The Metalheads

A New Boy in Town

"Ugh, they always leave debris everywhere when they come through here," I said, irritated from that school day. I was walking home from the only high school in Metal county. The county I lived in was called "Metal" because that's the stereotypical music genre that its citizens listen to.

We are separated from the rest of the world by means of our society and our head government. They shut us out, and force us to live in separation. They have burned our homes, killed our people, and destroyed everything we had. We have to live in a special area and go to special schools. So why do they hate us so much? No one really knows. It's been this way for years.

From time to time, cops from the outside world will come patrolling through here, making sure people are following the few rules we were given. No communicating with people from the outside world, and absolutely no crossing the border at all. Sounds like a nice place to live right?

I turned on my street to find a truck with cops helping a new family move into their new home. Out came two people that looked about my parents' age, and a boy that looked about the same age as me.

As I got closer to my house, I saw that the boy had the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen. He was about half a foot taller than me. He had long silky black hair. He was wearing a ripped Motley Crue t-shirt , black skinny jeans, and black Vans. I noticed that his shirt looked exactly like the one I had.

"How is he wearing just a t-shirt? Its freezing outside!" I said to myself, pulling my jacket on tighter. Despite the chilling wind that was picking up, I still wanted to meet my new neighbors. I walked over to the parents at the back of the truck.

"Hey, you guys need help unloading?" I started to grab a couple of boxes out of the back of the truck. The mom spoke first.

"Oh hello. You nust must be our new neighbor. Yes, we would greatly appreciate it, since those men in the truck aren't going to help." She cocked her head in the direction of the police officers, and took her boxes inside. I laughed and carried my boxes inside. On the way in, I accidently ran into the boy I saw getting out of the truck.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to do that," I said as the boxes tilted a little in my arms.

"Woah, slow down. It's ok, I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going. Here, you can set those over there." He pointed to an empty spot on the living room floor. I set them down where he wanted, and then stepped back outside to grab more. He appeared around the corner and put his arm out to stop me.

"So what's your name darling?" I blushed when he said darling.

"My name's Katherine, but you can call me Kat. I live right across the street, and I just came over here to welcome you guys to the neighborhood." He smiled. "Well my name's Andy." He motioned me to follow him outside to get more boxes.

"So how long have you lived here?" I grabbed a couple more boxes and started towards his house again.

"Umm, as long as I can remember. I was really small when we were forced to live here." I set the boxes down, and pushed up my sleeves a little. Then I remembered I had scars, and I quickly pushed them back down, hoping he didn't see them.

"What's wrong darling?" He must've seen me.

"Nothing, I'm fine." He raised his eyebrow, then grabbed one of my arms.

"What are you doing?" I asked. He said nothing as he pushed up my sleeve, revealing my old scars.

"I knew it." He brushed his fingers over one of the biggest ones. It still stung at the slightest touch, even though it was 3 months old. "Why do you have these?" He looked deeply into my eyes, like he was desperate for answers.

I sighed. "It's a long story." I didn't really want to recall everything that happened to me at the prison camp.

"Well come up to my room and you can tell me." He stretched out his hand for me to take hold of it. I hesitated, but his smile melted away all the doubt I had about him, which wasn't very much. I took his hand and he led me upstairs to his new room.
