We're Setting Worlds On Fire

Hearts On Fire Tonight

The cool night air brushed against her skin and Lily was thankful to be able to get out of that hot club for a moment. The guys had been touring in the UK for a week and everything had actually gotten a lot better. Their crowds had needed a little influence at first, but once word got around and kids started showing up on their own, everything improved.

The guys were playing better, harder and faster and Andy had completely embraced his fans. He constantly wanted to be around them-he would meet with them outside before gigs, at their meet and greets and then he would spend hours after talking to them in the alley. The guys were currently cooling off-having just gotten off of the stage and Lily needed to get away.

Lily loved the guys-she had finally remembered just how much-but there were times where she just needed a break. After Ashley’s admittance that he was no longer a Demon, all of the guys had begun to panic. An Angel, a half Demon, four guys who kind of sort of knew how to fight and an Army of teens didn’t give them much hope of winning against Satan and his horde of nasty things. Lily had faith, but right now she just needed some quiet time to herself. All of the kids were still in the venue, watching the Murderdolls, but it was only a matter of time before they found their way over here.

Lily looked up at the sky, her blonde hair tucked behind her ears and she smiled.
She missed Heaven-missed Michael and Mets …she even kind of missed Gabriel. But the more time she spent down here, the more Lily knew she needed to go back to Heaven. Earth was not the place for her anymore and while she loved Andy-they could never be together again.

She had finally heard from Michael as he had come to her through her meditation and Lily didn’t like what he had to say. God was watching she and Andy, very closely and he was beginning to worry about the closeness of the two. Lily knew then that she would have to move away from Andy, not cuddle or flirt so much, but it had been hard.

They had fallen right back into their old ways of laughing, giggling, tickling and loving one another. They would hole themselves up in the back lounge, watching movies and talking about things. Their past, their present and even their future. Andy had asked her to stay with him on Earth and while Lily had just laughed him off, she knew they were going to have to have a serious conversation at some point about what it meant to have a soul mate. She wasn’t his anymore and Andy had someone out there for him…he just couldn’t see it yet.

As she stood there, Lily noticed that everything was eerily silent-too silent. She looked around, shivering as she brought her hands up against her arms and rubbed roughly. The moon was covered by some over hanging clouds and as she walked down the alleyway, Lily jerked to the left. The street lamp above her, which had been lighting her way, sparked and fizzled out, leaving the Angel in complete darkness.

Something moved past her left and as she turned to catch it out of the corner of her eye, Lily gasped. A slight girl, her wild black hair flying around her head, was running around Lily and as the Angel caught a glimpse of the girl’s face, she wanted to scream.
Brianne-it was Brianne…the very first Demon Hybrid.

“Hello, Lily…” The girl’s voice croaked and as the slight girl looked up, her neck bent to one side-broken from hanging for so long until her body had been found-Lily gasped. Brianne had always had beautiful blue eyes-lighter than Andy’s-and now her eyes were devoid of color and were as black as night.

“Brianne…I was wondering when I would see you.” Lily said as she slowly moved so that her back was up against one wall of the club. The girl stopped running around her and Lily cringed as Brianne grabbed her own face on either side of her head and snapped her skull back into place on her neck.

“Aww don’t tell me you missed me Lily…” Lily watched as Brianne finally stood still and now the Angel was face to face with her former friend. No one knew a lot about the Hybrids, other than the fact that they were lost souls, pushed back into their bodies and then possessed by Demons. Poor Brianne…

“I missed you very much Brianne and I’m so sorry this happened to you…” Lily said, her voice sad and then she flinched as laughter pierced the night air. Brianne was standing in front of her, her head thrown back and Lily could now see the bruises running across Brianne’s once lively pink skin.

When her best friend was sixteen, Brianne had decided that she had had enough and Lily, sadly, was the one who found her best friend hanging in her brother’s closet. CC had moved out a month before and with his leaving, Brianne began to spiral. Their parents had never been the most supportive, which was why CC had left, but with his leaving he ended up leaving the two girls to fend for themselves. Lily’s mother was no better, but at least the abuse wasn’t the same and she could just shut her mother out.

