The Metalheads

To my surprise, his room was already decently furnished, and just needed its empty spaces filled. He brought me over to the queen size bed and sat down next to me.

"So tell me your story." His eyes were twinkling and they looked bluer now than I had ever seen them before.

"Ok, so a few months ago, for some reason, the government came out and chose a big group of teens to go to this camp. And I was one of them. I was kind of excited because, you know, I had never been to camp before and I thought it would be fun. My best friend Sarah got to come with me. But when we got there, we realized it wasn't the kind of camp we were expecting."

Andy sat up more, seeming more interested in my story.

"It was actually a prison camp. They treat us like slaves, beat us, made us work, and kept us in jail cells." Andy's eyes widened as I described the conditions of the camp. "No one knows why they put us in there. But I couldn't take it. I relapsed a lot, and I did everything I could to get rid of the misery." I pulled up both of my sleeves and let him examine the faded red cuts on my wrists.

I saw sadness gathering in his eyes, it was almost painful to watch.

"My friend Sarah was the same way. Except instead of releasing her pain by hurting herself, she started to hurt other people. She attacked the guards around the camp and fought off anyone who got in her way. She was literally going insane. Then one day, the guards couldn't stand her anymore, so they...umm...God, I'm sorry..."

I couldn't get the last part out. I put a hand to my forehead as the tears began to well up in my eyes. He put one of his skinny arms around my shoulder.

"What happened to her?" I struggled to keep back the tears and continue.

"They dragged her away, and locked her in a gas chamber. I never saw her again." This time, I couldn't hold back the tears. They spilled over, leaving black lines in their wake. "That's the other reason I did this. I couldn't stand being without her. And they ripped her away from me. My best friend. How could they do this?" I whispered the last part, putting my face in my hands, letting the tears go wild.

As the room grew quieter, Andy wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close to him.

"Kat, it's gonna be okay," he whispered, rocking me back and forth. "It's gonna be okay darling, no one's gonna do that to you ever again." He stroked my dark brown hair softly.

"How do you know? How do you know they can't come get me in the middle of the night?" I asked, wiping away my tears.

"Because I won't let them," he whispered.

Why was he doing this? Why was he being so sweet to me? Did he like me as much as I liked him?

"Well, thanks." I smiled, the tears had stopped I and got up from his lap, heading towards the door. He stopped me about halfway, walking slowly towards me with outstretched arms, requesting a hug.

"So if you meet me here tomorrow morning, I'll walk with you to school." I smiled at him, then hugged him like he requested.

"Stay strong darling, and I'll see you tomorrow." I blushed again, and he smirked. I smiled at him again, then left, walking out of his room. I closed the door and pressed my back against it, grinning like an idiot. My situation just might get better for once.
