A Demonic Love

Angel Eyes

Andy wiped at his cheeks as the wind whipped around his face. The stone stood before him, bleak and grey against a prefect blue sky and he could hardly read over the words that were carved there. It had been a month and still he felt the numbness in his heart-he probably always would. Andy felt his fists tighten at his sides as he collapsed onto his knees, his black hair getting in his face but he didn’t care. She had been taken from him-in an instant Lily had been taken from him and all Andy could feel now was hate.

He hated Demons-he hated God-he hated life-but most of all…he hated himself. He had gotten distracted and in that moment Lily had saved him, but she shouldn’t have. She should be alive now-not him and as Andy rested there in front of her on his knees he reached out a gloved finger and traced over the words that had been carved in to her stone.

Lily Carolyn Evans
Born December 26
Died October 31
Friend, Daughter and Savior RIP

Andy felt his anger get the best of him and suddenly he reached out a fist and let it fall against the stone in front of him. He winced as a huge crack appeared across Lily’s name and he instantly felt terrible. Andy looked up at the sky above him, his tears making his vision blurry and he squinted as he looked at the sun. The bright ball in the sky seemed to be growing brighter and brighter the more he looked at it and Andy held a hand over his eyes as he felt compelled to keep looking upward. There was a flash of light and Andy fell back until he was sitting on his ass, his hands behind him holding him up as he stared with his mouth open. All he could see were a huge pair of white wings, flowing black hair and as he caught site of the face before him Andy gasped.

Lavender eyes were staring him down and he instantly wondered if Lily had somehow come back to him.

“Hello Andy…” The woman before him spoke, her voice was strong and confident and Andy could only stare at her. This wasn’t Lily-it didn’t look like Lily, but her eyes were so hauntingly familiar that it was making him feel dizzy.

“Um-Hi?” He said as he rose to his feet, swiping his hands against his butt and Andy could only look at this strange woman who was standing in front of him and wonder where she had come from.

“Wondering who I am? My name is Uriel and I’m-“ Andy only smirked as he moved forward, his arms now crossed over his chest and he couldn’t help but feel slightly amazed.

“-the Angel of Destiny. Lily met you once…it kind of freaked her out.” He finished her sentence and the Angel only bowed her head, her black hair falling into her face slightly and Andy could no longer gaze in to her lavender eyes.

“Yes-yes she did. I have been sent here to explain a few things to you…” Uriel said and then Andy noticed that she had moved and was now perched on top of Lily’s gravestone. He felt a low growl grow in his chest, but stopped as the Angel held up a pale hand and motioned for him to calm down.

“Explain what? Why you took the love of my life from me? Because the only question I have is…why her?” He grew sad-all of the fight had left his heart and Andy had been left a shell of the person he had once been.

“She was never meant to live the first time Andy-this is why I have been sent…to explain to you what your new destiny is and what Lily’s always has been.” Uriel looked at him, her lavender eyes sad as she folded her hands across her lap but remained sitting. Andy only stood where he was, his arms still crossed over his chest as he cocked an eyebrow.

“So…explain.” He said simply and Uriel only smiled gently as she locked eyes with him. Everything in the world seemed to stop-the wind, time and even his heart beat seemed to slow down as Andy prepared himself for what he was about to hear.

What could this Angel possibly tell him about his destiny? That he didn’t have one anymore because with Lily’s death he already knew that. Andy had no purpose anymore-he had the band and the fans, but what were all of those things without the one person in his life who understood him? Lily had been there-she had pushed him to his breaking point and all the while he still remained hopelessly in love with her. She had left him and now he didn’t know how to live without her.

They had been working on the album, but even something that he used to love doing so much left a bad taste in his mouth. He could hardly sing Mortician’s Daughter any more, or Carolyn and forget singing Knives and Pens. No-anything that reminded him of Lily he had completely gotten rid of in his life. Silently he stood there, listening as the Angel Uriel began to speak.

“Lily was created based on a prophecy that our Lord became aware of at the time of your birth. He heard of a Half Demon-Half Human baby being born on Earth, but that he had been whisked away from his mother and taken down to Hell. That baby was destined to be the world’s undoing. He would be trained to be the fiercest fighter and when the time was right he would be given the throne to Hell-passed down from his father Satan…you.” Andy looked on with wide eyes, his mouth slightly open as he continued to listen.

“Lily was born in Heaven-an Angel. She was sent to Earth as a baby and was given the hardships in her life so that she would eventually join you in Hell. She was made to be your complete opposite and she was created to bring you to Earth. Our Lord has a plan for you Andy-a destiny and Lily was sent to you to help fulfill that destiny.” Andy was in shock. Lily-his Lily-had been an Angel all along and she had been given a terrible life and sent like a lamb to the slaughter to Hell so that he would fall for her, save her and return to Earth.

What. The. Fuck.

