What It Is To Burn

The First Day Of Hell

Andy was dragging ass as he walked through the lobby of their hotel and he groaned as he came to the large doors and looked out. The sun was hardly up in the sky and there she sat: Big Bertha-their home away from home for the next two months. Andy looked at the chaos around him and he smiled. Dess was currently trying to pack up as many shirt bins into the bottom of the bus as possible-she wouldn’t be able to fit everything, so most of her stuff would have to go on their instrument trailer with their merch, which was a pain but unavoidable.

Jon was trying to get everything settled with their pass situation, CC and Jake were already on the bus and in their bunks-asleep, the lucky bastards. Jinxx was pacing as he talked to Sammi on the phone and Andy didn’t know where Ashley was but right now he didn’t give a fuck. He was still pissed at the bassist for his drunken comments from the night before and Andy would have to dig deep to forgive him.

He walked towards the bus, his duffle over his shoulder and Andy sighed happily-another tour was about to start and this one would be one of the best. He loved Warped Tour, he had loved it as a kid and he loved it now. He and Odessa met at Warped Tour almost two years ago and he felt taken aback by that fact. Two years-he had fallen for her that summer and it only seemed like yesterday. As Andy walked up the steps he couldn’t keep the smile off of his face-Trish was on the bus and she had been hard at work to get things all settled.

Their little knick-knacks and action figures lined the shelves and Andy only smirked as he passed the younger girl to head back towards the bunks. CC was snoring away in his bunk above Jake and Andy sighed as he looked around-only one extender bunk and it was in the very back and on the top. Andy threw his duffle into the depths of his new bed for two months and turned around, almost bumping into Dess as she had snuck up behind him.

“Found the extender bunk I see. Here-your pass.” Dess smiled up at him as she handed Andy a laminated pass that had the BVB star emblazoned on the front. He smirked as he took it from her tiny hands and clipped it to the large silver ring that he had attached to his belt for this very reason.

“Thanks babe. Did you get all of your stuff settled?” He asked as Andy threw an arm around her shoulders and he and Dess began to head off towards the front of the bus. They sat down at the kitchen table, facing the television as she only smiled at him and nodded.

“Yeah, most of it is on the trailer, which sucks but oh well-Toby promised he would help Trish and I unload everything each morning.” She said as Dess yawned widely and leaned her head up against his shoulder. Jinxx entered the bus, his features clouded as he stuffed his phone in his pocket and headed off towards the bunks. Ashley was still MIA, but no one seemed to be too concerned at the moment.

“Toby’s a really great guy. Are you ready for some really long days babe? I know you’re still feeling funky and you’ll tell me if you’re getting really sick right?” Andy asked, his hands resting a top hers as Dess only sighed at him. She had been feeling pretty crumby lately and she had hoped it was just her stressing over the tour and their upcoming wedding, but something in Dess told her that it had to be something more.

“I promise.” She said, kissing him on the mouth to end their conversation and Andy seemed to be okay with it.

They sat there, laughing and joking about the tour as everyone else entered the bus-Ashley finally showed up with the worst hangover and he only grunted at them as he passed on his way back to his bunk. Jinxx had come up front, his face tired looking as he settled on the couch and finally Jon got onto the bus and Dess smiled as she heard the engine rev and the wheels were soon turning.

Jon grunted as he got up, passing the three of them papers on his way towards the back. Uh-oh…rule time and Dess only smiled as one by one CC, Jake and Ash all shuffled their way to the front of the bus, Trish following behind them looking equally as tired and Jon brought up the rear. They were all sitting down, Ash had on his Hello Kitty snuggie, CC could hardly keep his eyes open and Jake just groaned as Jon handed him a paper.

“Alright troops-here’s the deal. I will not know when you guys are playing until the day of-gates open at eleven and so the earliest you will play is noon. So, everyone has to be up no later than eleven to get ready and be on stage for two minute warning. I will let either Dess or Trish know first thing in the morning when you’re playing that day and they will relay the message.” Jon spoke and Dess felt her eyes grow wide. Since when had she become his assistant?

