Imagine Me and You

The air inside of the studio lobby was nice and cool-a change from the air outside, which was muggy and humid. LA was going through a warm streak and Kristen was thankful that she spent most of her days inside. She was a production tech at Standby Records which was nice because it meant that she could look and dress how she wanted. She also got free downloads for all upcoming artists-score! Currently Kristen was sitting behind her desk in the front, doodling on the pad of paper in front of her and blowing her curly black bangs out of her face. She was sweating to death in the black t-shirt she had on and all Kristen could think about was getting back to her apartment. Just four more hours and she was free.

Suddenly the door popped open and as Kristen aimed her bluish grey eyes upward she was met with a pair of sunglass covered orbs staring her down. He was tall and his black hair was much like hers-long on one side and shaved on the other. His black button up shirt was sticking to his lanky arms slightly and Kristen had to remind herself to close her open mouth.

The guy standing in front of her was a client with his band, but Kristen had only seen them a handful of times. Now there were others following in behind him and Kristen had to mentally slap herself so that she placed a smile on her face. Finally he had removed his sunglasses and as she looked in to those baby blues, Kristen knew she was done for.

“Hi, I’m Andy. Are you new here?” He was holding out his hand towards her and immediately Kristen smirked at him and held out her massively tiny hand.

“Um, no-you just are never here.” As soon as it left her mouth Kristen instantly regretted it. She had a smart mouth sometimes and usually it got her in to more trouble than she needed.

“Ha yeah, we’re usually pretty busy most of the year. But we’ll be here for the rest of the summer-I’m sorry…I didn’t get your name.” He was still holding on to her hand and that smirk of his was making her knees weak.

“Oh! I’m Kristen-sorry…the heat makes me kind of spacey. If you guys want to I can show you which studio you’ll be working in. Do you have a producer picked out?” She asked as she finally dropped Andy’s hand and then began to click away at her computer.

“That would be really awesome and yeah-Bob Rock is going to be working with us.” Someone from behind Andy spoke up and Kristen only nodded as she looked up the information and then stood up with a smile on her face.

“Fucking awesome. You guys are in studio B and I can take you there if you’re ready.” She said and Andy was smiling at her. That smile-it broke hearts all around the world.

The guys followed behind Kristen as they wove in and out of hallways, but she didn’t mind. She and Andy had gotten in to an interesting conversation about Bob Rock, his past work and how awesome of a guy he was. Kristen had never imagined she would be talking to Andy like they had known one another for ever, but that’s kind of how it felt right now. He made her laugh and every once and awhile she would get a low chuckle out of him. It was kind of sad when they had finally made it to the studio door and it was time for Kristen to get back to her desk. All of the guys moved to enter the studio, except for Andy. He stood before her, a shy look on his face as he reached out and grabbed for both of her hands.

“For some reason I feel really connected to you Kristen. Would-would you like to go out with me later tonight?” He was talking to her, but all Kristen could think about was the way he was looking down at her. Those eyes of his-so blue-were filled with a kindness that she had never seen there before.

“I-um-sure.” She didn’t know what to say and Andy was just standing there, smiling at her softly. He leaned down and for a second Kristen thought that he was going to kiss her, but then his lips fell against her cheek and he disappeared behind the door of the studio.

Kristen and Andy had a really fun night-he had taken her to dinner and then they had spent some time walking up and down the strip. They made one another laugh and while she was having a good time, Kristen couldn’t help but feel slightly nervous. There was an electricity between the two of them and Andy was certainly a very flirtatious person. He would make it a point to always touch her-her arm, her face, her hair…anything. They had decided that they would take things back to his apartment and as she waited for him to open the front door, Kristen could feel her heart pounding a mile a minute. What was going to happen? Could she go through with being intimate with Andy even though they had really just met?

“Kristen? Are you okay?” She jumped at the sound of her name and then when she looked up Kristen noticed that Andy was looking down at her with concern. Was she okay? Could she actually do this right now?

“I-uh…well…” The tears were beginning to well in her eyes and Kristen knew that Andy could see. It’s not that she didn’t like him-she just wasn’t confident when it came to this part of being around someone and she really didn’t know what to do or say.

“Hey…hey it’s okay. Do you want me to take you back to your car?” He had his hands on either side of her arms and Kristen felt an immense pressure fall from her shoulders. Andy could obviously tell that she was having a hard time and was nervous and he was being an absolute sweetheart about it.

“Um-no. No I’m okay.” She smiled at him and Andy only held out his hands for her to enter his apartment. There was just something about him that made her feel comfortable-his smile maybe.

As Andy closed the front door, Kristen could feel her heart beating a mile a minute, but she knew that in the end this could possibly the best night of her life and she would be stupid not to embrace it and face her fears and insecurities.