After two days of not seeing Brianne at school, Lily-knowing that the girl’s parents were out of town-went over to her best friend’s house. The front door had been unlocked and as Lily walked up the stairs, she heard the faint sounds of music coming from CC’s room. She had felt the excitement going through her as she dashed up the stairs-CC must’ve come back home and Brianne had stayed home with him to hang out. As she reached the top of the stairs and pushed the door open, a scream froze in her throat as Lily found the body of her best friend.

Brianne, her blue eyes empty and staring, had hung herself by the very high shelf in her brother’s closet and Lily had no idea what to do. She cried as she ran to her friend, hugging her and then crying harder when she realized that she was very dead and would not be coming back. That had been it for Lily-she was alone and she knew her time was coming. She had made it six months of torture-being at school alone, being at home with her mother-when finally she’d had enough and she had cut herself out of her life.

“Oh, don’t feel sorry for me Lily. I’m so much better now! Stronger!” With that Brianne reached out, grabbing Lily by her throat as the Demon picked the Angel up and smacked her against the brick wall. Lily closed her eyes upon impact, tiny pieces of brick falling down and hitting her nose and her hands. Brianne only smiled as she spoke again.

Faster!” With this Lily found herself spinning, her throat still being squeezed shut and she gasped as Brianne let her go and Lily went flying. She fell to the ground in a heap, but she said nothing as she stood quickly and looked towards her former best friend.

“You may be all of those things Brianne, but deep down I know my best friend is still in there…” Lily said as she stood up and clapped her hands. Her sword, gleaming in the light of the moon with it’s pearl handle and engraved metal, was held high as Lily faced her best friend.

“Oh she’s in here and she’s crying out for you and that big brother of hers, but you’ll never see her again…I’m in control now…” Her voice, once so sweet and kind, was filled with pure hate and Lily sucked in a breath as she charged at the girl who she had once loved.

The two of them fought, Lily ducking and diving around Brianne, but she found it hard to move around the girl. The Hybrids were going to prove difficult to beat-their speed alone would give them an unstoppable advantage and Lily knew that this battle was going to be even harder. Brianne smirked as she tossed out a hand, catching Lily across her shoulders and soon enough the Angel was flying through the air. Lily landed hard against the ground, all of the wind being knocked out of her as she stayed down. She couldn’t do this-she couldn’t beat her best friend turned enemy and that fact broke Lily.

She and Brianne used to be best friends-they had done everything together. They had met in second grade when they had both shown up at Melissa Peterson’s Halloween party dressed as Wednesday Addams. All of the other little girls were dressed as Pink Rangers, Princesses, or Cowgirls, but not Lily and Brianne. They had bonded after that over their love of all things spooky and weird and they soon were constantly together. Brianne’s older brother CC had always been around, showing the girls new things and giving them tips on what music to listen to.

When they had hit high school, Brianne and Lily grew even closer out of the pure need to have someone who understood. They were both picked on for the way they dressed and the music they listened to and even CC proved to be a great relief for them. He would comfort the girls when they all got home-CC was a senior when the girls were freshmen and they would all end up in his room, listening to whatever new album he had managed to get. Those had been good times-fun times, but it had all come to a screeching halt when CC had decided to move out after graduating.

Their parents had never approved of the look or sound of the music choices of their son and daughter and when CC graduated they pressured him in to going to college. Drumming wasn’t a career-it was a hobby and he needed to either get in to school or get a job…or get out. CC chose the last option and as she laid there in that alley, Lily could remember the two girls holding on to one another, crying as CC pulled away in a friend’s van. He had been everything to them-he had helped them get by and they both knew that without CC…they would be lost.

Lily snapped back to the present as Brianne moved to stand over her, kicking her ribs roughly and Lily cried out in pain. She was an Angel and would heal quickly, but that didn’t make it hurt any less. Where were the guys? Where were the fans? Lily sat up, wiping her mouth as the blood dribbled down from one corner and she looked up. Brianne was smiling wickedly at her and Lily only smirked back as she moved her body up, doing a front somersault and she landed her foot right against Brianne’s slightly crooked nose.