“Also, bus call is at two am every night, even when we aren’t moving on until the next day. No ifs, ands, or buts. I will personally be locking this door every night and I don’t care how loud you bang on it, it will not open until the next morning. Also-keep the amount of people on this bus to a minimum-I’m looking at you Purdy.” Jon said and everyone laughed as Ashley only rolled his eyes and flicked them all off quickly. Dess noticed that Jon had a box near his feet and she was hoping that it was what she thought it was.

“Lastly-Dess and Trish the two of you will be responsible for your tent and your equipment. Toby has offered to help out and that’s great, but he has to focus on our tent first. Understood? Oh and this came for you at the front desk Odessa…here.” She only nodded as Jon handed her the box and Dess smiled as she felt the weight of it in her hands. It was exactly what she thought it was and Dess couldn’t wait for this meeting to be adjourned so that she could open it and start addressing things right away.

“Alright-well we’re hitting the road and I will see you guys once we get to the venue!” Jon clapped his hands, making a snoozing CC jump and Dess only laughed as she reached for something to get the tape off of the box that she was dying to open.

Dess felt her eyes grow wide as she opened the box and pulled out one of the thick cards that lay inside-their Save The Date Cards. She had been waiting and waiting for them to come and finally they were here and Dess couldn’t help but laugh at the front of them. She and Andy were standing there, back to back and they looked hilarious. She was dressed as him, like she was wearing an Andy Six costume with her blonde and pink hair teased to the sky and her arms and neck were black as night. Her green eyes stood out against the black eye makeup and her lips were cherry red with stitches coming off to one side. She was dressed in tight leather pants and a leather jacket, her hands sheathed in a pair of fingerless gloves as she glared into the camera, a slight smirk on her lips.

Andy looked even better than she did with his black hair slicked back, a pencil behind his ear. He wore no makeup and instead he held a sketch pad in his hands, a plaid shirt and skinny jeans covered his lanky frame and he smiled brightly into the camera, his blue eyes shining. They had switched places-appropriate since the reception was a costume party. The two of them were against a grey background with the words ‘Save The Date For Our Halloween Wedding Bash!’ hanging above their heads.

Dess held up the card in her hands, blocking Andy’s view of the television and she laughed as his eyes grew wide and he reached out to take the card from her. There were three hundred total-a huge wedding, but they had a lot of friends and family that had to be invited. The two of them sat there, laughing over their cards and Dess felt light in that moment. This was one less thing to worry about-now she just had to survive the tour.

After an hour and a half of riding around in a bumping bus everything stopped. Dess had been laying on the couch, her head in Andy’s lap as he stroked her hair, both of them training their eyes on the movie that Jake had put in to the player. Dess had a horrible headache-again, but Andy’s fingers running over her scalp seemed to be helping. She just kept going over things in her head. Things that needed to be done as soon as they stopped-like getting checked in and then she and Trish would have to figure out where their tent would be stationed.

Dess had hoped that it would be near the guy’s tent, but all of the headliners had their own area and all of the clothing and other tents had a separate area that was probably located at the other end of the venue. As the bus stopped completely, Dess sat up, her chin resting on the back of the couch as she looked out over the venue. There were a lot of buses around and a lot of people walking out in the morning sun. It was only 8 in the morning, but Dess was shocked by the amount of people that were already setting things up.

“This is it…” Andy sighed in her ear as he rested his chin on the back of the couch, his head leaning up against hers and Dess only laughed. He was such a big kid when it came to getting excited about things like this.

“Alright! This is going to be our spot for the day! I just got a text from Felicia who coordinates all of the set times and you guys won’t be on until 6 tonight! We’re on the KIA Stage all summer, so head that way for two minute warning and please don’t make me hunt you down…” Jon said the last bit with a pointed look towards CC, who only shrugged his shoulders and moved to stand up.

