Together Burning Bright

Paging Mr. Biersack. Paging Mr. Biersack

It was nice and warm under the covers, the chill spring air swirling around her blonde head, which was the only thing that was poking outside of the covers in that moment. Dess yawned-she didn’t want to get up, but she knew she needed to. It had been three weeks since Andy had left for LA and while things had been hard at first, Dess and Kit had soon gotten themselves into a routine.

Kit was currently sleeping in one of the guest rooms, but often enough the two girls would crawl into Andy and Dess’ bed for a movie night and then pass out half way through. Dess had slept alone last night however and she was thankful for the peace and quiet. Sitting up and running a hand through her messy blonde hair, Odessa couldn’t keep the smile from her face.

Andy was due home in two days and the couple absolutely could not wait to be reunited.

Dess stretched her arms over her head as she sat up and looked around-the sun was shining through their light blue curtains brightly and she knew that it was going to be a good day. It was nearing the end of April, which meant a lot of things. Flowers were springing up, her vegetable garden had been planted and was beginning to show signs of sprouting, and the air was getting warmer. Oh and let’s not forget that it was nearing Dess’ due date and while excited she was also terrified. Kit had thought it would be a grand idea to get a video of a woman giving birth-Dess needed to know what to expect.

Both girls had curled up together in Dess’ bed with a bowl of popcorn, but soon enough they were shutting their eyes and holding their hands over their ears.

Dess smirked at the thought as she swung her legs over the side of their large bed and then hissed as her feet hit the still cold floor. She searched around for her slippers and after finding one under the bed and seeing the other was across the room; Odessa slipped them on and began to shuffle around the room. She couldn’t really walk normally anymore-she waddled and swayed from side to side.

Her belly, large and swollen, felt tight that morning, but Dess only shrugged it off as she walked out into the hall and looked around. The baby’s nursery door was open to keep the room warm-everyone had gushed over her design skills at the baby shower-and Dess noticed that Kit’s door was also open, which meant that her best friend was up and probably smoking her second cigarette of the day.

“I suppose I should shower…” Dess mumbled to herself as she turned around and headed back into her master bathroom that she and Andy shared.

The bathroom was all white and black tile, the walls gleaming in the sun that came in through the solitary window. Dess loved this bathroom with its claw foot bathtub and huge three person shower that was lined with black tile, which made it so much easier to clean. She slipped into the shower, turning the water on full blast and to the hottest setting that she could stand and while that warmed up, Dess turned and looked at herself in the mirror.

She looked happy-the bags that had been under her eyes had disappeared and while her hair was in desperate need of cutting and touch up color-Dess didn’t look too bad. Her stomach though-whoa baby she was like a whale at this point and Dess knew she was going to have to do some major yoga and jogging to get back into shape.

Undressing quickly as the room around her began to steam; Dess stepped into the shower and sighed happily. This is what she looked forward to the most out of her days-being alone in a hot shower, her muscles relaxing for once as lately every inch of her ached. As she shampooed and rinsed her hair, Dess couldn’t keep the smile from her face-Andy was due home in just two days and that fact made her happier than she had been the entire time he had been gone.

They did speak every day-multiple times-but it just wasn’t the same. Every time they needed one another, when they were home together, it was a short walk out to the studio or a quick jog down the steps to Dess’ office and everything was fine. Lately it had been calling, hoping the person on the other end was either awake or free to answer the phone or it was dialing up on skype, wishing that the person on the other side had thought to leave their laptop open.

Suddenly the smile left her lips as a pain shot up her spine and Dess almost crumbled against the glass door of the shower. She remained standing as she was now leaning against one wall of the shower, but she placed her hands against her stomach and bit down on her lower lip. She had been feeling tiny contractions for a week-something her doctor said was normal as it was just the baby moving around to get into position, but they had never felt like this. Dess steadied herself, placing a hand against one wall of the shower, but suddenly another pain shot across her back and she cried out.

The water was still beating down on her head, soothing her pain slightly, but suddenly Dess felt a rush of water fall across her knees and she looked down, her eyes growing wide. The water running down the drain in the shower was slightly pink and thicker than the water coming down from the shower head. Odessa felt hot tears come to her eyes as she slumped to the floor of the shower, her hair and bangs flowing around her face and shoulders as she sat there and let the warm water pound down on top of her head.

