Sink Your Teeth Into Forever

Chapter 13

Sandra's POV
"What?" I said laughing a little, "You mean like ghosts and aliens and that stuff?"
"Yes," She said, I searched her face waiting for her to break and tell me she was just joking. Her face remained serious. My laughter died.
"You're not kidding are you?" I said, still not quite believing her.
"No I'm not kidding. We attempt to disprove what people say is paranormal, when we can't disprove it, we try and learn more about it. It's fascinating really," She said. I had to believe her at that point.
"Okay, so then what does that have to do with BVB. I mean I know they have a scary image an all, but I'm pretty sure that they're human," I said, but my mind drifted back to the massive animals that I saw. Could it be? No, it couldn't be that was ridiculous.
"We suspect there could be something strange about them. We were tracking unusual animal killings. When we searched all of the places that they'd happened, they followed the Black Veil Brides tour schedule almost exactly," She explained. My breath caught in my throat, I tried not to show that I was putting puzzle pieces together in my head. The tall white animal with striking blue eyes. The way the smaller of them had picked me up gently, and taken me back to my tour bus. The fact that there were five of them. They seemed so intelligent. I tried to make my face look like I had no idea what she was talking about.
"I know that you've been friends with them for a while. When you were in the band did you notice anything strange?" She asked.
"No," I said, I felt bad lying. I knew that they could be treating much worse than they were. I had noticed a few strange things. Like how they stayed skinny no matter how much they ate. I had always chalked it up to the fact that they were tall boys. I also thought about how sometimes I would wake up at night and the bus would be empty, even though they'd all been back on the bus when I went to sleep. I never thought up an explanation for that one, but I brushed it off.
"You left the band rather abruptly. Why was that?" She questioned further.
"They just didn't fit me right musically," I said, being completely honest with her this time. She kept asking me more questions about them. How my relationship was with each of them. How my relationship is now with all of them. I avoided answering questions in any way that could hurt any of them. Monsters or not, they were still my friends.
By the time we were done I was emotionally exhausted from keeping my guard up the whole time. Finally she let me go back to the place where I was staying. Jerome walked me back, we didn't talk, but the silence was not uncomfortable. He must have understood how I was feeling. As I entered back into the house it didn't feel fun like it had earlier, it felt cold and empty. I hoped that I wouldn't be there long.
Ivy's POV
When I got home from school my dad was nearly jumping up and down with excitement.
"Oh you just have to see this," He said pulling me towards the basement door. I figured that this was another foot print or something. We walked down the stairs and he flicked the light. I cast a faint glow through most of the basement. I saw the cage, it's always there, but usually it's empty. The light didn't make it all the way to the back of the cage. I froze suddenly as a low snarl reverberated from somewhere in the shadows. I noticed a thick wire heading from the shadows to where my dad was standing. He picked up the wire and pulled on it. The snarling continued.
"Well you just never learn do you," He tutted, addressing whatever was in the cage. He dropped the wire and flipped a large switch on the wall. I heard I hum and saw a few bright flashes skip down the wire. Then the snarl turned into sharp yips of pain, and the humming turned into more of an occasional zap. My dad flipped the switch again, all noise ceased from the animal. Dad tugged the wire again, and I heard the whump of massive footsteps on the concrete floor. As the creature came into the light I was stunned by his size, and beauty. A huge dark brown wolf with cream colored markings down his chest. My eyes moved up to his throat were the markings started, almost like a stitch down onto his chest. I noticed a break in his fur where a large metal collar was tightly around his neck. I could barely make out what appeared to be sharp spikes digging into his flesh. I couldn't bare to look at that, so I looked at his face. I instantly wished I hadn't. He was staring straight at me, unmoving. His big dark eyes locked onto mine and refused to let me go. He looked so intelligent, like he was desperately trying to tell me something. At the same time he looked scared, like he knew the gravity of his situation.
"Dad, you have to let him go," I said, not looking away.
"Why would I do that sweetie? I saw a government add, they're looking for any evidence for unknown creatures. I called, they're coming to get him tomorrow. They're paying such big money, we'll never have to worry again! Tonight though, it's your job to feed him," My dad rambled.
"What?" I said shocked that he would make me go near that thing.
"It's simple sweetheart, I'm just going to give you a bucket of meat, and you just throw it through the bars. He won't hurt you," My dad said, as if it was that simple. I tore myself away from the poor creature and hurried back up the stairs.
The whole rest of the day all I could think about was the poor creature trapped in that cold dark basement. I dreaded the moment when my dad would give me the food to bring him. So when after dinner he handed me a large bucket full of cooked slabs of steak, I stood at the door to the basement for a long time dreading. Not wanting to see those sad eyes again. Those eyes that were so familiar. So I resorted to look at nothing but the ground. As I went down the stairs and turned on the light I could hear him breathing. I had to get a lot closer to the cage then I wanted to to get the food in. When I got within arms reach of him, I heard him shuffle back slightly. I dropped slab after slab of the meat into his cage, feeling him so close the whole time. After what seemed like hours, I was done. I turned and was about to walk away when I heard a slight whooshing sound. I froze.
Suddenly a tattooed arm wrapped around my middle and pulled me back against the bars. I tried to scream but a leather gloved hand clamped over my mouth. Not hard enough to hurt me, but I could tell that he was strong enough to do some damage if he wanted to.
"Don't make a sound," A familiar voice hissed right next to my ear.