“We’ll be there Jon-quit your bitching.” A gruff voice sounded out from behind them and Dess only groaned as she looked around and saw who it was. Ashley. He was dressed for the day in a pair of tight black pants, his boots and his cowboy hat was pulled low over his eyes.

“Fine. I’ll leave you guys to get yourselves checked in and don’t forget Andy-you have to be at the AP tent for a two o’clock signing.” Everyone looked towards Andy as Jon addressed him and the silence that followed was awkward.

Dess leaned in, placing her lips against his and she smiled as she pulled away and saw that Andy seemed to be in good spirits. Hand in hand they both got off of the bus, the heat of the morning hitting them in the face as Dess and Andy walked off towards the check in tent. There was a huge ass line, but thankfully they had already gotten their badges for the summer and so all they needed to do was check in with the Overall Band Manager-for Andy and the Merchandising Manager-for Odessa.

Dess felt slightly star struck as they headed back towards the bus and on the way they had passed the bus for the Used, where Bert and Quinn were hanging outside smoking and they also passed the bus for Bring Me the Horizon, but no one was outside yet. Dess made a bee line for the trailer, where Trish was already pulling things out and lugging them onto a small cart that would take them to their designated spot. Andy looked down at Dess, smiling at her but he was still worried. Having a merch tent during the biggest summer festival was hard work and Dess was already not feeling good.

“Want some help? I have some time before I have to head over to the AP Tent and the first day is always the hardest…” Andy offered and Dess smiled as she turned to him, a tub of shirts in her arms as she passed it off to him. They all worked in silence as they hustled to get as much on the first trip as possible.

Allison-the Merchandising Organizer had given Dess a small map and instructions on how to get to their location and it came in handy as they tried to find their way around. This place was huge and Dess couldn’t imagine what it was going to look like in just a few short hours when all of the kids were let in to the gates. Looking at her watch she saw that it was nearly 9 and the gates would be open in two hours-that was two hours for them to get the tent up, the shirt display up and Dess would have to take an inventory before they sold anything so she could keep track of what was selling and what wasn’t.

Finally after roaming around aimlessly they found their spot-number 42-which would be their number all summer and Dess hopped down from the cart and spread her arms wide as she twirled around. She wasn’t feeling good, but fuck it felt awesome to be a part of something like this.

“Shall I get the tent set up?” Andy asked, smirking down at her as Dess stopped twirling and turned to him. He was adorable in that moment-his blondish hair shining in the sunlight, his skinny jeans and Toms already covered in dust and dirt.

“Yes please. Trish if you want to start unloading everything I’ll get the pins out and start tacking on price tags.” Dess said as the younger girl only nodded and moved to start getting the bins off of the back of the cart.

It took three trips and an entire ten minutes of Andy cursing as he tried to get the tent up, but finally by 10:34 everything was set up. Dess stood back, a huge smile on her face as she took everything in. All of her shirts were displayed with their price tags, the table was set up in the back with five of each size of her shirts folded and ready to sell, with the storage bins being kept underneath. They had two chairs to sit in, a cooler with water and a long table in the front with their sign and a place to set their stickers.

Misfits Clothing was all set and Dess felt proud. Doing shirts had only been something fun for her at first-something that she only wanted to try and get some of her art out there. But now it seemed like a real business and as Andy came up behind her, his arms wrapping around her shoulders-Dess felt really happy with what she had.

“You better get going before they let the rabid fans in and you get mobbed.” Dess laughed as she placed her hands over his, her ringed fingers rubbing at his skin gently.

“I’m gonna stick around for a while-I want to see you in action.” Andy said, his voice low in her ear as Dess turned to face him, her eyebrows raised as she looked at him with wide eyes. He would be trampled within minutes of people walking past and realizing who he was, but he could do what he wanted.

“Are you sure? I don’t want Jon to hold me responsible for your early demise.” She laughed as Andy only kissed the side of her head and moved to go sit down in one of her chairs. Trish was sitting in the other and with no other choice Dess only laughed as she walked over and plopped down on top of Andy’s lap.