“Stop it!” Lily sobbed as she turned back around and found the Demon standing before her. She had broken Brianne’s nose and Lily felt terrible, until she felt a fist connect with her jaw and she went flying back in to the wall.

“No! You can’t stop us Lily…for we are Legion and we are many…we will not stop…not until I peel the flesh from your bones.” Brianne was in front of her again, her tiny hands grabbing for Lily’s throat but the Angel saw it coming.

The two girls wove around one another and as they did so, Lily felt her strength come back to her. As Brianne approached, Lily threw out a force field and watched as the girl’s small body went flying through the air. As the Demon stood, Lily held out her hands, shut her eyes and summoned as much fire as she could possibly muster.

Nothing seemed to stop the Demon as she kept coming, her hair a blaze and her flesh was peeling from her bones. Lily held her breath as she planted a roundhouse kick to the figure in front of her and then watched as Brianne crumbled and fell to the ground. Lily rushed over, going down to one knee as she pulled the crispy looking girl in to her arms.

“Li-Lily?” The girl’s voice was weak and Lily felt the tears spring to her eyes. This was Brianne…this was her best friend.

“Yes! Oh Bri…I-I’m so sorry I couldn’t save you…” Lily was crying now, her tears falling on to the girl in her arms and Brianne just smiled softly. She placed a burned hand against Lily’s cheek and there was a sudden gasp from behind them.

Standing in the doorway of the alley, was Andy and CC, both looking at her with their mouths open in shock. Lily didn’t care-they could wait…she needed to say her goodbyes to the one person in her life who had always loved her.

“N-no. I-it’s okay. I made that deal and I know it was wrong of me…I just wanted to stop hurting…I was always hurting…” Her voice was fading and as the two girls sat there, Lily felt someone come up from behind her and she knew it was CC. How long had the two of them been watching?

“Bri-Brianne?” CC choked out and soon enough he was on his knees, his hands reaching out for his sister’s. How was this possible? She had died-he had gone to her funeral and he had seen her body.

“H-hey C. Take care of him for me will ya Lil’…” Brianne said as she eyes closed and Lily broke down. This-this was why she didn’t want to have feelings. It hurt too much to watch the people you love leave you and she had hoped she would never have to see it again.

“Brianne?! No! No come back!” CC was sobbing, having pulled his sister in to his own lap as he cradled her blackened body in his arms and Lily stood. Andy was standing there, his arms crossed over his chest as he looked to Lily for an explanation.

“I-I had to…sh-she was turned in to a Hybrid and it wasn’t Brianne at first…” Lily explained and Andy said nothing as he held out his arms and she fell in to them. Lily had never wanted to see her best friend like that, but seeing Brianne turn in to a monster only motivated Lily more.

“You killed her! You killed my sister!” CC was up, Brianne’s body had turned to dust, leaving a small pile behind and now CC was pissed and in her face. Lily looked at him with shocked eyes-she had done what needed to be done…it was not easy for her either.

“C-let me explain…” Lily stopped as CC screamed and shoved her before stalking off towards the bus.

“I-I didn’t want to Andy…I didn’t.” She kept repeating and Andy just held her as they both stood there in that lonely alleyway.

Lily had always wanted to see her best friend one last time…she just never thought she would have to set her on fire.

@FallenAngel26

Aww I'm so glad you liked it! This series was really fun for me to write because I was able to put so much imagery in to it.

Just finished this series and oh my gosh! I can honestly say that a fan fiction had not made me cry until now. This story hit me right in the feels, expecially the 'just tonight' chapter. It just makes me so sad that they love each other so much but they can't be together. Anyways I love your stories, they are some of my favorites on this site :).

I just have to say that after reading this I now look at God Bless You as a way of telling Satan off

@Truly A Teenage Runaway

Aww well thanks! Start with A Love By Mistake as that is actually where this story is supposed to go. I warn you-I have A LOT of work haha so it may take some time.