What was she going to do? What should she do? Should she try to stand up? Should she stay sitting and call for Kit as loud as she could? It only took Odessa a few moments to figure out that sitting was the best option as it was less painful and that calling for Kit was also a pretty good option at this point.

“Kit!” Dess yelled, over and over again as her hands gripped her stomach and she cried even harder. Was this where her baby was going to be born? In this shower with water spilling all over her? What was going to happen if Kit didn’t hear her-Dess wasn’t sure if she could stand on her own at this point.

“Kit!” She yelled again and a wave of relief passed over her as Dess heard someone coming up the stairs and she knew that help was on the way.

“Dess if you’re calling me up here to show me your stretchmarks again I swear I’m going to-“ Kit stopped talking as she entered the bathroom and took in the site before her. Dess was sitting on the floor of the shower, her knees up against her stomach as she cringed and cried out in pain. Oh. Shit.

“This-is-more-than-just-my-stretch-marks!” Dess cried out in between the shooting pain that was going across every inch of her body. Kit was rushing towards her, a towel in one hand while her other yanked open the shower door, shut the water off and then reached down towards where Dess was sitting.

“Oh shit! Oh fuck!” Kit was cursing up a storm, something that Dess found funny and so in between contractions she was no longer crying, but instead she was smirking and laughing.

“It’s not funny Dess!” Kit shouted, tears spilling out of her bright green eyes as she reached down and tried to get Dess up off of the wet shower floor. The two girls, with a lot of cursing and pushing, were able to get Dess to her feet and Kit had then been able to wrap a towel around her best friend.

“It really is-I should be the one cursing.” Dess giggled as she sat down on her chaise lounge in the corner of the bathroom and watched as Kit rushed around the room.

“Okay-focus Katrina! I need to get your overnight bag, I need to call the hospital and have them page your doctor, and I need to get you into the car!” Kit was running around, her hair flying behind her wildly and Dess could only sit by and watch.

“Well first I actually need clothes and someone should probably call Andy…” Dess said as she stood and dropped her towel to the floor. Kit was now running around in her and Andy’s room, trying to locate the overnight bag that Dess had packed over a month ago.

Without saying a word, Odessa walked into her bedroom, opened a drawer to pull out some panties, two pairs of socks, and a bra. Kit was now running around looking for a phone and Dess could only shake her head as she moved around the room and began to get some clothes on. She was in massive amounts of pain and deep breathing was only helping so much, but Dess couldn’t stop the excitement from entering her heart.

This was it-soon she would be able to hold her little girl in her arms and she would finally get to give Andy the daughter that he had always wanted. As Odessa slipped a shirt over her head, Kit ran into the room, Dess’ cell phone in one hand and her overnight duffle in the other. The two girls just stood there, staring at one another until finally Dess laughed and began to make her way towards the stairs.

“I was able to get a hold of the hospital and they are getting everything ready for you.” Kit said as she took two steps at a time to get to the bottom before her best friend. Odessa seemed strangely calm, she was breathing in through her nose and out through her mouth while her hands held her stomach and she walked down the stairs slowly.

“What about Andy?” She asked suddenly and Kit sucked in a breath. It was nine in the morning where they were, so that meant it was still six in the morning in California.

“I tried his cell phone-no answer.” Kit said sadly as the two girls walked out into the bright morning sun and Dess made sure that the door was locked behind her. It made her sad to think that Andy would probably miss his daughter being born, but sometimes things couldn’t be helped.

“Jon? Ashley? CC? Jake or Jinxx? Did none of them pick up?” Dess asked as she walked towards her car, her feet crunching against the gravel as her ballet flats slipped slightly. She needed to slow down or else she was going to fall and hurt herself.

“I tried them all, but it is still pretty early there. I will keep trying Dess-I promise Andy will not miss the birth of this child…” Kit said softly as she opened the passenger side door and watched as Dess slowly climbed in.

“I know-that’s why I love you.” She reached out, her tattooed arms grabbing Kit around her neck and the two girls embraced quickly before Kit pulled away and shut her door.