The small group sat there talking quietly to one another as they watched other merch tents being put up around them. A few people stopped by to look things over and a few of the other t-shirts sellers complimented Dess on not only her merch, but also how she had everything set up. She leaned back against Andy and Dess felt the heat getting to her. They were still in California, so the heat was also accompanied by a gentle breeze, but Dess couldn’t imagine how things were going to be when they moved South towards Texas and Arizona.

There was a soft rushing noise coming from the front gates and suddenly kids began to flood the area on their way to the huge schedule board. Some stopped on their way, no one bought anything, but Dess held on to some hope. She knew how this went-get to the schedule to see who is playing when and then either head to whatever stage or start to walk around until the time for your favorite band came up.

“Holy shit-you-you’re Andy from Black Veil Brides!” Someone shouted and Dess felt her eyes grow wide as she turned from talking to Trish and saw that there was a small group of girls standing in front of her tent. Andy only smirked at them and leaned his hands on the front table, his blonde hair shining in the sun as the young girls took him in.

“Hey guys! How’s everything going today?” He asked them and Andy continued to smile as the flustered girls approached him for autographs and pictures. Dess smiled softly as she watched Andy handle his fans with grace and gratitude-he truly understood that without the BVB Army…there was no such a thing as Black Veil Brides.

Things picked up about two hours after the gates had opened and Andy sadly had to retreat back to the bus to get ready for his signing at the AP Tent. He had been mobbed several times and at first they had all found it funny, but it quickly got out of control. When there was a lull in the crowds, Andy had quickly kissed her goodbye and Dess could only giggle as she watched him take off into a sprint as he ran towards the buses.

She had sold ten shirts already and two hoodies-a good profit for it being so early in the day, but now Dess wanted to take a break and go see Andy do his thing at his first signing of the summer. However, someone had quickly approached her tent, holding a microphone in her face and Dess had to take a step back, a defensive smile on her face.

“Hi!” The guy behind the microphone said and Dess stepped back a little so at least the fuzzy piece to the mic wasn’t threatening to go up her nose. The guy seemed nice enough with his purple hair and septum piercing, but his sudden appearance had thrown Dess for a loop.

“Uh-hi.” She said, her voice wary as Dess looked over her shoulder at Trish, who could only smile and shrug her shoulders.

“I’m Micah from Rock Republic and I wanted to see if I could do a quick interview with you for our weekly magazine?” He asked and Dess smiled-she never anticipated anyone wanting to talk to her again after her Tattoo Ink interview debacle.

“Uh sure-should we do it in here?” She asked and he only nodded as Micah came back behind her table and made himself at home. Trish looked down at Dess, who only shrugged as Micah cleared his throat and pushed the mic into her face more. Rude much?

“So, what exactly is Misfits Clothing? Where did you get the idea from and who does all of the designs for the merch?” Micah asked and Dess felt herself blush. People probably didn’t even realize that she had come up with this whole thing one morning sitting around the kitchen table with Andy-tossing ideas back and forth.

“Well Misfits Clothing is kind of my baby in a sense. I started it this past winter with the encouragement of my boyfriend. I got the idea from him basically-he told me that my original art was so awesome and that it would look great as shirt graphics and it kind of just went from there. I design, draw and create all of the graphics and a small company called T-Shirt Freedom has helped me get everything off of the ground.” Dess said, smiling at Micah as he smirked at her and looked down at a small pad of paper that he had in his lap.

“Now the name: Misfits Clothing. Tell me about that.” Dess smiled as she remembered her exact inspiration.

“My little sister passed away over a year ago and one of my nicknames for her was Misfit. She loved who she was and she loved everything about this type of music and I just wanted to honor her in a way. Besides-we’re all misfits in our own right, so why not be admired for it?” Dess said and Micah smiled at her as he cleared his throat.

“Now do you have a favorite design?” He asked and Dess looked at the wall behind her. Shit-that was a tough question.

