Let Shadows Die

Chapter 23

Hope swam up slowly into conciousness. As the fog began to lift from her mind, the pain came. Her entire body was on fire. She must be in hell. That was the only reason she could think of for being in such agony.

Her bones seemed to be breaking. Her joints were being pulled from their sockets. Ligaments and tendons were snapping. Her body was being twisted into impossible positions. And her skin felt as if it was being melted away.

After what seemed like hours, but had really only been minutes, the pain stopped. She became aware of where she was. She was in the back lounge of the bus. She realized Andy was holding her. Tears were streaming down her face. She lay there for a moment trying to catch her breath. She was afraid to move. Afraid that if she did the pain would come again. Shivers racked her body and Andy was stroking her fur.

Wait a minute. Why did she have fur? Then she remembered. Andy had changed her. She had just wolfed out for the first time.

"Is it over?" She asked. Her voice sounded raspy as if she had a bad could.
"Yes, baby, it's over. I'm sorry it was so hard for you." He replied clearly miserable.

She slowly set up. She walked across the room to a mirror. She wanted to see herself.

Her fur was white except for one patch of black where Andy had marked her while she was human. Her claws were also black. Her eyes were a light shade of violet. When she opened her mouth she saw she had the double fangs just like Andy.

"I look like a polar bear." she said.
Andy laughed. "A very cute polar bear." He said as he came up behind her. It was then she realized she was only a few inches shorter than him in his normal form. That meant she was almost six foot two.

"Holy crap. I'm so tall. This is weird." She said in suprise. "Um, Andy, how do I turn back to normal." she asked.
"That's easy. Just concentrate on changing back."

She did as he told her. She shrank back to her normal self. Thankfully there was no pain this time. "Is it always that painful?" she asked worriedly.
"No only the first time. It won't be so bad next time. I promise."

She breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't think she could handle it if it was always so painful.

"Now, we should go. You've been unconcious for five days. Your body needs blood." Andy said taking her hand.

This would be her first hunt. She hoped she could do it. She wasn't sure she would even know how, but she knew Andy would be there to help her. Together they could do anything. "Ok, let's do it." She said. And they left together.
