Destiny's Kiss

Light

I never needed anyone to save me, because I never had anyone willing to save me. Everyone that I trusted left me alone when I needed them. I guess I’ve always just been too hard to handle. After getting hurt and let down so many times, I called it quits on needing anyone but myself. I’ve been used, emotionally abused, hurt, pushed, almost raped, and betrayed more times than I can count. I’ve lost every friend I’ve ever had, and been hurt by every person I’ve ever been close too. But nothing and I mean nothing feels worse than this.
This…lingering. I’m not anywhere, but yet I’m everywhere.

I’ve been lonely before, but now….I’m all alone; completely and utterly alone.

“I believe that we all fall down sometimes…Can’t you see, that we all fall down sometimes…”

The words pierced through the silence like a bullet through air, pulling me from my thoughts. Hope had come flooding back to me, and my joy could not be contained. I once again ran to where the sound was faintly coming from.

Closer…

And closer…

I was inches away now, the blinding light flashed before my blue eyes once more. I hope this is the last fucking time I ever see this light, but man am I glad to see it. Take me home baby! A moment later the white, shinning light had swallowed up everything.

My eyes snapped open in an instant. I heard a beeping sound beside me and turned my weary, stiff neck to inspect the area. My eyes finally focused, and I realized the sound was coming from a heart monitor machine. I gazed around the room, trying hard to take in my surroundings.

I was in a hospital room. The walls were a faded tan color; tacky art hung on a couple of the walls. There was a small couch a few feet away from me. A familiar body lie asleep on the small couch, his gazelle legs spilling over the arm. His raven hair was pushed out of his face and a weary frown was plastered across his mouth. He was wearing a white, v-neck t-shirt, and black skinny jeans. His combat boots were pushed up against the end of the couch, perfectly aligned with each other. He looked like he hadn’t showered in awhile, and looked extremely worn out. How long have I been in here?

I needed to assess things a bit further to get that answer. Too nervous to call a nurse in, I looked up to see if they had anything flowing into my I.V. There was no medicine or saline on drip, and the I.V machine wasn’t even attached to I.V in my forearm. Good. I must’ve been here at least a day or two. The urge to pee hit me like I just got hit by a truck. Holy shit! I gotta pee!

I quietly climbed off the bed, as to not wake a sleeping Andy. My legs felt stiff and at first they didn’t want to move. I stretched them a bit and soon enough I was slowly walking towards the door that led into the attached bathroom. I had on a hospital gown with nothing on underneath. This fucking hospital gown is so uncomfortable! Uh!

I stumbled into the small bathroom and did my business. I stood, looking at the toilet, deciding whether I should flush the toilet or not. I desperately didn’t want to wake Andy up; he looked like he needed the sleep. Well, the door is closed, so he probably won’t hear the toilet if I flush it. I slowly pushed the handle down; the toilet made a loud noise and sucked all the water down. Shit, that was loud! He’s probably awake now. I’m going to have to go out there in this stupid hospital gown—that’s going to be so fucking embarrassing.

I crept over, turning the sink faucet on just enough to wash my hands. I dried them and threw the tall in the trash can. I opened the door just a crack, enough so I could peek out and see if he was awake. Luckily, Andy was still squeezed onto the tiny couch, fast asleep. Thank gosh.

I crept out of the bathroom and towards the closed room door. I opened the door and walked out into the hallway, looking for a nurse.

“Hey! I see you’re awake. How are you feeling?” I was greeted by a smiling, blonde nurse who was sitting at the nook desk, typing away on a computer.

“Hello. I’m feeling perfectly normal, oddly enough. Uh, would you happen to know how long I’ve been in here?”
“You came in yesterday afternoon, about uh…5-ish.”
“Okay, thank you. Could I possibly have my clothes back?”
“You came in, in a really fancy dress, but your boyfriend bought you some pajamas. They are on the table in your room.” She was still beaming up at me. I guess she must enjoy her job. Good for her.

I made sure not to stir too much while taking the pajamas Andy had bought me, out of their bag. I couldn’t believe he had taken the time to go get me a set of pajamas, complete with a matching underwear set and a pair of slipper boots. How sweet of him. I thought it was so adorable that he got me all stuff that was Batman related. He even got my bra size right, weirdly enough. Then, I realized that he had told the nurse he was my boyfriend. I giggled softly at the thought.

Changed into the comfy pj’s and out of the horrible hospital gown, I climbed back onto the hospital bed and sat with my legs crossed. Andy stirred a bit, almost falling off that couch. His eyes slowly opened and he stretched, groaning a bit. He sat up at looked over at my hospital bed before jumping up when he realized I was awake.

“Hey! You’re up!” He practically sprinted over to the bed and hugged me tightly.
“Thank you so, so much for the pajamas. It was very sweet of you to get them for me.” I said in a very sweet tone.
“I’m glad you liked them…I remember you were wearing a Batman shirt the night we met, so I got you all Batman stuffed. He sounded happy, and childlike, smiling sweetly at me.
“So…what happened to me?”
“You said we needed to take you to the hospital one moment, then the next you were passed out in the back seat. We rushed you here—they pumped your stomach, and then gave you fluids through your I.V to replace what was lost. I…I was really worried about you.” He stared down at the floor, the smile gone from sight.
“I’m sorry Andy. I was really fucked up, and…I just…I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. I’ve never really been happy; it just got to the point where I couldn’t take it anymore. But, I’m still alive—so everything is fine.” I tried to reassure him.

I stood up and slid the slipper boots on my feet. He pulled me into his arms, squeezing me tightly.

“Please don’t try it again…” His voice was low and full of pain.
“I won’t.” He hugged me tighter than I’d ever felt him hug me before. He must care about me…
“Promise?”
“Pinky promise.” I stuck my pinky up and brought it up to meet his. “Can we go home now?” I pleaded with puppy eyes.
“I’ll go ask the nurse if you can be discharged. I’ll be back in a second.” He smiled down at me, his blue eyes sparkling. The tall man then strutted out of the room, leaving me to fumble around for my phone. I saw it sitting on the table where my pajamas were.

I found Ashley’s contact and clicked the call button.

“Crystal!?! You’re awake??” He sounded so excited to hear my voice again.
“Hey Ash. Yeah, I’m awake.”
“I’m on my way to the hospital now.” I heard a car door shut and the engine start.
“I’ll see you when you get here. Byyyeee.” We hung up the phone and I awaited the hug that would come with his arrival.