“Wow-that’s like asking me to pick between children. Haha-uh-I really love all of my stuff, but this shirt is probably my favorite.” Dess motioned for Trish to hand her a shirt and soon Dess was holding it up for Micah to see. It was one that she had done especially for Warped Tour and she had fallen for it instantly. It was a black shirt with a red headed girl bent over, a small black kitten in her hap and her white dress flowed around her body while poppy flowers sprung up around her. Poppies symbolized remembrance and that was why Dess had chosen them.

“That is an awesome shirt. So I just have one more question for you.” Micah smiled at her and Dess sighed-a short and sweet interview…that was her style.

“Okay-shoot.” She said as Dess smirked at the younger guy and watched as he smiled right back at her.

“What is it like being the girlfriend of Andy Biersack-leader singer of the hugely popular band Black Veil Brides?” Fuck-really? This fucking question again? Dess had a feeling she would never escape this question.

“It’s great. I love him very much and we have a good time together touring around with the rest of the guys. They’re all like my family at this point.” She laughed, but all she wanted to do in that moment was cry, but Dess knew she couldn’t do that.

“Awesome. Well thanks so much and good luck with all of your stuff!” Micah said as he held out his hand and Dess reached out to shake it lightly. He was just doing his job, but she couldn’t help but feel irritated as Dess watched him walk off, microphone in hand.

Would she ever get away from that question? Dess didn’t know and in that moment she didn’t care-her head was pounding and all she wanted to do was find the bus and climb in to her bunk, curl up under the covers and look at pictures on her phone of her and Andy. That’s all she had been doing lately-looking at their old photos that they had taken together and selfies that they had taken to send to one another when they were a part.

Dess almost missed those days. The days of waking up to a new text message or email. Of falling asleep at night to Andy’s voice as he sung lowly in to the phone. The days before they loved one another as deeply as they did now-days of puppy love and midnight kisses. Dess still loved Andy, but a lot had changed over the course of two years-both of them had changed in a lot of ways.

“You going to be okay here if I head over to the AP Tent? I’ll be back before the guys set and then I’ll come over here right after to help you get everything settled.” Dess said as she trained her focus on Trish. The small girl smiled at her as she continued to fold shirts and restock their back table, her face beet red in the sun and heat.

“I’ll be fine. Go walk some of that aggression off Dess…you look mighty pissed.” She teased and Dess only stuck her tongue out at the younger girl as she moved out of their tent. She smiled as a group of girls approached and she could hear their squealing over her shirts even as she turned the corner.

Dess walked around, her eyes searching for the AP Tent and Andy, but all she could see were the many teenagers that had come out that day. Hair color spanning the entire rainbow and some kids had more metal in their faces than was imaginable. Dess took it all in with a smile and she laughed softly to herself as she finally approached the AP Tent and caught sight of Andy. All of the artists who were on the cover were there, all lined up outside of the tent, posing for a photo op before they began the signing.

Dess only smirked, shaking her head as she spotted Andy and noticed that he had changed in to a white shirt and his leather jacket-even though it was boiling outside. It wasn’t what he was wearing that was making her giggle-it was the way he was standing. Andy was up against one of the poles of the tent, one leg wrapped around it, almost like a stripper would a pole in a club and he was smirking slightly at the camera.

Dess knew in that instant that no matter how many times she had to answer that annoying question-she was proud to be the fiancé of Andrew Dennis Biersack…even though right now he looked more like Dennis Westhower.

Notes

Happy New Year everyone! Sorry it took me so long to get this updated-work has been Hell. BUT-now it should slow down and I can get more focused on the things that matter in life...YOU GUYS!

So what would you do if you were walking around Warped Tour and came upon Andy and Dess?

@Broken Wing
Here's my problem, though. As I am starting the final series, I won't be able to go to my regular computer because it's broken, and I can't view certain chapters on my iPad. So now my mom knows why I'm suddenly in a bitchy mood. :/
