Fight Against All Odds

Chapter 6

"You may come in Miss Jones."

I walked through the door and sat in the same chair I had sat in everyday after work for a week now.

In just a week I had lost 10 pounds from not being able to eat from fear. I couldn't do my job anymore, the anticipation ate away my insides. I went home everyday and threw up then sobbed myself to sleep. This had to stop.

Every new vaccination he came up with was more painful than the last. It didn't help that the pain also lasted longer each time. He smiled each day though. He knew he was coming close to the correct vaccination.

A cowardly part of me just wanted him to find the correct one and turn me into one of the zombies but I knew if that happened, all hope would be lost.

In the meantime, I knew I was going insane. I was going to die, and there was no way to stop it.

"Well Miss Jones I believe we are much closer to finding the cure. I'd say we could possibly find it in the next five or six tries!" Dr. Good said rather excitedly.

Five or six tries?!?! I'm going to be long dead by then!

He walked over to his cabinet filling the needle this time with a reddish colored substance. I was already about to vomit in fear.

I closed my eyes and imagined I was back home in my real mother's arms.

The needle slid into my arm. I screamed.

She was running back up to her apartment again, like she always did. I knew she was crying.

What the hell was happening to her!?

"Just make it through until tomorrow Grace," I whispered.

I stood over the toilet, vomiting everything that was in my stomach. I flushed it than went to the sink to brush my teeth.

I looked at myself in the mirror. Dark circles had formed around my green eyes and my face was as pale as a sheet of paper. My light brown hair was bent and damaged from having to wear it in a tight ponytail everyday.

It was obvious I had lost weight. I could count my ribs easily.

I walked into my bedroom.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw something move in my window.

I turned around sharply to face it but nothing was there.

Ten seconds later I was laying in my bed listening to my iPod.

"Never give in! Never back down! Never give in! Never back down! I sang along with the lyrics quietly.
"When your life feels lost FIGHT AGAINST ALL ODDS! Never give in! Never back down!

I will never give in.

I walked to work like I always did and sat down at my desk. At least twenty shirts needed to be mended by me today. Great.

I got to work sewing and then I noticed him.

Holy. Shit.

He was dressed in the same uniform gray pants and shirt. His hair was obviously stuffed in a gray baseball cap to make it look short. It actually looked short, you could only tell if it was long if you actually knew it was like I did.

To my surprise he sat next to me. My heart did somersaults inside my chest. Was he going to save me? I cursed at myself for getting my hopes up. I COULD NOT get my hopes up.

"A-Andy?" I whispered.
"Keep your voice down!" He whispered.

Oh my god.

"Why are you here?" I said.
"Can't tell you. But you need to tell me what happened to you," he said, I noticed a little bit of fear in his expression.
"I-I don't know if I can tell you," I stuttered.
"Why not?"
"Cuz...I don't know...I'm afraid if I talk about I'll start to cry."

He took my hand.

"You have to be strong Grace," he whispered.

I told him everything. How I had been caught humming and the experimentation Dr. Good did on me. How the pain got harsher and lasted longer everyday. Surprisingly I felt relief telling someone about this, although it was hard to keep myself from crying.

By the time I finished my story a single tear fell down my cheek.

He squeezed my hand comfortingly.

"I need you to get under your desk and take cover Grace," he whispered.

"Wha...?" Was all I could say before Andy stood up on the table.

"FOR FREEDOM!!!!" He yelled as ten other people pulled out guns and started shooting the guards.

Andy pulled out a gun, aimed it at Dr. Good who had just come out of his office, and fired.

I am crying. i cant believe andy almost died. I often get fanfiction confused with real life, and since andy was a real person rather than just a character, it was like he really died to me. that was a sick joke >:(
