An Unexpected Love

The sun was hot, the pavement was even hotter against the bottom of her leather ankle boots and as Avery paced back and forth on the sidewalk she couldn’t keep the sigh from escaping her lips. Where was she? Brittany was supposed to be here over thirty minutes ago and Avery was getting frantic. She was double parked and Wednesday, the small pug running around her feet, would need to be taken inside soon before the small pup over heated. Avery really didn’t know much of what was going on-Brit had been doing an interview with Black Veil Brides which Avery was supposed to be there for but she couldn’t make it in time…dammit. Avery was a fan, not as huge as Brit but she rocked a BVB tee every once and a while.

She smirked as she looked down at her clothes-wrinkled from sleeping in them-and she knew she should have changed. Brit had tweeted a picture of herself and CC, which made Avery nervous because if there was one guy in the entire band that she got weak knees for…it was CC. Ohwell, her loose white tank top with the screened old fashioned pistols and her black skinny jeans would have to do for now…not like she was trying to impress anyone or anything.

God it was hot! Quickly Avery took off her leather jacket and tossed it on top of her purse, which was sitting on the steps to the entrance of one of the best condo complex’s in West LA.

Why was she meeting Brit here with her things? Had she somehow been able to come up with a place to stay while on the road? Avery had offered Brittany her place-she had a spare bedroom that was filled with audio equipment, but the bed was comfy and the rent was low. Apparently Brit had found another solution and had asked, very nicely, if Avery would bring her things to this address. The girls had known one another for years-since college-and they would go to the end of the world for one another. They were like night and day though-Brittany was very bubbly and happy, even though she had her demons that she was currently fighting, but Avery still loved her.

Avery, on the other hand, was the complete opposite of her best friend and she was the first to admit it. Cynical and bitter-overly sarcastic and witty. That was Avery in a nutshell-you either got her or you didn’t and she didn’t care either way. The blonde with the light hazel eyes and curvy figure had been through enough shit in her life and she liked being who she was. Struggling for years to come to grips with being an outcast, Avery had finally just given up on fitting in and became who she was. She liked herself and sometimes she wished she could take her self love and inject it into Brit…the girl needed it.

The blonde looked down, her faded blue tips catching her eye and she knew it was probably time to redo her hair. At twenty-eight, Avery had not conformed to what it meant to be an adult. She drank…a lot, she played video games like a thirteen year old boy and she loved sitting around in her underwear, watching television or movies. Most women her age were married, had kids or careers that their parents were proud of-not Avery Williams. She was pure adolescent boy in a curvy, sexy body that most men had a hard time looking away from-but she wasn’t about that. Avery had dated plenty of guys…musicians mostly and every single one of them had left a bad taste in her mouth.


“Dude! Fucking finally!” Avery said out loud and Wednesday, who had taken a seat on the pavement, growled in response to her mother’s outburst.


Off in the distance a huge bus was approaching and Avery just stood there, wide hazel eyes filled with shock as the bus pulled up to the curb and parked with a sudden stop. Should she knock? Avery gripped Wednesday’s leash tightly as the door swung open and she could hear loud laughter coming from within. Suddenly a blonde girl was running down the steps, quickly followed by two guys with straight black hair and Avery felt her heart stop as one of the guys-lanky and tall-looked up and their eyes connected. Chiseled chin and cheekbones, deep chocolate brown eyes and that smile…she could feel her knees buckling already.

“Avery!” Brittany shouted, all smiles as she tossed her arms around the still stunned girl’s shoulders and the two guys-now identified as Ashley Purdy and CC from BVB-only stood by and watched.

“I see you made it in one piece. I was worried about you being with wild band guys and all.” Avery laughed as she squeezed the girl in her arms and then Brittany was off of her and standing beside Ashley. Wait-they were holding hands…why were they holding hands?

“Hey! Not wild…just slightly intent on having a good time.” CC said and Avery only smirked. Keep it cool Avery girl…just play it cool. She smiled at him, her hazel eyes glinting in the sun and CC felt mesmerized by this girl.

