Almost Easy (Janxx)

The Robot with Human Hair

*Jake's POV*
It was Andy's fault that Jinxx was far away from us. The Raiders provoked it, but he could have prevented it.

See, the Raiders were tyrannical and called themselves the 'New World Order'. They fed others to the living dead, sold people into slavery, and did other terrible things. The thing they were mainly known for forcing survivors to pay unfair taxes. If we didn't, they'd take people away from them. They usually stole jewelry or raped someone as substitutes for money. They were sick, twisted bastards.

Andy, who was our unofficial leader, refused to pay the taxes. He called them pathetic and weak. He thought he was keeping them away, but as soon as we all fell asleep, they kidnapped Jinxx.

I had stayed pissed at Andy for a few weeks until Jinxx sent us an email that he had escaped from the Raiders and was perfectly fine. I had been so worried about him. He was my best friend and I'd fallen in love with him a few years ago but could never admit it.
So now that we were so close to him, I felt anxious. I needed to see him in person. I wanted to hug him and make sure he hadn't been violated. I missed him so much. I'd spent so much time emailing and texting him but never grew enough courage to tell him how I truly felt.
"We almost there, Ash?" Andy asked.
"Yeah," Ash replied. We were almost in Portland county, which was where the farm Jinxx was at was located. "Very close. But be careful. The living dead are vicious here but there aren't very many."
"Alright, keep your guard up then," Andy announced. He looked to Juliet, who was still sick.
She'd been throwing up lately so we all feared that she was either sick, infected or maybe pregnant.
"Hang on, do we know what we're really doing?" CC asked. "I'm not trying to be annoying or bitchy but but I don't want to delay anything. Plus, Julet's sick and we need to find out what's wrong with her."
"That's Jake's job," Andy reminded. "Am I right, nurse Pitts?" He gave me a playful smirk and lightly punched my arm.
"I absoluetly hate that name," I said. "I'll see what medicines we have." I dug through my bag and found some pills for naseua. I handed the bottle to Juliet.

"Thanks," Juliet said weakly. She popped open the bottle and downed some pills.
"Not that many!" I warned. "If you're pregnant, you'll hurt the child."

"I'm sorry," Juliet replied. "Im really out of it."
"Okay. Rest. You'll need your strength, okay?" She merely nodded.
"Whoa, guys, check it out," Ashley said. He pointed out the window at the crumbling buildings. The whole area was in ruins. The sky was grey and filled with soot. Ashes and decaying bodies littered the roads. There was even a pile of bones and a few wolves resting near the rubble.
"Goddamn," I said. "How did Jinxx manage this, much less the girl he has with him?"
"He's good with maps. He figured it out," CC assured. "He's smart enough to escape the Raiders, so I'm sure he survived this." His eyes examined the ruins and darted to the dead sky. "This has Raiders written all over it."
"How do you know?" I asked.
"The symbol." He pointed at a crudely bent STOP sign, where a snake with a dagger going through the head was sketched out in black paint.
"Damn," I said. I swept my greasy hair from my face and continued to stare at a wolf tearing into one of the corpses. "They did way more damage than I thought possible."
"Yeah. I hope Jinxx is fine."
