What It Is To Burn

Odessa yawned as she looked up from her book and a small smile graced her lips. Andy and Ashley were sitting on the couch, laughing as Ash taught Andy how to play some video game and Andy was currently shoving the bassist playfully as he messed up. They were currently in Minnesota and thankfully the tour was finally coming to an end.The day so far had been a good one-Dess didn’t feel like death warmed over and she had been able to break away from the tent at Andy’s request.

Today was the day that he was scheduled to do an interview with Bryan Stars and both Bryan and Andy were holding Dess to her word that the next time he was interviewed by Bryan that Dess and Andy would do it together. She had thankfully managed to take a shower and was currently sitting at the kitchen table, Kindle in hand and sipping some iced tea while they waited. Loud laughter broke her concentration and Dess smiled brightly as she looked over to find Andy and Ashley wrestling on the ground.

It had been two weeks since their big blow out and while things had been awkward at first-the two seemed to eventually hash it out and now things had gotten back to normal. Ashley avoided Dess though-he smiled at her and spoke to her, but their cute relationship where they picked at one another was gone. Dess hoped that one day they could gain it back, but Ash seemed to want to keep his distance. Odessa looked down at her phone and smiled as she read over some of the texts that she had gotten that morning.

One from Kit-warning her that Bryan was in a pretty feisty mood that morning as he had already interviewed Kellin and Justin. Kellin had texted her to see if she wanted to stop by their bus later that day so that he could help her practice. The last text was from RSVP.com and it was an updated guest list of everyone who was coming to the wedding: 243 people were definitely coming and as she read over that number Dess felt her eyes grow wide. Rock Revolver Magazine was covering their wedding and would be there to take pictures of the ceremony and the reception, so she was looking at a pretty packed house.


“Guys!” Dess laughed as she watched Andy place Ashley in a head lock and the two of them began to roll around on the floor like two small children. They were both laughing and Dess only shook her head as she picked her book up and tried to refocus.

“Come here babe…” Andy said, his voice low as Dess looked up from her book and saw Andy creeping towards her, his fingers spread out and she felt her eyes grow wide. Ashley was smirking at her and Dess screeched as Andy grabbed for her and tugged her down towards the floor.

“Andy!” She laughed loudly and Andy only chuckled as he held her ontop of him and Ashley began to tickle her sides. Dess felt like she couldn’t breathe she was laughing so hard she tried to not kick her feet out like she usually did because then she would be kicking Ash in a very not so nice place.

“Dess!” Andy mocked her as he held her in place and Ashley began to tickle higher and higher until finally he was wiggling his fingers against the skin of her neck and Dess laughed so hard that she snorted and then hiccupped.

“Stooop!” She laughed and finally Ashley stopped his ticklish assault on her but Andy refused to let her go.

“Babe…let me go…” Dess said and Andy only laughed as he kissed her neck and Ashley stared down at the both of them. He loved these two people-Andy was his best friend and brother and Dess…well he loved her in ways that he shouldn’t but she had also become a best friend to the bassist.

“Nope.” Andy said, closing his eyes as Dess tried to wiggle herself free. Andy groaned and Dess stopped-she didn’t realize what exactly she was wiggling against and Ashley only rolled his eyes at the couple as he stood and moved to sit on the couch.

“We have to go to your interview soon…” She said, her voice stern and Andy only held on more tightly. Dess looked up at Ash, her eyes wide as if to say, ‘why are you not helping me right now?’ and he only laughed as the bassist silently picked up the controller and restarted the game in single player mode.

“He can wait…” Andy said and he kissed the skin of her neck once more and Dess had to admit to herself that it was nice laying there with him.

“Let me go or I’m not doing the interview with you…” Dess warned and suddenly Andy had let her go and Dess smirked at Ashley, who was only looking at her with shocked eyes and shaking his head back and forth slowly. Dess knew how to get her way with Andy-she could play him better than a deck of cards at this point.

“So mean…” He groaned as he stood, pulling his pants up and Dess smirked as she looked down at his crotch and then looked back up at him with one eyebrow raised.

