The Fallen Angel

Chapter 3
When I wake up mum is lying on the end of my bed crying quietly. “Mum,” I try to say but my voice cracks. She glances up her face looking tear stained with mascara running down her face. “Julie I’m so sorry, we are leaving for good now I promise,” she sobbed. I sit up and hug her. She is way too skinny for a 33 year old. “Mum, what are you talking about?” I said hopefully. “Were leaving, were going to your aunties place for a while,” she said.
OMG, she had just said what she had just said. “Were leaving! For real?” I cheered. Mum nodded smiling and I could have hugged her again. That was the smile I had missed so badly. “I bet C.C will have missed you,” laughed mum. C.C, I had forgotten all about him. We had played together when we had been little, C.C, Jen and me. I wondered how old C.C was now. Did he even remember me?
“Come on we have to pack before Gavin gets up,” mum says and leaves the room. I glance around my room. The room that I had spent so many days and nights in, the room that I had cried in, slept in, played in. It was kind of sad to leave it because this had been the only place I had felt safe in for many years. What could I pack? Clothes for starters, I searched my closet and pulled out some of my favourite clothes. My dad’s leather jacket, the scarf my grandmother had knitted for me when I was nine and even my mum’s old top. I wish I could have taken everything.
I hear mum talking down stairs and Gavin shouting. “You can’t leave this house! Remember you said…” Mum cut him off. “I’m not so sure anymore, Juliet! Are you ready yet!?” she calls. I grab my suitcase and run down stairs. Gavin is glaring at me with his venomous eyes. “What about The Assassins?” asks Gavin stopping mum in her tracks. “Mum?” I ask not sure of myself. For a second I think she is going to change her mind and run back into Gavin’s arms but then she does something definitely unexpected.
She spins around and pulls something shiny out of her bag. A gun! “Shit!”I shout ducking out of range from the fire arm. “Juliet, get in the car please,” she says in a voice I don’t recognise, almost powerful and in control like she actually is the mother for once. “Mum? What are you doing?” I ask because it’s not every day your small fragile mum pulls a gun from her hand bag and acts like the friggen terminator. “I’ll explain in the car, now run,” she demanded. There isn’t much you can say to a person with a gun so I hoist my suitcase onto my back and run out to the car. Mum definitely has a lot to explain.
As I’m shoving the bags into the boot I hear a loud scuffle and crashes with a following BANG! I scream a little and freak out. Did my mum seriously just kill someone? Mum runs out of the house. She has a bleeding gash on her forehead. “Juliet! Get in the car!” she shouts and leaps into the driving seat. I decide to follow her instructions since she is my mum and she wouldn’t hurt me. At least I hope. We speed off down the street and my mum is swearing like she has never before.
“Mum what is going on?” I demand. “Juliet, I am about to tell you something but you must swear on your life that you will never tell another soul,” mum says still using that unfamiliar voice. “I promise mum.”

Isnt much you can say to a person with a gun acting like the friggen terminator,
