I explain everything to Ash and he holds me as I cry. I may lose my father. I can't lose him. Whose going to walk me down the aisle?
I get dressed shakily and ask Ash to drive me to the hospital. He agrees and we get in the car. On the way I start crying again. My dad has to live. He has to walk me down the aisle and meet his grandchildren. We arrive at the hospital. I explain everything to the receptionist and she escorts me to his room.
When I enter he is pale and bruised.
"Daddy," I sob as I reach his bed. He looks up at me feebly.
He says something I can't hear and I lean forward.
"My time is coming to an end." He coughs. I shake my head and tears stream down my face.
"Daddy, you can't. I'm getting married and I'm pregnant." I hug him.
"I had to see you one more time. Remember to be who you are. Don't be someone you aren't. Your mother would want you to be happy so dry your tears. I miss her you know." He kissed my cheek softly and closed his eyes. Moments later his breathing slows and then stops. They doctors rush in ready to bring him back. I shake my head and the head doctor turns off the alarm. I leave quietly. Ashley sees me and prepares to take me home.
"Wait!" The receptionist calls out. I turn back to see her and beside her Lukas. My younger brother. He is only fifteen. I have to take him in. He is my responsibility now.
"Lukas," I sigh and hold my hand out to him. He walks forward and hugs me.
"I missed you." He whispers. At least I have a part of my parents to remember them by. Ash says nothing but takes us home. We're going to need a bigger place. I fall asleep in his arms.
