Let Shadows Die
Chapter 22
Andy Carried Hope back to the bus and lay her in his bunk. He knew no one would find her there. He didn't want to take the chance of a hotel maid walking in and finding her. If anyone saw her right now they would assume she was dead. In truth they would only be half right. Her human body was dying. It was being reborn as something else.
He hated that toward the end she had been afraid, but each time he felt her fear rising he had tried to comfort her using their connection. She had done her best not to fight him and he was glad for that. Had she tried it would have turned painful for her.
He slept with her on the bus that night. It would be a while before she woke up, but he didn't want to leave her alone. The transformation could take anywhere from twenty-four hours to a week depending on ones genetic make up.
The worst was still yet to come. This had been the easy part. When she woke up the change would happen. She would wolf out for the first time. It would be painful for her. The only thing he could do was to be there and try to offer what little comfort he could. For now all he could do was wait.
