Chapter 3

Blu looked at herself in the mirror as she straightened her hair. Her eyes looked blue today, but they were really a grey hazel color. They looked at her, scared. Yeah she was scared, scared that this tragedy had happened to her family. She closed her eyes setting the straightener down on the counter top. She still remembered the day her mom had told her that her uncle and aunt were found dead. She was nine at that time, but she was old enough to understand what was going on. Someone had killed her aunt and uncle, yet her cousin was nowhere to be found.
Blu opened her eyes and looked at herself in the mirror. “I’ll find you bubbles.” She couldn’t help but smile as she remembered her cousin’s old nickname. She and Dennis had come up with it after watching the power puff girls. Her cousin acted just like bubbles and her blonde hair was almost the same color as bubbles’. Her parents said that she was what they thought her cousin was like. Her parents imagined she would have the same golden locks Blu had, along with the grey hazel eyes that sometimes appeared blue. But would her cousin really look like her? She shrugged at herself in the mirror as she finished straightening her hair. “That is all I have left. It shouldn’t be so easy, right? I just have to look for someone that looks like me.”
The detective had informed her months ago that her cousin was in America. But when she arrived at the house her cousin was supposed to be living at, a girl with dark skin had answered the door. The girl’s parents later informed her that the family that once lived there had moved out two months ago. Blu had tried to find out more about the family; all she had found out was that the family had moved to the United Kingdom, and that their last names started with a P. The UK was awfully big and there were endless names that started with P. At least Blu had one advantage, she lived in London. She hoped to find her cousin soon. Blu had to tell Kathie who her real parents were. She turned the straightener off and started to put makeup on. She had a photo-shoot today that would keep her mind of things. She had decided to model when she was twenty and in college. She had seen those models on TV and decided that that’s what she wanted to do. It had worked out great, because she got the job on her first try. And now, she was a professional model. She also modeled clothes at stores that sold “gothic, emo, scene” things. She loved her job, traveling the world for special photo-shoots, she even appeared in an NCSI episode.
“Blu, come down for dinner!” “Coming!” She looked at the photo of Dennis, Kathie, and her, that hung on her dresser’s mirror. That had been the last picture she had taken with Kathie. Blu had been four at that time, and it had been the last time she saw Kathie before moving to the UK. “I will find you Kathie Sterling. And I’ll take you away from those murders that killed your parents. You have to know the truth. Just wait a little longer, don’t let them bring you down.”