“Whatever you say Coma…” Avery laughed and Wednesday chose that moment to let out a shrill bark. CC’s eyes got huge and Avery had to hold in the ‘aww’ that was in her chest as she watched the drummer kneel down and scratch her beloved pug behind the ears.

“Ah…another fan.” Ashley said and Avery only cocked an eyebrow as she looked up from the drummer at her feet and off towards the bassist who was still clutching her best friend’s hand. Avery was a fan of the band yes-of Ashley Purdy…not so much.

“You could say that. So Brit…I have your stuff in my car. Well, as much as I could cram in there for now. Darren said you could keep your furniture in his garage until you figure shit out.” Avery said, running a tattooed hand through her straight blonde hair and she suddenly noticed that CC was back on his feet and staring at her.

“Sweet! Well Ashley was going to let me stay with him…so it’s all settled!” Brittany smiled at her and Avery had to hold everything in as she looked at the two cute couple.

This was way too good to be true, but whatever…


Brittany, while Avery loved her to pieces, had some shit in her life that she needed to figure out and Avery didn’t know if Ashley Purdy was the guy for the job. Brittany was a wounded bird and she needed someone to take care of her and be there for her when shit went down. Looking at the bassist, taking in his t-shirt clad chest that was puffed out defensively and his tattooed arms that were wrapped around Brittany a little too tightly…Avery wasn’t so sure about him. He was a typical band guy-fucking girls left and right without much notice of their thoughts and feelings. Avery’s only question was what did Purdy see in Brittany that would make things different?


“Oh-okay. Here are my keys-just let me know when you’re done…” Avery said, tossing the keys to her precious 54’ Impala to Brittany, who caught them with one hand and giggled as she and Ashley walked off towards where Avery had parked.

“So…you like pugs?” CC asked, his voice holding a tone of shyness and Avery was thrown off. He seemed so confident…so sure of himself that she never would have imagined that Christian Coma could be shy.

“No…this is a loaner while my pitbull is in the shop…” Avery said without thinking and she groaned internally. There went her smart mouth again-way to get your crush to like you there Avery…good fucking job.

“Haha…well she’s a beautiful loaner…” CC said as he kneeled down to pet the dog again before standing up and running a hand through his hair. He looked tired and he probably wanted to get inside and relax. Avery smiled and then suddenly she realized that this was only two fifths of Black Veil Brides.

“So, uh…where is everyone else?” Avery asked, looking around and CC only smiled. He liked this girl-she wasn’t in to bullshit and she had a sense of humor that he could appreciate. Plus her tattoos were fucking sweet and she was not bad on the eyes.

“Oh we dropped off Jinxx at his apartment, Andy at his house and Jake at his place. Ash and I own condos in the same building so we’re always the last to be dropped off.” He explained and CC noticed that Avery had a rad Mario tattoo on her left arm and suddenly he got an idea. He needed to get to know this girl-she seemed pretty chill-and now he knew the best way to do that.

“Eyes up here buddy…” Avery joked, placing a hand against his shoulder and shoving lightly. CC only smirked, running a hand through his hair as he trained his brown eyes on to her hazel ones.

“N-no…I was just looking at your Mario tattoo. I take it you like video games…” He said and he noticed that Avery’s face lit up at the mention of video games. Brittany had told him that her best friend was a video technician and loved anything and everything to do with video games and movies. His kind of girl…

“Fucking love them. Most guys hate playing with me though because…well…I’m kind of a beast when it comes to playing video games…” She was blushing now and CC found it to be the cutest thing. She got all red right across the bridge of her nose and he wanted to reach out and touch her.

“I don’t know about that…” He smirked and Avery only cocked an eyebrow and crossed her arms.

“You wanna bet?” She asked and CC only smirked as he grabbed her by the hand and began to lead her inside.

“Yeah…yeah I wanna bet…”
