Let Shadows Die

Andy knew Hope had a lot on her mind. She had been distracted the last few days. As they were settling in their room, he asked her about it.
"Are you gonna tell me what's bothering you?"
"Nothing's bothering me. I've just been thinking about the fact that I still don't know much about what you are. I've been wanting to ask you some questions, but we haven't had much time alone."
"What is it you want to know?"
"Well, for starters, I've been curious about how much blood you need when you feed. I know you never take more than you need, but I don't know how much that is exactly."
"For me it's a little different since I'm half werewolf. Vampire usually only need a pint unless they're injured. I only need half that."

He tried to explain that being a half-breed he didn't have the weakness of a werewolf or a vampire because, being both, one side's strengths canceled out the other side's weaknesses. As a result it was harder for a hunter to kill him.This fact seemed to make her feel better. She had heard them talk about hunters before and he knew that she worried about that when he went out hunting.

Later after the show, Andy went out. He was going to ask Jinxx to keep an eye on Hope while he hunted, but she suprised him by asking if she could come with him. He had been hesitant but he finally agreed after some coaxing.

Usually he had to find his prey, but tonight his dinner came to him. As he and Hope were walking down a dark alleyway, a man stepped out of the shadows. He was obviously coming down from something. He was jittery and he had a gun. Not a good combination. Andy positioned himself between the guy and Hope.

"Give me your money." The man said in a menacing tone.
"You don't want to do this, trust me." Andy replied.

The man pulled the trigger. The bullet struck Andy in his chest. It hurt and he dropped to one knee for a moment.

"Motherfucker! I hate it when they do that." Andy said as he stood. "I gave you a chance to back off, but now I'm just pissed."
"Andy, are you alright?" Hope asked worriedly.
"I'm fine, my love." He said as he turned to her. He brought his hand up and touched her face. She relaxed and let out a sigh of relief.

"What the hell is going on?" the man asked, clearly confused.

Andy turned back around. "You've made a huge mistake, my friend." He said as he let his fangs slide down.

As usual the man tried to run but Andy was on him before he could even take a step. His fangs had already sunk in before he could even scream.