“You-uh-wanna go take care of that babe?” Dess asked as Andy looked at her, confusion lacing his features until finally he noticed where her eyes were pointed and he only smirked at her-that forever adorable boyish grin.

“Only if you help me with it…”He was still smirking at her and Dess only laughed as she folded her arms over her chest and shook her head. Andy pouted and Dess smiled more as she leaned in and kissed his lips gently-being sure to rub right against him and she giggled as he groaned loudly against her mouth.

“Dude! Get a fucking room!” Ashley laughed from the couch and Dess only stuck her tongue out at him as she grabbed for Andy’s hand and soon the two of them were walking down the bus steps and out in to the heat.


The day was coming to an end-the guys played earlier and Dess was happy to know that after this interview she and Andy could head back to the bus and relax. They had two weeks left on the tour and then they would be home. Andy had some fly in dates for shows in LA and he had been talking to Ronnie Radke about doing some studio work. The guys had also decided that they wanted to do some new tracking for some of their older songs and so there was chance that the guys would be coming out to the house to stay during that whole process.

Dess would be in full on Wedding Mode by that point and while she had thought about going out to LA with Andy-she would probably sit this one out and stay at home. It made her nervous since they hadn’t been apart since getting together, but she trusted him-they wouldn’t be getting married if Andy was just going to cheat on her with some random girl while on tour.

Dess looked out around her, smiling as she noticed various bands walking around the buses and there was even a small football game going on in a grassy field near the I See Stars bus. Trish and Devin had broken things off-thankfully and the young girl was all for focusing on getting her school work in order for the upcoming fall semester. Dess was proud of her and she knew that eventually Trish would see her point.

The couple walked hand in hand over towards a small tent that had been set up for Bryan and Dess smiled. He had become quite the celebrity and Dess felt happy for the young guy-he was living out his dream and doing something that he loved. Finally they approached and Andy squeezed her hand as he spoke quietly to Jon, who had gotten there before them and would be there throughout the entire interview.

Andy was beyond excited to do this with her and Dess was really happy that she had been feeling up to it today. She had been even more sick than usual-throwing up most mornings and she had the worst heartburn she could imagine. She put on a smile as she spotted Bryan and the blonde haired interviewer waved to her as he fiddled with something on his mic and then approached the couple.


“Hey guys! Are you ready to do this?!” Bryan asked and Dess smiled as Andy squeezed her hand and then she watched as the two embraced in one of those manly half hugs. They were led into the tent where there was a small table but no chairs as Bryan’s interviews were always done standing.

“How’s it going man?” Andy asked as he moved to stand closest to the table and Dess moved to stand on his right while Bryan took the left.

“You know we’re going to switch places at some point…” Andy said to her and Dess only laughed as she swiped her bangs out of her face and noticed that the little red light on the camera was on-of course Bryan would record every moment of this that he could.

“…if I let you.” She scoffed and Andy nudged her with his elbow as he smirked down at her and turned back to Bryan. The interviewer was taking them in silently with a small smile on his face and Dess knew that he was thinking about how hilarious this interview was going to be.

“I’ve been good. Better question is how have YOU been? Getting married I see and with a new hair color and everything…” Bryan said and Andy laughed as he rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand and Dess squeezed the hand that held hers softly.

“Yeah-we’re getting married on-uh-“ Andy stopped and looked down at Dess, who only rolled her eyes…of course he would forget.

“-Halloween babe. Our wedding is on Halloween and hopefully Andy remembers to show up for it.” She laughed as she looked into the camera and rolled her eyes over dramatically.

“I’m sure he’ll show up. So I have the first question for you-“ Andy laughed and held up their clasped hands and pointed down at her with a smirk on his face.

“Already with the questions? Don’t you want to ask Dess some questions?” Andy said and Dess scrunched up her face and shook her head back and forth softly.

“Well I actually have a whole page for her, but we will introduce her first. This is-uh-different because she’s not in the band so I can’t ask her what position she plays.” Bryan said and Dess smiled as she leaned in and griped the mic with one hand and looked straight in to the camera.

