Remembering Yesterday

Zoey walked out into the school’s track field and dropped her backpack on the floor. “Zoey, please tell me you got the CD!” Zoey handed the CD to Alex, the cheerleading captain. “Here ya go.” “Thank you so much! You’re a life saver, with the game coming up, time is running short, and, ugh, thanks again for helping me. I couldn’t have done it without you.” Zoey patted Alex’s shoulder, “No worries, we’re a team aren’t we? We gotta stick together.” Alex nodded, “You’re right. Now we’ll just wait for the girls and start practice. “



“Guess who…”Zoey smiled as she felt someone’s hands covering her eyes. “Gee I don’t know…James?” Nick dropped his hands and made a face. “I can’t believe you seriously called me that. That fag’s hands are like a girls.” Zoey pushed Nick away as he tried to hug her. “Don’t call him that!” He smiled and held her close. “Come on babe, we both know he’s gay.” She pushed him again. “No, he is not gay. He likes Cassandra and they’re going on a day Friday night.” He looked at her shocked, “Wow, he must really not want anyone to know his secret.” “If you’re going to keep acting like that I think you should go.” “Are you really listening to yourself right now? You prefer that stupid emo than me?” “James is practically my brother and you know that! Nick, just go! I don’t know what’s gotten into you lately, but I think you need to calm down! Just because you’re in the basketball team, doesn’t make you ruler of the world.” “Hey, I’m the star in the basketball team. Haven’t you noticed yet, people worship me.” Zoey couldn’t help but laugh, “Are you listening to yourself right now? You’re acting like any other school jock, a stupid spoiled teenager! I thought you weren’t going to let this get to you.” Nick stared at his girlfriend and shook his head. “Please, this is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me! You should be grateful of being with me, I’m every girls dream now. I can have any girl I want.” Zoey let out a soft breath and smiled, “Great, then you should start holding auditions to see who the lucky girl is, cause you just stopped being this girls dream guy.”


Nick watched as Zoey walked across the field to meet up with the other cheerleaders. “You’re going to regret this Zo, you’re gonna be begging for me to come back soon!” He watched as she laughed and turned the stereo on to block out his voice. He walked into the gym enraged. He saw James talking to the couch and he grinned. He’d make that stupid fag pay for having Zoey choose him.


“So you and Nick are a done deal?” Zoey nodded as she closed her math book. “Yup. I wasn’t going to let him insult you like that.” James couldn’t help but blush. “Thanks Zo, but you didn’t have to do that. ‘Sides, I’m used to being called that.” He watched her stand up angrily, “If I ever hear someone say something like that to you I’ll give them a piece of my mind. You are not even close to being gay!” He couldn’t help but laugh as he remembered. “Yeah, if anyone knows that it would be you.” She laughed as she let herself fall on her bed. “Do you still remember that night?” James nodded as he spinned around on the computer chair. “Yeah that was something I’ll never forget.” Zoey nodded as she remembered when she and James were fifteen years old.
