Hide Your Heart

What Burns In You

The first thing that Mae noticed was the pounding in her head. Next, she felt an itchy feeling on her side and an arm was slung lazily over her body. She was naked and her lips felt swollen. She turned her head to see Andy sleeping soundly next to her. They were perched on a few bails of hay, a blanket laid across their bare bodies.

Did they have sex?

She couldn't remember. The last thing she could remember was Andy leading her up to an attic like area in the barn which is where they were now. They were both too drunk last night to handle themselves.

She felt Andy stir behind her and then a soft kiss was placed on her boney shoulder.

"Morning.." He whispered in her ear, groggily. She jerked away from him much to his surprise. "Mae?"

"A-Andy did we..." She looked at him with such fearful eyes that Andy was thankful for the truth.
He had a feeling she wouldn't remember what went on the night before- her body was smaller than his and he was a practiced drinker but Mae rarely partied.

"No." Andy shook his head. "No we both got really drunk and I led you up here with the intention. But I stopped myself right before we got there. I would never take advantage of you like that."

She swallowed so hard she felt like her throat was going to rip in half. Andy grabbed her hands and she took part of the blanket to cover herself.

"You have to believe me, Mae. I would not do that to you." He said, his eyes pleading her with every word.

"I believe you, I just can't believe I would do that." She buried her head in her hands and Andy reached up to brush her hair back.

"You were drunk babe." He said, taking her hands away from her eyes. "So was I."

"I'm sorry." She whispered as he pulled her back down. She was laying on his chest and could feel his dick against her leg. "I'm just not ready for that yet. I want to be sober anyways."

"I know, Mae. It's okay." He chuckled.

"Okay." She sighed. They laid there silently for a few minutes until he finally spoke up.

"You hungry?" He asked her as she looked up dreamily at him.

"Mhm." She nodded.

"Come on, let's get dressed and we'll go get something to eat." He said. They both sat up and searched for their clothes that had been strewn across the floor. It was only eight in the morning and no one else seemed to be awake yet.

Once both dressed, Mae and Andy ran down the old stairs and out to where his car was parked in the field. She grasped his hand until she hopped in his car.

Andy drove silently, his head still pounding from the hangover he was sure would last all day. He couldn't imagine what his tiny, one hundred and ten pound girlfriend was going through. He sang along to the song on the radio- Rebel Yell by Billy Idol.

She laughed as he drummed on the steering wheel. She'd heard the song before but she had never seen someone enjoy it so much. "Let's do something crazy tonight." He grinned.

"It's a Sunday." She laughed. "Plus I think last night was pretty insane."

"Nah- I mean like tattoos or something." He said. "Something crazy!"

"Tattoos?" She smirked, folding her arms across her chest.

"Yes!" He grinned. "We could get... each other's name!"

"That's intense." She chuckled. "And expensive."

"It wouldn't be that bad. Not if we get smaller ones." He shrugged.

"I don't know Andy.." She chuckled.

"Mae, come on! Let's reinvent ourselves!" He grinned, pulling her to his side.

"How!?" She laughed.

"New hair, new tattoos, new piercings! Let's do this!" He said.

"Dude, I like my style! You do too!" She giggled. "What's with you!?"

"I don't know." He shook his head, keeping his hands locked on the steering wheel. "I'm bored of this stupid ass town." He tried to conceal the real reason, the dreaded truth he'd have to share with her sooner or later.

He wouldn't have to worry about this town much longer..

"Yeah I get it." She laughed, rubbing her forehead. Andy pulled up to a tiny restaurant with old white siding that looked like it hadn't seen a paint brush in years. A sign adorned the front that read "Satterwhites". "What is this place?"

"My parents used to come here all the time with me as a kid." He chuckled, wrapping his arm around her neck.

"Oh? Is it good?" She smirked as he rolled his eyes.

"Like I would take you to some dump." He chuckled. "Don't judge a book by its cover babe."

"I'm not!" She exclaimed.

"Mhm." He grinned as they walked inside of the restaurant. They were immediately seated, the waitress recognizing Andy. The food was delicious and coffee cured both of their hangovers decently well.

They ate for an hour, laughing and joking but Andy hated the terrible reality looming over his head. He had something to tell Mae and it could either make or break their relationship.

"What!?" Mae exclaimed as Andy paced around in front of her. He was leaving? He was going to Los Angeles next weekend with or without her?

"Look Mae, most of the guys aren't coming either. Just me, Sandra, and Chris. We'll make a name for ourselves, then you come and join us. We'll have a place to stay by then, things to do." He grabbed her hands. "I don't want this to end us, I want this to make us stronger. Distance will do that, babe." Mae took one of his pillows and pulled it close to her body. A few tears fell down her cheeks as he wrapped her in his arms.

"I don't want you to leave me." She said, sniffling loudly. "I don't have any other friends but you. I'm going to be alone."

"Hey stop, you won't be alone." He said, hugging her tight to him. "I'll call you every night, we'll stay together through everything. Then on your birthday you can come out. Drop from school and come to start your music career." She sniffled up at him before shaking her head.

"Does it have to be so soon?" She whispered, feeling him brush her hair back.

"I wish I could say no but we have a few offers for labels. Baby, this is my chance." He said.

She reached up to touch his cheek before running her finger over his lips. "It's kind of why I asked you to come the other night.."

"I know. And far be it for me to get in the way of that." She smiled softly. He ducked down to rest his head on her shoulder. "We have a week."

"We do." He agreed. "Look, Mae. I've got something else to tell you."

"What's that?" She asked, her heart still felt ripped in two but she was trying to get over it.

"We've only been together for a week Mae.." He said. "But I-I think I love you."

Notes

It's all for the greater good guys... this story is set to have three-five sequels and so he had to get out of Cincinnati sometime..
