An Unexpected Love

Sixteen-Avery

“That was nice…” CC said as he pulled away, his fingers dragging down the side of her cheeks. Avery had opened her eyes and noticed that CC’s were still closed and she smiled. Now would be the time to punch him-but something in her just didn’t want to.

“Yeah…CC?”Avery said, her voice sweet like candy and soon enough the drummer had opened his eyes and was staring at her. There was so much emotion in those brown eyes of his that it was kind of freaking her out-oh yeah, and the fact that they were thousands of fucking feet in the air.

“Yes?” He said gently, his hands having stopped on her shoulder and he was rubbing the pads of his thumbs across her sweater clad skin. Avery only smiled, but soon enough the smile turned in to a smirk and she looked around.

“Get me the fuck off of this thing!” Avery laughed loudly and CC’s grin only grew as he waved a hand to the guy at the bottom.

Soon enough they began to move, their bucket swaying slightly but that was okay by CC because Avery was all but in his lap at this point. She had her arms around his neck, one of her legs was laying on top of his and she was so close to him that he could feel her heart thumping in her chest. The sad thing was he didn’t want this night to end…not yet…not like this. After the ride came to a halt and CC watched as Avery moved the fastest he had ever seen her-they were both now on solid ground and wondering what to do next. Avery was standing in front of him, her arms crossed over her chest and she was looking anywhere but at him. Maybe he shouldn’t have kissed her…maybe she wasn’t ready for that yet.

Brittany had warned him that he would have to take it slow with Avery-she was incredibly cynical when it came to love and anything involved with being in love. CC didn’t love this girl-well maybe a little-but he just felt like he needed to be around her. He had been lonely himself-things hadn’t worked out with the last girl and he had tried the Purdy School of Life-that had been fucking fun as shit, but it was getting old. Even now Ashley was talking of settling down with Brittany, which was shocking to everyone…especially Andy.

“So…what now?” Avery asked as she trained those gorgeous hazel eyes on him and CC only smiled as he moved closer and reached for a hand. She allowed him to take it and as CC stood there and looked down at this amazing girl, he felt his mind grow blank. What were they talking about again?

“I-uh-wanna walk on the beach for a bit? I’m not ready to let you go yet…”He smiled at her and Avery only smirked in return. The crashing sound of the waves did seem inviting and she had always loved walking on the beach at night.

“Lead the way Coma…” Avery said, a smile in her voice and CC only nodded as he pulled her over towards a small set of stairs that were already covered in sand. They made their way down the steps slowly-it was near midnight at this point and while the moon was full it was still fucking dark out here.

“So this was a nice date you came up with C…I’m still kind of in shock.” Avery teased as their feet met the sand and CC noticed that Avery’s smile grew. Brittany had mentioned that her best friend had loved the beach, but rarely got out there because of her schedule.

“Yeah well I don’t have a lot of good ones…so the next one might be kind of typical.” CC laughed and Avery only smirked as they walked along, hand in hand with the moon shining down on them.

“Who said I was willing to go on another one with you?” Avery teased and CC felt his smile falter slightly. Why was this girl so hard on him? Was it because he was in a band-or did she just not like drummers in general?

Avery knew it was harsh, but it was the truth-she still wasn’t sure about CC at this point. She liked him-shit he was gorgeous, funny, smart and sweet-but he was also in a band and only home two and a half months out of the year sometimes. Avery had been there, done that, hated the fuck out of it and it had broken her way too many times. Sitting by the phone or computer, watching Twitter like a hawk and then feeling her heart break when pictures start showing up online of your guitarist boyfriend…tonguing some other girl(s) back stage. The ugly late night phone calls, the early morning ones of forgiveness…it was all old and tired and Avery really didn’t want to do it anymore.

“Well I mean who said I was referring to you?” CC quipped back, the arm around her shoulders tightening and Avery could only smile. Watch yourself girl-he seems harmless but that cheating stick in his pants has a fucking mind of its own.

“So…how have you been enjoying this date so far? Obviously I haven’t scared you away yet…” Avery teased as she pulled away from him and moved closer towards the water. The cold sea swept over the tops of her feet and while it was cold-Avery loved every bit of it.

“Well the actual date was fun…but the girl was kind of boring…” CC winced as her hand connected with his shoulder, but then he smirked. He reached out in the darkness, grabbing Avery around her waist and tossed her in the air. She had some curves on her, but Avery was still pretty light and compact.

“I’ll show you boring Coma!” Avery said as her feet touched the ground and she swept one foot across the top of the water. Salty water sprayed across CC’s legs and he yowled at the coldness of it.

“I give in! No more!” He laughed as he walked over to Avery, scooping one of her hands in to his and they both grew silent. What was she thinking about? What was going on in that blonde head of hers?

