Chapter 12

Kaili ran out into the school’s parking lot. She gasped, in front of her was a silver 2014 porsche boxster. She whistled softly and smiled at Valentin. “Like what you see?” “It’s a very nice car. That’s one of the good things about having rich parents.” Valentin shrugged, “Yeah.” Kaili threw her backpack in the back seat and got in. “So, Mr. Sumpter where are we going?” “Burger King?” Kaili laughed as she put her seat belt on. “I like your taste in food.” “Good, cause we’re going to watch a movie afterwards.” “Deal!” Kaili watched Valentin grin like a kid as he put the car in reverse. He obviously enjoyed being in his car. She was glad he was happy, and not sad like the last time she had seen him. “When did you get here?” Valentin stopped at a red light, “Umm a week ago.” “When where you planning on telling me?” He shrugged, “I had to find a place first.” “A place? As in a place to live?” He nodded, “And why is that?” “I don’t like living in England.” His face clearly showed devastation. “Is it because of…” He nodded. After a few minutes of silence he finally spoke. “She has a boyfriend.” Kaili winced and looked away from his crushed face. The woman Valentin looked had already replaced him. But why, had that been how much Elizabeth had loved him? Kaili thought and thought. Unless…unless she was trying to forget him! Yeah that was it, Elizabeth was trying to forget Valentin by being with another guy. That was kinda low of her to do, but Kaili thought about how Elizabeth must be feeling. Would Kaili have done the same thing? Princess. That voice again….
“Princess…earth to Kaili!” Kaili blinked confused. “What?” Valentin was staring at her. “Glad to see you’re back on earth.” “Sorry, what is it?” “We’re here.” Kaili looked up and saw a big M in yellow lights. “McDonalds? I thought we were going to Burger King.” Valentin blinked confused. “Shit!” Kaili laughed, “Looks like I’m not the only one spacing out!” Valentin blushed as he turned the car on and drove out of the parking lot. “I guess we accidently passed Burger King.” “Yeah accidently…sure…” Valentin blushed and scowled. Kaili giggled and combed his hair back with her fingers. “You sure are a fun guy to be with Valentin. She knew tonight would be great.
Kaili shivered as they walked out of the movie theaters and into the cool September night. “Are you cold?” Valentin suddenly smirked, “Or maybe you’re scared?” “Are you kidding me, how are you not scared?” He shrugged, “I like scary movies.” “The conjuring is not just a scary movie. I felt like someone was watching me the whole time!” Valentin chuckled, “There was someone watching you the whole time. I can’t believe you didn’t notice it at all.” Kaili looked at him confused. “Spit it out!” “The guy behind us was watching you.” “Why didn’t you say anything to him?” “It’s not like he ever attempted to make a move on you right? I would have really gotten pissed then.” Kaili smirked, “You would have let your husband instincts out?” Valentin laughed causing them to be the center of attention. “Husband instincts? I’m pretty sure those don’t exist.” “Really? So nothing changes when you get married?” Valentin shook his head as he opened the car door for her. “I don’t think so. Some of the friends I know that have been married say nothing really changes. Yeah they still get jealous, but that’s normal, they go jealous when they were going out. It’s the same when they get married. The only real difference is that they live together, they have to do house work, and have to plan their financial needs. Yeah times can be tough, at first, but if they have good chemistry they can solve things without killing each other.”
Kaili thought for a minute as Valentin got in the passenger’s seat. “Does that mean that when we get married we’ll be able to solve all our problems, because we have good chemistry?” She looked up when Valentin didn’t answer. He was staring at her. He suddenly smiled, “Gotcha’. You’re right; I think we will be a good married couple. You’ll take care of the house work while I go work in the office and earn money for our future children.” Kaili rolled her eyes, “I want to work too!” Valentin frowned, “But why, I’ll make enough money for the both of us?” Kaili scowled. “Fine. What do you want to do anyway?” Kaili thought for a minute, she hadn’t really decided yet. And suddenly the answer appeared out of thin air and before she knew it she had yelled the answer out. “Flight attendant!” She smiled, “Yeah I want to be a flight attendant. Travel around the world, meet lots of beautiful famous places eat different food, meet lots of people.” Valentin pouted, “You’re going to do all of that without me, your husband?” Kaili giggled and shook her head. “No. When I get back I’ll tell you what the most beautiful place I visited was. And then we can plan our trip.” “I like that.” “That’s great.” Kaili suddenly busted out laughing. Valentin looked at her confused, “Are you going to tell me the joke?” Kaili shook her head, “It’s just. We’re planning everything as if we were already married.” Valentin laughed, “You’re right. We’re already acting like a married couple.”
They were quiet for a few minutes as Valentin drove Kaili to his new house. “Valentin?” “Hmm?” She let out a soft sigh. “If I have to get forced to marry anyone, I’m glad it was you. I think we’ll get along fine. Maybe we don’t love each other. But we get along great, and I think we’re starting to become best friends. Maybe we can even grow to love each other?” She shrugged, “It’s just a thought. But I feel everything will be okay. I mean if there’s no way we can help this, we might as well enjoy it right?” Valentin stopped at a red light and looked at Kaili. That’s when he realized that she was right. “I’m glad I got forced to marry you too. I can’t imagine being married to a snobby as rich girl who is going to annoy the shit out of me. Since I moved here, I’ve been thinking of what my life with you would be like. And in the end I’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter what our lives together are like. I know it’s going to be okay, because like you said, we’re becoming best friends. I really do think I can fall in love with you over time.” Kaili blushed and kissed his cheek. This was the first time she really kissed him because she wanted to, not because she had to. “Thanks Valentin.” “No problem princess. I’ll never let you down.” Those words…
