and of my little sister who never got to experience life.

She was two when F.E.A.R cut off her head.