The car was filled with nothing but the soothing sounds of Bert McCracken’s voice-Kit refused to listen to Andy the entire way to the hospital-and it seemed to be keeping Dess calm. Every once and a while she would hiss in pain, her eyes squinting closed and she grit her teeth. Kit almost pulled the car over-she was shaking so much that she could barely drive, but Dess assured her she was okay. Kit really needed a cigarette, but she knew that not only would Dess throttle her for lighting up right now-Andy would end her life for even thinking about smoking in front of his pregnant wife. She had to hand it to her fellow smoker-he had absolutely cut back and when he did smoke it was outside and he kept as far away from Dess as possible.

Twenty excruciating minutes passed and finally the car pulled into the hospital parking lot. Kit had been trying over and over again to get a hold of anyone out in LA, but there was still no answer. Dess was becoming more and more distraught and Kit felt helpless. Why did no one have their phones on? Did they not remember that their wife and or best friend was pregnant and could pop at any moment? Kit screeched the car to a stop right outside the emergency room doors and she was happy to see a cute little girl in a uniform, her hands holding on to a wheelchair.

“Come on Dess…time to get out and have this little burrito!” Kit was trying to keep things light, but as she got out of the car and moved to Dess’ door, she could see that her best friend was terrified. Her pale face was even whiter than normal and Odessa was visibly shaking.

“I-I really think we should wait for Andy…I need to wait for my husband…” She told the girl with the wheelchair. Kit rolled her eyes-leave it up to Odessa Montgomery-Biersack to think of Andy before herself.

“That’s fine and totally understandable! But-we’re going to go ahead and get you inside, get you into a bed and get you something to take that pain away. Okay?” The girl was a pro and Kit sighed in relief as Dess only nodded her head and shyly got into the wheelchair.

As she watched her best friend be wheeled off, Kit felt her heart drop-what if she couldn’t get a hold of Andy until it was too late? This was something that he had been looking forward to the most and it would kill him when he found out that he had missed it. Kit climbed back into the car, her face sad as she drove around the lot and tried to find a spot. By now someone should be up and Kit sighed as she pulled out Dess’ phone again and dialed every number in her contact list.

She had finally been able to get a hold of Momma Montgomery, who was ecstatic and was rushing over as soon as she could. Beth was also on her way-the girl had given birth twice and would be the biggest comfort to Dess out of all of them beside her mother. Yet she could not get anyone in LA on the phone-damn them all.

Kit walked into the hospital, shivering as she entered-she hated places like this-and walked up to the information desk. The nurse behind the desk was very helpful-Odessa had been admitted and was now resting in room 305 of the Maternity Ward, which was to the left, down two flights and at the very end of the hall. Kit thanked the woman, smiling nervously as she turned around and made a run for it-she had to be there for her best friend because no one else was at this point.

As she sped down the hallways and impatiently waited for the elevator, Katrina cursed Andy Biersack and his incessant need to constantly be away from his wife at the worst possible times.

Finally Kit found herself outside of room 305-the door was shut, but she could hear her best friend cursing up a storm behind the solid wood. Kit laughed as she turned the knob and entered the dimly lit room-there were already three people in there with Dess, getting the girl hooked up to heart monitors and other types of machinery. Kit stood off to the side, smirking as she noticed that Dess had broken out into a sweat-her blonde hair sticking to her forehead as she cringed in pain. Her heart went out to Dess-this couldn’t be easy and what was worse was that Andy was still unreachable. Finally the room began to clear out and the two best friends were left alone with one another.

“Anything?” Was all Dess was able to get out as another contraction hit her body and Kit looked down at her with a sad expression. That was a no…

“Your mom and Beth are both on their way. LA is still fast asleep from what I can tell.” Kit explained as she took a seat and reached out to take one of Dess’ hands.

“Great-everyone in the world is going to be here except for the one person who should be. I’m going to kill him…” Dess growled as she shut her eyes and Kit only smiled.

“Get in line sister…get in line.” The red head said and both girls shared a smile as Dess squeezed Kit’s hand and the red head grimaced in pain.

Both girls sighed heavily as Dess’ phone sat still on a nearby table and they both were thinking the same thing: Where in the Hell was Andrew Dennis Biersack?

Notes

So the anticipated birth of Baby Biersack is going to be split up in to three chapters. So that only means one thing-another update tomorrow!