“So when can I see you again?” He asked, his voice quiet and Avery tried to keep the smirk from her lips. He was hooked-they always got hooked, no matter how mean she was to them-but Avery wasn’t sure if this was a good thing right now.

“I dunno…how long are you guys off for?” She asked, her voice slightly sad. She knew they would be back on the road soon enough-breaks were never long enough and it was never enough time to get to know someone.

“Well we’re off through Halloween, but then on the road until a few days before Christmas. A small US tour to finish out the year and then I think we’re off until February-but don’t hold me to it.” CC said, biting down on his lip as he thought things over.

“Oh-that doesn’t seem too bad actually…” Avery mused as they turned around and began to head back the way they came. She was having fun, but it was getting late and she needed to get some sleep-big interview tomorrow and all.

“It’s really not-usually we’re on the road constantly, but now that some of the guys are getting more serious about their girls…we’re touring less.” He explained and Avery wondered which guys he was referring to.

Avery knew where this was going-she could sense it. Holidays together-weekends together…pretty soon they would be talking of her moving in to his condo. It sounded nice and for a few weeks it would be, but as soon as tours started up again it was misery city for Avery Williams. No amount of work or fun girls nights with Britt and others was going to stop her from thinking about what extracurricular activities CC was getting himself in to. It was always like this-time after time-and Avery was finally getting smart enough to stop things before they get started. She looked out over the waves as they neared the pier-everything had been wonderful tonight, but it was just another night.

“I mean that’s good…gives you time to have a break.” Avery said as they climbed the stairs and she noticed that her car and his were the only two left in the lot. Silently CC led Avery towards her vehicle, but stopped short.

“It also gives me time to get to know wonderful, hilarious, cute and sexy girls…” CC was smiling down at her now and Avery visibly gulped. The smile…those eyes…God she was such a fucking sucker.

Oh? You meeting up with someone else after this?” She asked-yep-get him with humor and maybe the subject will change.

“I was talking about you Avery…why don’t you think about yourself that way?” His tone was serious and his eyes even more so. Avery sucked in a breath-don’t cry, don’t you dare fucking cry right now.

“I dunno-every boyfriend I’ve ever had has left me for some prettier, smarter, funnier girl…why should I think I’m so great?” She said, her voice quivering and CC could tell he had hit a rough spot. He said nothing, but just placed two fingers under her chin and lifted her face up towards his.

“They were morons-all of them…I’m not that fucking stupid.” He said before his lips landed on hers once again.

Avery only sighed in to their kiss-she was leaning up against her car and CC was pressing against her like he needed her for warmth or something. She had one had on the back of his neck, his long hair tickling her skin, while her other hand was pressed against his chest lightly. CC was holding her tightly, his hands having moved to the small of her back and his lips were doing the talking for him. She was melting-like butter on a fresh pancake-and Avery knew she was hooked.

Everything about this guy was different-he was thoughtful, sweet and he didn’t mind her picking at him. Plus he was a hell of a kisser-proved by the fact that now his tongue was in her mouth and Avery didn’t have the urge to bring her knee up and hit him where it counts the most.

The kiss seemed to go on for ages-CC had moved one had to the back of her head and Avery was scratching at the skin of his neck softly. It was like being in another world-anything could happen in this moment and neither one of them would care. But it had to end-Avery needed to get home and work on some things for her interview tomorrow and she knew that CC had an early morning practice that next day. Slowly they broke apart and as Avery opened her eyes slowly, she could see that CC was staring down at her with a funny look in his eyes.

“What?” She asked, a blush creeping across her nose and CC said nothing as he bent down and pressed a light kiss to the very tip of her now red nose. She was so cute when she got embarrassed, but CC knew that that probably didn’t happen often.

“Just enjoying standing here with you…kissing you…” He said as he brought his lips to hers again, softly this time and he lingered there for only a moment before pulling away. Avery didn’t know what to do or say, so she just smiled and probably looked like a crazy person right now.

“I know…I’ve got skills.” She said, breaking the ice and CC only chuckled as he reached around and opened her door. He didn’t want to say goodbye, but they both had a long drive back and he was beat.

“I’d like to see those skills again…maybe tomorrow?” He asked, one eyebrow raised in hope and Avery only laughed as she kissed his lips lightly and then moved to get into the car.

“I’ll have my people call your people! Goodnight CC-thank you for the wonderful date…” Her voice got softer at the end and as CC watched this amazing girl get in her car and turn everything on, he couldn’t help but feel a little empty inside.

CC said nothing as he watched Avery drive away, her radio blaring, but inside he felt slightly less of himself. He knew then that he may have found the one person that he could care about for the rest of his life and that scared the shit out of him.

Notes

Aww! So cute and yet Avery still has those walls up...can you blame her though?
