The Fallen Angel

Mrs Simms POV
"I promise mum," Juliet said and I could tell she was sincere. She was just like her dad the way her eyes widened when she was telling the truth. Tears were streaming down her cheeks even though I don’t think she was aware of it. "It's about your dad," I say. I have been practising how to tell her this ever since he died and it felt like I was giving a speech. Mothers weren't supposed to feel like this when talking to their daughters.

"where do I start?" I ask. Juliet frowns in thought. "How about… How the fuck did you get a gun!? Let alone know how to use one," Juliet demanded. I could see her calm beginning to crack but she pushed it away and leaned back in her seat. I sped around the corner. I could hear people screaming and crying in horror and the sounds of police sirens. Shit! We needed to get out of the city quickly. "I'm part of a… a… a gang," I stuttered and Juliet laughed without humour. "So you’re a criminal? My little princess mum?" Juliet said still smiling, but I knew she wasn't happy. "Juliet," I sighed "after all you've seen today you don’t believe me?" Juliet considered this before giving in with a sigh.

"Okay start from the beginning," prompted Juliet. I nodded, it hurt me to think about the past but I knew it was necessary. "It all began when I was a girl. My mother and father both worked for a large gang of skilled criminals called the 'Assassins.' Ever since I was a child I was brought up to serve them. When it came to my first mission I was ready to go. I got a job for the CIA who were tracking the Assassins and that’s when I met your father. Your father was smart and he worked out were the Assassins were hiding out… He also worked out that I worked for them, but he said he wouldn't notify everyone on condition that I didn't notify the Assassins that they had found there hide out."

I paused glancing over at Juliet who was staring blankly out at the freeway. Police were catching on but I sped down a rocky country road that would be hard to track with all the trees everywhere. "What happened after that? When was I born? Why did you marry Gavin? Is he dead?" Juliet shot all those questions at me. "Um… well, your dad decided that he wanted to learn more about the Assassins motivations before he attacked. And then he found something that would change the world and either make an unstoppable weapon or save lives. He was killed before he could tell anyone what it was but he was able to leave a clue. One he knew only you could solve."

"wait… what?" Juliet asked stunned. "Were here," I stated as we pulled up in the bushes. The police weren't far behind so we had to move fast. Juliet knew this even without me telling her this and leaped out of the car pulling her bag with her. I grabbed her elbow and we ran into the trees leaving the police behind. "Mum, were are we going?" Juliet asks stumbling beside me. I didn’t answer.
