Sanctuary

I woke up by myself, early in the morning, hearing Andy singing in the shower. I checked my phone and only had one message. A text from Mom last night asking if I was coming home. Then four missed Skype calls from Sara. "Ughh" I groaned and dropped the phone back on the bedside table. I closed my eyes again for a few seconds and then decided I felt gross from the previous day, so I went ahead and got up, heading to the bathroom where Andy was still singing. I looked around the sparkling bathroom and turned to the porcelain double sink. After examining myself in the mirror I saw my greasy, messy hair and some dirt from the previous day in the woods. Not attractive. I stripped and stepped in the shower with Andy, "Morning babe."
I smirked as he jumped and looked to me and sighed.
"I didn't hear you come in."

"It happens."

"How'd you sleep?"

"Like a rock. Did you sleep okay?"

"Restless. Nightmares again." I felt my face instantly grew somber and I pulled him into a close embrace, and ran my hand through his long, dark hair, ringing the water out as I went.
Since the last Birdcage operation, Andy has had vivid, awful nightmares. He dreams of gory, disturbing images and films. Things like a boy's neck being broken, a woman disemboweled, people jumping off buildings to their suicide, a child being raped with scissors. He has them when he's triggered of things about the Birdcage assignment. I pressed my lips to his for a few seconds until he pulled away, leaving me alone in the shower in the now cooling water. His nightmares weren't easy for him to talk about. I didn't push him. I finished washing myself and turned the water off and pulled back the curtain. I found my towel and wrapped it around my body and walked to the sink symmetrical to Andy's, and brushed my teeth, washed my face, and got dressed in silence. I put on a black tank top, black ripped jeans, sparkling heels, and my normal jewelry, makeup, and my two stud chrome eyebrow ring. I walked out of the bathroom to see Andy in h
