Chapter 2

Kaili’s eyes flew open as her alarm clock went off. She quickly turned it off and pulled the covers over her head. “Wakey, wakey Kai-chan.” Kaili groaned as she turned her back at her roommate. “Kai-chan! We can’t be late for our first day of class, come on.” “Five more minutes.” She rolled her eyes as she felt Angela grab her ankles and started to pull her out of bed. “Okay, okay, I’m up!” She pulled the covers off and sat up yawning. Angela twirled around as she made her way to her makeup table. The table’s original purpose was for Angela’s laptop and a place where she could study, it had only served its purpose for about a week; that’s when Angela had started putting her hair brush, blow dryer, hair straightener, and the little makeup she had. So it was more of a hair dresser table than anything. Kaili looked at her bestfriend smiling, “It’s going to get frizzy.” “That’s what hair products are for.” Angela was an average girl. She had dark brown hair that went down to her ribs, dark brown eyes that sometimes appeared to be black. Her round face was like that of a babies and she acted a bit childish at times. She was shy at first, but once you got to know her, she was awesome. Her grandma was American, and had taught her the English she now knows. Kaili had liked her because she wasn’t like the girls at their school. They wanted to be in fashion, and dye their hair blonde, and well…they were pretty much stuck up bitches. Kaili had been surprised, because she thought Japanese people were different. But she soon found out that they weren’t all like that. “Hurry up Kai-chan.”
Kaili rolled her eyes as she grabbed her towel, “We still have about two hours left and the teachers always get home late on the first day of school. “Is that how they are in America?” “They were at my school. I think.” Angela looked at Kaili frowning, “You still have trouble remembering?” “Yeah.” “Have you told your parents?” “Yes, but they say it’s nothing to worry about.” She stumbled into the bathroom and took a quick shower. She let the warm water hit her ice cold skin. She wasn´t really sure why she felt so damn cold, but what she did know was that it had been happening a lot lately. Not that she really remembered much about her past. She had trouble remembering what she did yesterday. She tried to think back, she had been in Japan for about two years now? No, four, one? She winced as she felt a killer head ache start to form. She put her hands on each side of her head and tried to put pressure. This always happened when she tried to remember…well anything. She let out a soft sigh, “It’s no use trying to remember.” Her parents had said this was normal. Her memory loss had started when she was about four years old, right after a bad experience she had. The doctor said the experience had been too much for her and that was why her brain had erased those memories, although they weren’t sure why it kept happening. She wished she could at least remember her childhood. Her parents didn’t really like to talk about it. Kaili finished shower and walked out as she wrapped a towel around her.
Angela stared at her, “I thought I told you to wrap a towel around your hair so it doesn’t drip like that.” “I can’t do that; the dye will stain the towel.” “But it’s okay to stain the floor?” Angela shook her head as she motioned Kaili over, “Come here, I’ll blow dry it for you.” Kaili walked to the chair and sat down frowning, “You’re going to kill my hair.” “I’m not the one dying it ever two months.” “You gotta admit my hair looks awesome every time I dye it a different color.” “True, but it ruins it.” “Can your mom fix it?” Mrs. Misaki was a hairstylist, the best Kaili knew. “Maybe, I’ll see if you can come over this weekend.”
Once Angela had finished blow drying Kaili’s hair she started to comb it. “You’re going to make me fall asleep if you keep combing it like that.” “Sorry.” Kaili stood up and walked over to the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. “I am in love with these lenses.” “I don’t like them, your natural eye color is awesome.” “I hate it.” “I wish I had your eyes.” “If I could I would trade them with yours.” Kaili looked at her boring blue eyes, she hated them, their color, the way they looked in the mirror. She put her grey circle lenses on and smiled. “Much better.” “Come on, or we’ll be late for class.” “We still have an hour left!” “Are you not planning on eating breakfast?” Kaili shrugged as she applied some eyeliner. She then applied foundation and smiled as she put some chap stick on. “Done.” Angela grabbed her backpack then Kaili’s hand and she practically hauled her out the door.
