An Angels Last Fall

Sometimes Falling ain't that Bad

After I had straightened my hair and threw on a pair of pants and a shirt Andy had asked if he could talk to me. He walked into my room and handed me a white phone. It was almost exactly like the one Juliet had given me but this one looked newer. It had a hard, off white case on it with an 8 on the back. http://www.polyvore.com/school/set?id=143389752

“I wanted you to have this.” Andy handed it to me. “It doesn’t have anything on it and it’s my older one.” He gave me a half smile.

I took the phone and hugged him tight. “Thank you.” I examined the phone. “Wait,” I said as he started to walk out. “Juliet didn’t mean to be rude like that did she? Maybe she was just having a bad day. Do you think I could call to apologize?”

Andy shook his head. “Don’t even think about her. She’s not good for you.” He walked close to me and ran the side of his hand on my cheek. “You don’t deserve to be hurt by anyone.

I smiled at him and he did the same at me. “Do we leave soon?” I asked seeing that it was almost nine am.

Andy nodded, “yeah as soon as Ashley finishes his hair we’ll go.” Before Andy left he turned around, still standing in the door way. “And maybe after, if we have time, I’ll take you to get clothes you actually want.” He smiled then left the room.

I held the phone in my hands. I pressed the button to see it light up with a picture of a water fall. There were trees all around it and flowers blooming by the water. The top read, “a drop is nothing, but an ocean can kill.”

The recording studio was pretty far. Almost 30 minutes away. Ashley let me sit up front with Andy driving. They turned the radio and seemed to know every word to every song. I asked if this was their new album but they said no. Jake, Jinxx, CC and 3 other people were waiting in the parking lot.

They greeted Andy and Ashley and introduced themselves to me. We, well I, was guided into the studio. A man with blond hair approached Andy and they exchanged words. Andy nodded and skipped into a separate room. We all laughed and were given chairs to sit in. The room had a large window that faced into another closed room with speakers and a chair. Head phones we set on the chair. Andy put the head phones on his ears and sat in the chair with no back. I watched him only as the people around me were messing with a giant board with buttons and levers on it. CC, Ashely, Jake, and Jinxx were talking with the man with blond hair and Andy was chiming in as well.

“Just a few things Andy. Not much, I just wanted to touch up Crown of Thorns before we release next week.” The man with blond hair said.

“Yup,” Andy nodded messing with his hair when his gaze caught mine.

I looked down at my hands fast and felt my face get hot. When music started I looked up at him again to see that his eyes were closed and he was preparing to sing. His voice was so familiar, so, intoxicating. Even though I could feel eyes from the other guys in the room burning into me I could not look away from Andy. I wanted to sing with him, to step inside of that room and feel the emotions that his face expressed as he sang those few lines.

When he was done touching up they spent another two hours going over the songs again to make sure they were prefect. I sat next to Andy on the couch and played with a batman mask that CC handed to me. What man was both man and bat? Of course we did watch that movie with the same character, maybe it was the same thing? Andy would occasionally ask me if I was hungry or thirsty, when I declined he brought me water anyway.

The day was finally coming to a close. “Is it alright if we just go home instead of going shopping? Maybe we can tomorrow?” I ask when he opens the passenger car door for me.

“Of course, I’m starving anyway.” He laughed getting in the driver seat and starting the car.

He smiled over to me before he put his car in reverse and I smiled back. We beat Ashley home, who left with Jake and Jinxx, and started to fix seasoned chicken salad with garlic bread. We sat at the bar with Ashley and laughed about the day. Andy and Ashley both had beers in their hand while I had a water in mine. The father’s son may have drank wine a few times in his life but alcohol was forbidden. Before I had finished Ashley got a call on his phone and bolted out of the house.

“What was that about?” I asked Andy, helping clean the dishes.

“Probably a booty call.”

“Whats a booty call?” I was serious but Andy laughed like it was a joke.

“Really?” He stopped laughing and looked me straight in the face when I did not even smile.

“Yes.” I placed the plates and cups into the sink and turned the hot water on.

“It’s uhm…” He rubbed the back of his neck. “It’s when someone is lonely or, horny, and they don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend so they call people who are lonely or horny too.”

Andy began rinsing the first plate and handed it to me to place in the dishwasher. “Oh, sounds…” I narrowed my eye brows and met his gaze. “Desperate.”

“Ashley doesn’t mind.” Andy said smiling, reaching for the next plate.

“So which is Ashley?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” Andy stopped and leaned against the counter.

“Horny, or lonely?” I grabbed an empty cup from the counter and placed it in the dishwasher.

Andy looked on front of him and narrowed his eye brows. “I would like to say just horny, but, it’s hard to say who fakes being happy.”

His sentence brought an ache to my heart. “People fake being happy?” I stopped placing dishes in the dishwasher.

Andy sighed, “I have…” he shrugged and went back to rinsing. “Sometimes it’s hard to trust people around you, you know?”

I rushed to Andy and hugged him tight. I rested my check against his neck. “You can always trust me. Never fake being happy.”

Andy wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head. It was surprising at first, when he pulled me away and looked at me with a shine in his eyes I knew that it was just friendly. “You are an innocent girl who loves the world, how did I deserve such a good friend?”

“Everyone deserves happiness, Andy.”

Andy smiled again and we stopped doing dishes and settled on the couch to watch movies that I, of course, had never seen. After the second movie had started I brought my feet onto the couch and leaned onto Andy a bit. He, saying was uncomfortable, put his arm around me and brought me closer to him. I rested my head on his chest and one of my hands on his leg. Andy sighed deeply and I did the same.

When the credits started to roll at the end I did not want to move. Andy was warm and comforting. Andy did not seem like he wanted to move either.

“I should get to bed.” I stated, finally sitting up.

“Yeah,” he said his arm still connected to my shoulder. He met my gaze and smiled. “There’s something about you that makes me feel…”

“Home.” I finished his sentence with what I felt when I was near him, I was home.

He smiled bigger and nodded. He glanced down to what assumed was either my chin or my lips. I panicked but didn’t move. My heart began to race and my cheeks got hot. “I wouldn’t ask to be anywhere else right now.” Andy got closer, I wanted to back away.

To say that I must go to bed. But I didn’t. Instead I found myself reaching closer to him. He ran the side of his hand over my right cheek and looked into my eyes again. He rested his hand on the crease of my neck. I leaned into it and sighed. He ran his thumb over my cheek and let his gaze wonder to my lips again. When he started to lean in closer and took a gulp. I knew what was happening but…for the first time I wasn’t going to stop it.

His lips met mine. They were soft and warm. He took a deep breath and I kissed him back. It was tender, gentle. His hand on me slightly, with mine on his knee. When his lips parted mine he rested his forehead on mine, his hand had moved to my cheek.

“Goodnight, Andy.” I stood up and walked up to my room without looking back. I was smiling like a fool.

My heart was racing, I closed my door behind me and started to giggle. I could not stop smiling for the life of me. I looked in the mirror on the dresser and ran my hands through my hair. I liked Andy, and maybe that was okay.
