Hide Your Heart

Mae stared at Andy for a few seconds. She bit her lip as hard as she could as she conjured what to say in her head.

Love?

After only a week she was going to say love? She knew she felt it but Andy was staring at her with such intense eyes that she felt like he was just some lovesick puppy that had no idea the weight of the word.

"A-Andy.." She shook her head watching as something shattered in his eyes. "I'm scared."

"I know but Mae.." He said, "You know I'll never leave you. I've got you forever."

"People throw the word forever around like it's useless, Andy!" Mae exclaimed, standing up.

"You have to stop acting like you know what your feelings are all the time! It's cryptic! That's why we have them! Will you really love me forever? Or is forever just something you like the idea of?"

"Maybe if you'd stop being so guarded you could love!" Andy retaliated.

"Stop Andy!" She screamed. "You know why I'm like this! How would you feel if your best friend killed themselves!?"

"I'd be broken!" He stood up, walking to the window. "Because you're my best friend."

"So don't leave me.." She whispered after a few seconds of silence.

"I have too." He crouched down, putting his head in his hands. She walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist before laying her cheek against his back.

"My life is going to be Hell.." She sighed. He turned so he held her in his arms.

"No it's not Mae Lily.." He said. "Because I love you. I really do. I'm not just talking from my heart."

She reached up to brush his hair back. "I love you too." He smiled and softly pressed his lips to her's. "I just don't want to watch you leave.."

"I know." He ran his fingers through her long hair before kissing her forehead. "But I think I have something to make you feel a bit better."

"What's that?" She raised her eyebrow. He stood up and grab his old acoustic guitar.

"It's probably awful but I tried for you." He chuckled, tuning up quickly. "I wrote you an acoustic song."

Mae stood up and sat back down on his bed. "You did?"

"Yeah- like I said, it's probably terrible but I know how much you like acoustic-" Mae cut him off by planting a long kiss on his soft lips.

"Just play it." She said, biting her lip.

He giggled and began strumming a light tune that made her heart swell.

I open my lungs dear
I sing this song at funerals... no rush.
These lyrics heard a thousand times, just plush.

This pain it visits almost nightly
Missing hotel beds, I feel your touch.

Mae smiled at him as he concentrated so hard on the strings. He bumped the chords a few times, making them buzz or they didn't make a sound at all but she didn't care. He had done this for her.

I sit here and smile dear.
I smile because I think of you and I blush.
These bleeding hollow dials, this fuss.

Andy chewed on his lip as he finished the last note and looked up at Mae. She was smiling as wide as physically possibly.

"Andy! That was incredible!" She squealed, jumping into his arms. He laughed, rubbing her
back.

"Just like you."

"Ugh, stop. We're not going to be that couple." She rolled her eyes and pulled him so he was laying down. She placed a soft kiss on the skin of his neck and his eyes fluttered closed.

"Well, we might as well enjoy being that couple for the next week." He giggled. She wrapped her arms around his middle and rubbed his back.

"Yeah.." She sighed, laying her head on his shoulder. "Are you coming to school this week?"

"Probably for half." He nodded.

"Okay." She bit her lip.

"Your going to be okay, Mae Lilly." He promised, kissing her forehead.

"I hope."
