Sink Your Teeth Into Forever

Chapter 55

Ashley's POV
I saw the flash of the metal and the shot rung in my ears. I looked at Andy and my heart sunk into my gut as I watched his face turn from the smug smirk we all knew, to one of shock. He looked down at himself and my eyes followed his. I could see red on the front of his chest. The red was cut by a splash of silver, a fallen tear. Andy unconsciously gripped at the side of the helicopter in an attempt to remain standing, but the effort was fruitless. He collapsed into the sand as rain poured, his blue eyes stared up into the sky. Without thinking I turned to Braikens, within half a second he was pinned to the floor of the helicopter. I sunk my fingernails into the flesh of his neck and ripped his throat out. I was covered in blood in an instant, I don't know how long Braikens laid there, dying. Probably not very long, I didn't care though. All that mattered was that my best friend was laying, dying in the rain and I had only a few seconds to try to save him.
I turned back to Andy. I looked to his face, tears cut through the war paint on both our faces. I could see the life fading from his eyes. His pupils dilated and stilled. I ripped the front of his shirt open, the wound was still pouring blood. At least that meant his heart was still beating. I screamed his name, over and over again, giving him something to focus on, anything to keep him conscious. I looked up at his face again, his eyes were closed and his lips were turning white. I was about to seal up the hole in his chest when I realized that the bullet was still in him. I couldn't shut it in there, if I healed it and he survived he couldn't go around with a chunk of metal in his chest.
"Jinxx!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, looking around desperately for him. As I looked I noticed that the fighting around us had stopped. We had won. I screamed for Jinxx again. He came running to me in human form.
"Oh my god, what happened?" Jinxx exclaimed as he knelt next to Andy.
"Braikens shot him!" I yelled back, panic gripping me, "You have to get the bullet out of his chest,"
Jinxx's fingers found the pulse point under Andy's jaw. The next few seconds felt like years. Jinxx's face settled in concentration and he closed his eyes. The blood roared in my ears and I couldn't think. Then Jinxx moved, he was feeling for Andy's pulse at his wrist, I thought for a moment that my own heart stopped. The rest of the band and Ivy's dad came running over. As soon as CC saw all of the blood he turned and started throwing up in the sand.
"His heart is beating. Barely, but it's beating," Jinxx announced. His hand hovered over the wound and with a thwap a bloody chunk of metal slapped into his palm. My hand replaced Jinxx's and I began the process of healing him, but my concentration was cut off by a scream. The front doors of the island's office doors had opened, hearing the cease fire the people underground had assumed that it was safe to come out. The scream came from Juliet. She had a perfect view of the love her life laying essentially dead, covered in blood in the sand, she came running across the sand, and dropped down right next to me. She clearly thought that he was already dead. She was shaking his body and screaming his name, just like I had been. I couldn't get to him to heal him. Jake pulled her off of Andy, so I could do what I needed to do. She fought him kicking, clawing and screaming as he desperately tried to explain to her that Andy wasn't dead yet, and that I was trying to help him. She must have been too distraught to listen to him so she fought against him as hard as she could, obviously there was no escape for her with Jake's strength. After a few moments she wore herself out, and collapsed sobbing into his arms, leaving Jake with only minor scratches and bruises. He twas soothing her gently. While this was going on I had focused again on Andy.
My trembling hand was a few inches above the still bleeding wound in his chest. I forced my panicked brain to focus and calm down, it felt like slower than usual that the gold mist curled from my fingertips and made it's way down into the wound to heal from the deepest point. It was a hard wound to heal. I could feel my energy draining as the correct muscles and organs were laced back up into the proper order. It was harder to heal then a broken bone or a flesh wound. finally the mist curled back into my fingers and all that I could see left on Andy's chest was a red scar. I fell back onto my knees and looked to Jinxx, who again felt for Andy's pulse. I saw relief cross his face.
"He's okay, he's lost a lot of blood and will probably sleep for a while, but he's okay," Jinxx reported. I slumped into the sand and sobbed. Whether it was relief, exhaustion, or stress I couldn't tell. I just cried, and they let me. I was vaguely aware of someone lifting up Andy and taking him away. After a while I felt Ivy come over, she didn't say anything, just ran her fingers through my hair. Things were going on around me but I didn't care what, people talking, things being moved. The rain still poured and I cried with it.
