Bullets in a Music Box

Seattle, WA [Part One]

A persistent and annoying beeping was all I could focus on as I laid in the overly comfortable bed of the hotel. My eyes opened and I turned over in the bed to face the noise. It was coming from my phone. Stupid damn alarm. I hit the snooze button and dropped my arm down the side of the bed. I closed my eyes again and felt myself falling back asleep. An arm wrapping around my waist from behind startled me awake and I pulled my arm back up and attempted to turn around.

"Good morning," I heard Andy's raspy and husky morning voice and I sighed.

"Is it really morning?" I asked.

"Technically it's afternoon," he said. I looked at the wall clock and saw it was one in the afternoon.

"You have an interview in two hours," I muttered and felt him nod.

"I know," he said and pulled me closer to him, only to have him kiss me.

"We should probably get up," I said.

"Why? Sleep sounds so great right now," he said.

"Because I need to shower and my stomach is going to eat itself if I don't get food," I said as I sat up and draped my legs over the side.

"Have fun showering," he said. I flipped him the bird and got off the bed to go take a shower.

After I finished with the shower, I pulled on my jeans, which was really hard with wet skin, considering they are skinny jeans. Once my jeans were on, I put on my bra and a black camisole. Then I started to do my make up, which I decided on the whole thing of very little make up. The door behind me opened and I saw Andy lean against the door frame.

"Can I help you?" I asked as I put on mascara.

"I never understood how girls can do that so well," he said. I turned to him and raised an eye brow.

"Didn't you used to put on make up for concerts?" I asked.

"That was different, it's not mascara," he said and I rolled my eyes.

"Are you excited for the concert tonight?" I asked.

"Of course I am. I am always excited to perform. And we get to perform your song at the end, a little send off treat," he said and wrapped his arms around me.

"Are you okay?" I asked with a chuckle.

"I had too much sleep, now I am too awake. I am going to be a child today," he smiled and kissed me quickly.

"Oh joy. Take a shower, you smell like foot," I said and walked out of the bathroom to grab my shirt from my suitcase. As I grabbed the shirt, I heard my phone vibrating. I walked over to it and answered the call.

"Hello," I said.

"Hey Aunt Sadee, is this a bad time?" I heard Charlie ask.

"Nope, I just got out of the shower," I said.

"Oh good. I just wanted to call to say hi," he said.

"Oh really? What's really going on?" I asked.

"That Tyler guy from Andy's label was at my house yesterday, and he somehow saw my songs," he said.

"Okay, and what did he do with them?" I asked. But, wait, Charlie's songs are in my notebook in my house.

"He said I have great potential to be a songwriter, and maybe even a singer," he said.

"Do you have songs that you wrote on your own? Cause the only songs I know of that are yours, are in my house. Which is locked," I said.

"No, I have some of my own," he said. Oh thank God. I sat down on the bed and brought one of my legs up.

"Good. Is he going to do anything with them?" I asked.

"He wants me to do a demo on one of them," he said.

"That is such good news Charlie! Are you prepared for this though?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" He suddenly sounded scared.

"I mean, writing songs is one thing. So is dreaming of performing them and recording them. But actually recording the song is something of itself. When I wrote The Day You Left, I imagined it recorded, but when I actually recorded it and heard myself on a record, it was surreal and kinda stressful. They will throw words and phrases at you, be prepared," I said.

"Tyler said I was just going to do a small demo, one song for now, and he will look into it," he said.

"Just prepare yourself for some stress. But I am always a quick text or phone call away, so is Andy," I said. And as if on cue, Andy walked out of the bathroom, in nothing but a towel. I bit my lip and watched him walk to the suitcases and grab some clothes before beginning to change.

"I know. Speaking of Andy, how is he?" Charlie asked.

"Apparently he got too much sleep, which I think is completely false, and now he is too awake and is going to act like a child all day," I said. Andy looked at me with a smirk as he buckled his belt.

"He acts like a child every day," Charlie laughed.

"I know. But he has a radio interview and a concert later. It's probably going to be worse," I said.

"How much worse can it get?" Charlie was basically laughing his ass off.

"Who knows? Are you done with school for the day?" I asked.

"Yeah, I don't have an eighth period," he said.

"Good, if you skip school, I will know, and I will fly my ass back to LA to yell at you," I said.

"I know. So my dad is doing better," he said.

"Oh good. Is he breathing on his own?" I asked. Andy climbed onto the bed next to me and laid his head in my lap.

"Yeah, they took him off the breathing machine, but he still has to get chemo and radiation," he said.

"Well, that's a given with Cancer. But at least he's getting a little better. Is there any word on if he's gonna come home?" I asked.

"I don't know. Lauren only tells me if he's breathing on his own, nothing else," he sounded disappointed.

"She's trying to protect you from the bad stuff, don't worry about it. I'll call Lauren later and get the full scoop and tell you," I said.

"Thanks Aunt Sadee," he said.

"You're welcome. But, Andy and I need to go get food, so I am gonna have to let you go," I said.

"Alright, I'll talk to you later. Call me after the concert," he said.

"I'll try," I told him and hung up. I looked down at Andy, who was watching me intently.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing, you just get this smile on your face when you talk to Charlie. I like it," he said. Oh jeez, Andy really is too awake, he's getting all sappy and shit.

"You need to get less sleep, you turn all sappy and shit when you get enough sleep," I said.

"I don't know if that's a bad thing," he smiled.

"It is when you are talking about my face when I talk to people. But in other news, my stomach is about to eat itself alive, let's go get food," I said and climbed off the bed, leaving Andy laying there, alone.

"But the restaurant is all the way downstairs," Andy whined.

"Are you whining? Whining is my thing. Get off your ass and let's go," I exclaimed and jumped up in the air. I swear, today is going to be a long one with this kid.
