An Unexpected Love

The sun was shining brightly, which was making Avery blink but that wasn’t the only reason she was blinking so much. The huge black bus that sat before them was currently being loaded, bags, instruments, gaming systems and all sorts of random things were being carried on to the vehicle and Avery couldn’t help but sigh as she looked around. It was a week after Thanksgiving and time for the band to get back on the road for a two month long tour around the US. It was to promote their album of course, but Avery couldn’t help but wish that they didn’t have to leave. She sighed, crossing her tattooed arms over her chest as Avery spotted Brittany and Ashley leaning up against the bus.

Her best friend was crying softly, her blonde hair spread across Ashley’s chest as he held her closely and whispered in to her ear. Britt had never been in this situation before-she had never dated a guy who would leave you for months at a time before and so the small girl was taking it hard. Avery, on the other hand, was cool as a cucumber, but she couldn’t deny that she was going to miss CC. They had gotten very close over the past few months and Avery practically spent every night with him in his condo. She refused to move in though, no matter how many times CC asked and begged-she couldn’t do that yet. The fan fallout hadn’t been too bad for Avery, but they were being pretty vicious with Brittany-Purdy Girls could be mean.

Avery looked down at her boots, Wednesday was sitting at her feet panting in the heat from the sun, and she couldn’t help but sniffle a little bit. She would never admit it-but Avery was really going to miss being around CC. They just had so much fun together-they stayed up late and played video games until the sun began to pop over the Hollywood Hills and then they would retire to his huge bed and get lost together in the sheets. They got lost in one another-they were rarely apart, but it wasn’t in a dependent kind of way, they really just liked being around one another.

Avery saw CC as not just a boyfriend, but as a best friend, someone she could confide in and trust. That could be dangerous in the end when this whole thing blew up in her face, but for now she was having a good time.


“You’re thinking so hard I can see steam coming out from your ears over there babe.” Someone said from her right and Avery snapped her head up and smiled. CC, in a pair of skinny jeans, a t-shirt and his ever present knit cap, was standing beside her looking slightly sullen.

“That’s just my hot personality. You guys ready to roll out?” She asked as she turned to face her boyfriend and let him embrace her. It was comforting being in his arms, those strong arms that held her every night while they slept and oh shit here come the tears…

“Yeah. Yeah I think we’re almost ready-we’re just waiting on Andy to end his argument with Juliet and then it’s time to go. You sure you don’t want to change your mind?” He smirked down at her, but soon enough his smirk had faded. He had never, ever, seen Avery cry and now here she was, her blonde hair hanging over one hazel eye and her other eyes were brimming with tears.

“I wish I could go with you, but it’s just not possible…” Avery said sadly and soon enough she found her head resting against his chest and his calloused fingers were rubbing her temples.

“It’s not going to be the same without you Avery…I’m not going to be the same…” CC said in to her hair and Avery only smiled as she kissed his chest and then pulled away from him slightly.

“I-I know, but I can’t just leave Britt behind…not now since we’re so close to getting our web series together. We have interviews lined up and everything.” Avery said as she looked up at him and smiled. Avery and Brittany, both tired of not getting paid and needing to pay their own dues to the world, had decided that they were going to team up and start interviewing bands themselves.

“I know and I’m so proud of you girls. Who are you interviewing first?” He asked and Avery only sighed-he was trying to change the subject to make her feel better but this subject wasn’t going to do it.


They had managed to secure two interviews with two very big bands-both bands holding members who Avery knew personally and she had been the one to call in the favor. Band Guy from two years ago had pretty much made her eat crow when she had called-making her feel terrible about herself and her past, but they needed a big first interview to get things started off. The other band, a bunch of rowdy Brits with a love of alcohol, had agreed because they loved Avery, having met her at a show in LA and her and the wild singer had had a fling that lasted 2.5 seconds. They were due to conduct the interviews in a week since both bands were touring in the area and Avery was dreading every second of it.


“Um, All Time Low and then your buddies in Asking Alexandria…I’m not really looking forward to that first interview though…” She laughed nervously and CC only smiled as he placed his hands on her cheeks and lifted Avery’s face towards his own. Their lips met briefly until he pulled away to look at her.

“You are beautiful and he’s a douchecanoe for doing that shit to you. Just dress as hot and sexy as I know you can and make him regret ever being a jackass to you…” CC smirked at her and Avery only smiled and nodded. That’s what she loved about CC-he was all for her getting some revenge on an ex…even if it meant showing off some of the goods that only he got to see normally.

“You are ridiculous…I think it’s time for you to go C.” Avery said as she nodded her head towards the bus where Jinxx and Jake were currently waiting for them impatiently. Andy was obviously already on there, probably still on the phone trying not to argue with his own girlfriend. Avery only nodded her head and the couple began to slowly walk towards the vehicle.

“Do I have to?” He asked as they got close to his bandmates and Avery noticed that Jake only smirked and reached out a hand to grab CC by the collar. Avery laughed, reaching up to kiss his neck and then his lips as CC tried to hold on to her tightly.

“I’ll call you later babe!” He said as he kissed her one last time and then CC disappeared on to the bus. Avery only laughed as she noticed Jinxx was moving slowly towards Ashley, who still had Brittany clinging to him.


Avery watched with sadness in her heart as Ashley finally grabbed for Brittany’s hand and pushed her away gently. She could see his pain and Avery knew that it was killing Ash to leave her best friend, but that was his job. Britt cried even harder when he kissed her one last time, standing on the steps of the bus while she stood just outside and silently Avery moved towards them. She quickly wrapped an arm around Brittany’s shoulders, pulling her close as the two girls stood in the grass right outside CC and Ash’s condo building, which was where the band always met up to leave for tour. The bus revved it’s engine and finally it began to pull away from them.

Avery held Brittany in place, she could tell that her best friend was tempted to run after it, screaming for them to come back. It was sad watching someone hurt so much, but Avery had warned Britt that this was going to happen. That’s just the way life was when you got involved with musicians and sometimes you had to find a new focus in life so you didn’t waste away from the sorrow. The two girls held one another and while Avery hadn’t cried in front of CC-she was sobbing now. Brittany was clinging to her, holding tightly to her t-shirt as the bus finally disappeared around the corner and they just remained in place. Things were going to be so different now and as Avery led Brittany over towards her car, Wednesday following them silently, she knew at least they had one another.


“Come on Britt. Cheer up-we’ll stop by Pinkberry on the way home…” Avery smiled as she pulled out into traffic and both girls looked around quickly to see if they could spot the bus. The guys were gone-on the highway towards Washington state and both girls wanted to get home quickly so they could Skype with their guys.

“I don’t want Pinkberry…I want Ashy…” Her voice was low and sad and Avery only rolled her eyes as she stopped at a light and looked towards her best friend. The girl’s eyes were puffy, bloodshot and her nose was running-Brittany looked a mess right now.

“You can’t have him…he’ll come back Britt…he loves you…” Avery was trying to be comforting, but she knew Britt wasn’t buying it.

“What if he cheats on me?! I-I don’t think I could survive it if he left me Avery…he’s everything to me right now…” She was crying again and Avery only sighed, running a hand through her straight blonde hair as she looked her best friend in the eyes and then smirked.

“I’ll kill him. Come on…we’re going home to get ready for this interview that you’re so looking forward to and I’m dreading…” They both smiled and even though they had both lost two people who they cared for, the girls knew that they had one another.