“My name is Odessa Montgomery and I play the horizontal Kazoo for Black Veil Brides. You never see me because I lay in the back behind CC’s drum kit…” She said in all seriousness and Andy burst out laughing as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder s and Bryan giggled as he looked into the camera.

“That was supposed to be my position-mine! Haha-anyways. Andy, what is going on with your hair man? I know you’ve gotten a lot of hate for it this summer so if you want to address the fans here and now-“ Bryan said and Dess could hear Andy groan. He was asked this question a lot but thankfully Bryan was a good friend and she knew Andy would suck it up for him.

“Look man-I’m not going to defend myself or anything. I wanted a change-it gets rough out here on tour and especially on this one in particular because it’s so hot and we don’t always get showers so I just wanted something that would be maintenance free. I mean I’m human I’m allowed to change-the music still sounds the same and that’s the most important thing about it.” Andy said and Bryan stood there nodding his head and Dess just remained silent when suddenly she got a wide smirk on her lips and looked straight in to the camera.

“It’s all my fault! I chopped it off one night while he was sleeping and then I poured bleach all over his pillow-so you can blame me!” She laughed, rolling her eyes into the camera and then she stood up straight and Andy was just looking down at her with the biggest grin on his face.

“I knew it! So you guys are getting married in October-would you mind telling the viewers how you met one another and how you guys make it work?” Bryan asked and both of them smiled and began to talk at once.

“He bumped into…”

“She ran into me-“

They both stopped and laughed at one another and Andy pulled her closer to place a kiss to the top of her head as Dess leaned into the mic and smirked.

“This is our first interview together so we’re still getting in to the swing of who talks first. Babe?” She turned to look up at him and Andy only smiled as he inhaled a puff from his cigarette and looked to Bryan.

“You want me to answer? Okay-well we actually met on Warped Tour at her date two years ago in Virginia where she’s from. I went to the merch tent to check on Toby, our merch guy, and to get out of the bus. I remember I was feeling really shitty-lonely and as I was standing there watching people walk past I saw this girl with blonde hair and light colored eyes get caught up in a crowd. She grabbed for one of the poles of our tent and soon enough she was standing in front of me with her back almost pressed against my chest. I looked down, saw a Batman tattoo and knew that I had to talk to her.” Andy explained and Dess smiled up at him, nodding softly as his arm tightened around her shoulders.

“Dess does that sound correct?” Bryan asked and she only laughed as she leaned into the mic and cleared her throat.

“Yes-he did forget to mention that I had absolutely no idea who he was.” They all laughed and Bryan nodded his head.

“That’s right I remember reading that you didn’t even listen to Black Veil Brides before you met this guy.” He said and Dess only laughed as Andy pouted into the camera and then she spoke.

“No clue. I had heard one song of theirs from my sister and that was it. I didn’t even know who he was until I was standing in the crowd watching their set and he came over to me and placed his hand against my cheek.” She admitted and Andy bent down, kissing her lips softly before he straightened back up and looked to Bryan.

“So Dess-we do this thing in my interviews where you have to come up with a porn star name. Do you have one?” Bryan asked and Dess smirked and looked up at Andy. She had watched the interviews and she knew all about Dennis Westhower.

“Barbara, Big Tits, Gordon.” Dess laughed and Andy’s eyes grew wide before he let out his own chuckle and Bryan just looked at the both of them like they were crazy.

“Nice-nice babe.” Andy laughed as he held up his hand and she high fived him. Bryan still looked completely lost and that just made them laugh even harder.

“Barbara Gordon is the original Batgirl…” Dess said and finally Bryan seemed to get it and Andy just smiled down at the two of them.

“I get it I get it. Okay so Dennis Westhower is marrying Barbara Big Tits Gordon on Halloween-I like it.” Bryan laughed and Dess only shook her head.

“So how do you guys make your relationship work? I know you’ve been on tour with him for a while now right?” Bryan asked and Dess smirked up at Andy and he only shook his head.

“I’ve been touring with Andy and the guys for almost two years. We officially got together on New Years Eve and I went on tour with them that spring.” She said and Andy only smirked as he lit another cigarette.

