The Moment

Ashley was sitting right next to her, holding her hand lightly in his, as the tears silently streamed down his face.
There were beeps, the steady dripping from IV's all around, nurses shuffling from room to room. Conversations about all the patients on the floor fluttering around.
"Did you see what Mr. Jameson in 12550 did? He tore his central IV right out. Doctor Fielden had to drop everything to put it back in"
There would be a period of silence before another thing would be said.
"Did you see that young thing that was brought in an hour or two ago?"
"Oh yeah, poor girl, tried to commit suicide. I couldn't imagine hating my life so much I'd want to end it."
Those nurses unfortunately didn't know Ashley could hear everything they said.
"Oh the male that came in with her said that someone did that to her. You know, the guy who says that he's her boyfriend. Kind of disgusting though, he must be 6 years older than her."
Ashley's face turned to their direction and they, of course, didn't notice due to their complete devotion to gossiping.
"Tell me about it, she's 18 and hes what? 24, maybe 25? Have you looked at her wounds though? There are the major ones, but around them are loads of smaller cuts."
"And? The one who did it to her coud have done those too."
"They were already starting to heal."
That's when Ashley couldn't bear it anymore.
"In case you didn't know, I can hear everything you're saying. Yes, I am 24. Sadly for you, you haven't realised that love doesn't come with age restrictions. She didn't try to commit suicide, I know because I was there. I couldn't protect her from him, and if she did cut herself before that is her business, not yours. You know nothing about her life. I was and still am going to take her away from this place." He said angrily before returning to his place by her side.
~Meanwhile with CC and Hailey~
(Hailey's POV)
"Hailz! What's happening? Talk to me, please!"
An uncomfortable silence hung in the air as the two sat on the bathroom floor.
"Darling." I whispered.
"Yes sweetheart?"
"I couldn't..." I muttered extra softly.
"Couldn't what my angel?" CC spoke softly.
"See her like that." CC picks me up and kisses the top of my head sweetly.
"I understand baby, I know." He says as he hands me a towel to clean myself up.
I took it and wiped my face until it was almost raw.
CC says he understands, but he has no idea how little he truly understands.
~Back to Rain's room~
Ronnie's POV
I go to Ashley's side and place a hand on his shoulder, only to have him shrug it away.
"She looks so dead Ron..." Ashley whispers.
I take a seat next to Andy who's sitting still in the back of the room, silently in pain from seeing his friend like this.
"Found her." CC said as he walked in with Hailey.
Ashley dropped Rain's hand, simply glanced over, and flashed a fake smile to them.
He was happy that Hailey was found, but obviously wasn't in the mood to smile.
Soon everyone's attention went from Rain's statue-like body to Hailey.
"Oh thank god, is she okay?" Jake asked.
Before CC could speak I gave Jake an answer.
"She's fine. She saw Rain here before we were allowed in. She freaked and ran off." I answered, slightly irritated.
I turned my attention back to Rain and Ashley.
Ashley took his love's cold, pale hand and held it gently.
"Please come back to me, baby." He spoke silently into her hand as he pressed it against his lips.
Of course CC had to bring the attention back to Hailey.
"My poor baby was puking her little heart out." CC said.
Ash's head popped up and he looked coldly to CC.
I looked at Ash and show him a sympathetic look.
"Well, my baby is dying." Ashley spat out.
CC looked down at the ground, slightly ashamed of himself for not being more careful with what he says right now.
Ashley's POV
"Can you guys leave me alone with her for a few minutes?" I asked kindly.
Everyone walked out of the room, and went to the waiting area.
For a few minutes I stared at Rain's little body.
She looked so lifeless, and it tore me apart inside.
I was incapable of protecting my girl, and now she's dying because of it.
I'm the worst boyfriend in the history of mankind.
"Baby, come back. Please? I'll do anything, I'll even give up my bubblemint. Please? I need you..." I sadly said
I buried my head into her limp, nearly lifeless body and sobbed until sleep took over and pushed me into terrifying dreams.