“Lily is being trained, as of this very moment, to be a Warrior of Heaven in the War against the Demons of Hell and Satan himself.” Uriel continued on and Andy only scoffed as he remembered the last battle he had fought in. Where had the Angels been then? Nowhere to be found and so many had died…for nothing.

“What War? We lost that War and with it I lost the love of my life…forget it…I’m out of here.” Andy said, frustration lacing his words as he turned but then stopped. Uriel was standing in front of him, her hands resting against his shoulders gently as she made eye contact with him…those haunting lavender eyes would always be his downfall it seemed.

“That was a battle-not a War and trust me when I say that a War is coming. Satan still wants you as his heir and he will stop at nothing to get you.” Uriel explained and Andy only sighed as he crossed his arms over his chest once more and looked up at the Angel before him.

“Why me?” He asked simply and Uriel only smiled as she turned him back around until they were both facing Lily’s grave once again.

“You have been trained as an ultimate fighter Andy-Satan himself cannot beat you. Coming to Earth-while making your Demonic self less powerful…has brought something else within you out.” She explained and Andy felt confusion creep in to his brain. He didn’t feel any different…what was she talking about?

“Your ability to love-to love humans…that is your power. Satan cannot feel emotion and therefore he does not have respect for his warriors. You-you love your Army Andy and with that you know they will fight to the death for you. Satan only wishes he had that kind of power…” Andy smirked as he thought back to how good it felt leading those kids in to battle. But it had been sad to see them fall and he wasn’t sure if he could handle that again.

“I-I’m just a singer in a band…” He said, his voice sad as Andy thought back to the fact that his one inspiration in life had been taken away from him.

“You are so much more than that. A Warrior. A Leader. A Savior.” Uriel explained as she looked down at him and Andy felt his heart flutter. It was like Lily was there with him-lifting him up and kicking him in the ass to get the results that she wanted.

“I don’t know if I can do this without Lily. Can…can I see her?” He asked shyly and Uriel only smiled softly as Andy felt himself being pulled in to a hug and then he was being led away from the grave before him.

“I’m afraid not. Lily is being trained right now and is not permitted to see anyone besides her mentor. However she did give me a message to give to you when I explained to her all that I have told you…” Andy perked up at the fact that Lily was thinking of him, but he couldn’t help but feel disappointed at hearing that she couldn’t tell him this herself.

“Wha-what did she want me to know?” Andy asked, his face hopeful and the Angel only laughed gently at him as she began to speak.

“She loves you and she’s sorry that all of this happened, but she knows that you’ll understand that it had to happen for a reason. She will be watching over you and she wants you to keep being the person that you are…keep saving lives Andy. It’s what you were meant to do and it’s your new destiny in life and there are so many kids out there like Lily that need you now…it’s their turn for you to be their Savior.” Uriel said and Andy watched as she began to fade from his site, but he called out because he knew deep down that there was more.

“Is that it? She didn’t say anything else about coming to see me? Did she say anything about what I should do next…what I’m supposed to do without her…” He felt that sadness grip his heart and Andy watched as Uriel kept fading, but the smile on her lips was still evident.

“She did have this to say-set the world on fire Andy…set the world on fire. Set the world on fire and watch it burn…” With that the Angel disappeared all together and Andy was left in the cemetery alone.

Andy looked down at Lily’s gravestone and his jaw dropped as he noticed that the crack that had fractured her name had disappeared. Andy looked up towards the sky, the sun was beginning to fade and he could see a faint spattering of stars. He located the North Star-the only star in the sky that was constant and as he looked up Andy noticed that there was a bright star right beside it. Looking up, he gasped as that star seemed to wink at him and in that instant he knew-that was his wishing star…his morning star.

It was Lily.

“Hey man! You ready to go?!” Someone called out to him and as Andy whipped around, he saw Ashley walking towards him, a set of car keys held out in his hand. Ashley had been there for Andy over the past month, which shocked Andy, but he was grateful for it none the less.

“Yeah…yeah I am. Hey-can we go by the studio first? I have one last song that I want to put on the album.” Andy said as he walked up to his best friend and threw his arm around the bassist’s shoulders.

“Sure thing…you okay…you look like you just saw a ghost.” Ashley said as he took Andy in and they walked in silence back toward where Ash had parked the van.

“No-no ghost…just a set of Beautiful Remains that will stay with me for a long time…forever.” Andy smiled as he looked up at the sky and Ashley just gave him a strange look as the two parted and Andy got into the passenger’s side.

As Ashley started the car, Andy only looked up towards the sky and noticed that the same star was still winking at him. A soft smile came to his lips as Andy blew a small kiss upward and he knew in that moment that Lily had never left him…she never would. She was his everything…she was his hero…his savior and he would always be grateful to have her in his life even if it was only for a short while. It was the best thing that had ever happened to him and he now had a new destiny. He had a new plan-he would set the world on fire and he would think only of Lily as he watched it burn.