“How has that been? I mean it must suck being the only girl on a huge tour bus.” Bryan said and Dess only laughed as she reached out and plucked one of the strings on his hoodie and then looked in to the camera.

“Well we have huge orgies-No! I’m kidding! It’s been great. It was something I definitely had to get used to but the guys and I are like siblings-I’m their older sister who tells them when it’s time to go to bed and when they need to get up.” She laughed and Andy only shook his head softly.

“It must smell really bad on that bus…” Bryan stated and Dess only laughed and nodded as Andy pouted in to the camera.

“We don’t stink I promise-“

“You’re feet smell pretty bad babe…” Dess said as she interrupted him and Andy scrunched his nose at her as he grabbed her around the neck and pulled her to his chest. He playfully ground his knuckles against her head and Dess only giggled loudly as he let her go.

“You guys are hilarious. So Dess I know you have a new business going on that has taken off on this tour. Wanna talk about that?” Bryan asked and Dess only laughed as she dug her flip flops into the dirt and looked in to the camera.

“No. No I don’t want to give free publicity for my t-shirt line at all. Misfit Clothing is terrible and please don’t buy any of my things.” Dess said, her tone serious and Andy only laughed from beside her as he shuffled to her left and now Dess was in the middle.

“I’m just kidding! Yeah it’s called Misfit Clothing and basically I took some of the pieces of my own art that I like and that he likes and I contacted this great company who does all of my printing and yeah.This is one of the shirts and Andy wears them pretty often as well-although he’s destroyed most of them at this point to fit his needs.” Dess laughed as she pointed to her chest and then held her hand out towards Andy, who only gave the camera a cheesy smile and a thumbs up.

“What is going on with your clothes these days man?” Bryan asked and Andy only laughed as he reached out and rubbed his ringed fingers over Bryan’s famous blue hoodie.

“I don’t know man. We can’t all wear the same blue hoodie like you can Bryan.” Dess burst out laughing and even Jon was laughing a little bit. Poor Bryan didn’t know what to say so he just scowled at Andy and then turned to Dess, who was still in the middle.

“Alright, ignoring him. So Dess-how did you get into Batman. You were obviously a huge fan before you met Andy and I can tell you like him because you have an entire sleeve dedicated to him…” Bryan asked and Dess laughed as Andy bent down and placed his chin on her shoulder as she moved to talk in to the mic.

“I hate Batman actually-my main man is Spiderman-“ Dess stopped talking as Andy clamped a hand over her mouth and turned to face Bryan.

“She’s a filthy liar-don’t trust a word she says!” All three of them laughed as Dess looked into the camera and crossed her eyes before she turned back to face Bryan.

“No I do love Batman. My dad actually was a huge fan and he got me into it. I used to work as a comic artist for DC-I had three Batman comics out under my name plus a quarterly comic that I pretty much controlled everything on. Andy’s love for Batman came after he met me of course…” Dess laughed loudly as Andy tickled her around the waist and moved to stand behind her.

“It’s true-I never even knew who Batman was until I met this little vixen.” They all laughed and Dess caught a glimpse of Bryan’s questions as he moved to adjust his mic.


The questions he had written down were definitely ones that the two of them would not normally answer but this was Bryan Stars. Dess knew that she was in for at least an hour long interview but she didn’t mind as she knew that Andy would make things interesting. She smiled as Bryan asked Andy some questions about the record and if they had any plans to release any more videos for songs off of the album. She loved to watch Andy talk-he was so well spoken and he knew just how to express himself in a slightly humorous yet honest way. Suddenly both of the guys grew quiet and were looking at her. Andy had his eyebrow raised in the air and Bryan was looking at her expectantly. Shit. Had he asked her something?


“Sorry-zoned out there for a minute.” She apologized and Bryan only smiled at her as he opened his mouth to repeat the question.

“I was just asking Andy how many kids you planned on having once you’re married…”
And with that Dess and Andy smiled and dove head first in to their first real interview as an almost married couple.
