“Uh-yeah. We just got off a bus and hadn’t really thought past getting out here.” Lily smiled up at Jake, who glanced first at her and then he trained his eyes on Andy, who was currently staring off around him, a look of awe and wonder reflecting in his eyes.

“Where did you guys come from?” Jake asked and Lily felt her heart sink. Why was he being so nosey? Did it fucking matter where they came from?

“Hell.” Andy said simply and Lily felt herself laugh nervously as she looked first to Jake, rolling her eyes as she smirked and the she turned to Andy. She tried to give him a ‘shut up and let me handle this’ look and she hoped he could read minds because anymore outbursts like that and they would remain homeless.

“Uh-Ohio. It was like Hell, what with all of the people there who were so closed minded. We were hoping that the people out here would be a little more accepting…” Lily covered and Jake only smiled as he held out his arms towards the interior of his shop.

“Well this is one place that you can always come to be accepted. So, my friend Jinxx runs a shelter for young kids who need a place to stay. Do you want the address?” He asked and Lily nodded, a smile on her face as she squeezed Andy’s hand tightly. They wouldn’t have to sleep on the street tonight, but what would they do for money?

“Here. Just tell him Jake sent you. Feel free to look around, but I’ll see you guys later…” Jake said as he moved to ring up a customer and Lily looked down at the piece of paper that she held in her hands.


Lily and Andy looked around for a bit longer, but as the sun began to creep lower and lower towards the hills, Lily knew that they had to get to this place before it got completely dark. Andy could protect her down in Hell, but Lily knew that the streets of LA were a whole other beast-one that couldn’t be fought with a sword or a dagger. Andy reluctantly left, waving to Jake as they passed by the counter and Lily just laughed. Andy seemed so in love with music and the idea of music that Lily was pretty sure he thought that that was all there was to being human. Speaking of-she would have to talk to him about things that he could and couldn’t say now that they were on Earth. Like talking about Hell like it was an actual place and Satan as if he were a person walking down the street.


“So Andy…uh-I kind of told Jake that I was your girlfriend…” Lily blushed up at him and as Andy looked down at her he felt confused. He had heard her say that word to Jake and he had no idea what it meant or why she was blushing about it now.

“Yeah. So?”He replied as they headed left down the street and Lily seemed to be looking at each building as they passed. The buildings on this side of town were more rundown, with people hanging outside of them, watching Lily and Andy as they passed by and Andy felt the need to keep a hand on the hilt of his sword as he walked.

“So to humans that actually means something…it means that we’re romantically involved…” Her eyes were wide as she looked up at him and Lily sighed heavily as Andy still seemed to be clueless as he looked down at her, those blue eyes looking deep into hers.

“What do I have to do?” He asked, his voice unsure as Lily just giggled and kept them moving. The sun was slowly going down and she could see that people were beginning to watch them a little too closely as they walked down the sidewalk.

“Nothing really. Just hold my hand, kiss my cheek every once and a while…” She stopped there, puffing out a breath as she looked up at the building in front of them. Thankfully they had made it in one piece and as Lily walked up the steps, Andy grasped for her hand, stopping her as she spun around to face him.

“Kiss? What does that mean?” Andy asked as he slowly walked up the stairs, his eyes never leaving hers as he held on to her hand and Lily just looked up at him softly.

“I-uh-you kiss someone by placing your lips against their skin. Like their cheeks or their nose…their lips.” She said the last part slowly as she felt Andy rest a hand on her jaw, his thumb tracing over her skin gently as he just stared down into her eyes. Lily looked up at him, her eyes closing softly as Andy began to lower his face down towards hers.

“You must be Lily and Andy!” A voice called out from behind them and Lily jumped at the sound, the moment broken as both she and Andy looked behind them.


A short twenty something guy stood there, leaning up against the open door and Lily could hear shouting and the sounds of a television coming out from somewhere in the depths of the large building. The guy who stood in front of them was slightly shorter than Lily and he was certainly a lot shorter than Andy, but he had really pretty light blue eyes and his face was framed by his shaggy dark black hair. He seemed nice enough and Lily smiled at him softly as she moved forward and placed her hand in his out stretched one. Andy seemed to hesitate, but followed her example and then he moved to stand next to her, awkwardly placing an arm around her shoulder.


“Yeah! Are you Jinxx?” Lily asked as Jinxx only nodded and motioned for them to come inside. Lily and Andy followed him silently and she watched as Jinxx moved behind them and locked four bolt locks on the door before turning to face them.

“Yeah, Jake called and said you would be coming. How long have you guys been in LA?”He asked as Lily bit down on her lip and followed him down a long hallway which ended at the doorway to the kitchen. Jinxx sat down at the table, patting the seat next to him, which Lily took and Andy flopped down in a chair next to her.

“Only a few hours. Are you sure it’s okay if we stay here?” Lily asked, her stomach growly loudly as she picked up a delicious scent that was coming from the stove. She realized in the moment that she hadn’t eaten anything since the night that she had died.

“Of course! That’s why this place is here! Tomorrow I wanted to help the two of you find jobs…you can stay as long as you want but you’ll have to help out around the place a little bit.” His voice was kind as Jinxx stood then and moved towards the stove. Lily watched as he made all three of them plates of food and then sat one in front of her and the other in front of Andy, who looked unsure but followed her lead anyways.

“Sounds really great.” Lily said and Andy just nodded as he began to eat in earnest. Down in Hell food was not necessary to live, it was more something that Demons enjoyed-one of the only things they were allowed to enjoy. Andy smiled over at Lily, who had finished eating and he reached a hand out to grab hers, squeezing gently as Jinxx just smiled at the two of them.

“So what brings you to LA?” He asked and Lily took a sip from the glass of water that had been placed in front of her and before she spoke she gave Andy a look. Don’t speak and just follow me.

“We came out here from Ohio…it was just a really negative environment and we both love music so we were hoping that by coming out here we could make some things happen.” Like what-she didn’t know but it sounded good and Lily just smiled as Jinxx nodded his head and turned to Andy. Oh. Shit.

“So you like music Andy? That’s cool, both Jake and I play the guitar. Do you play any instruments?” Jinxx asked and Lily held her breath as Andy smirked and shook his head.

“I do love music, but no, no I don’t play any instruments.” He stated simply and Lily let out the breath that she had been holding, smiling quickly as Jinxx looked at her, obviously he was asking her the same thing, without actually speaking.

“I don’t play any instruments either…” Lily said, her eyes lingering on Andy’s face as he looked up at her, his brows furrowed in confusion.

“You can sing though…” Andy’s voice was low and Lily shut her eyes at his statement. The less people knew about them the better and Andy was making it nearly impossible at this point.

“Well that’s cool. If you want I can show you guys to your room?” Jinxx asked and Lily only nodded as all three of them stood and Lily followed behind Jinxx, throwing Andy a look as they exited the kitchen.


The building they were in was huge and seemed to be laid out in a weird way, with the stairs right in front of the door as you walked in and there was a small room off to the right where a television was blaring loudly. The stairs were old and creaky as they climbed, passing doors as they stopped on landings and Dess realized that this used to be an old tenant building with a common area downstairs and a common kitchen, but separate rooms. They walked up three flights of stairs before Jinxx stopped at a closed door and held a hand out to unlock it, pushing the wood forward as Lily peeked her head around the doorframe. The room was small with a long dresser along one wall and a medium sized bed sat in the center, its headboard up against the wall. The sheets looked clean and neat and as Lily walked into the room, she smiled as she noticed some of the posters that lined the otherwise barren walls.


“I figured it would be okay for you two to share a room since you’re a couple. Well it’s getting to be time for lights out, but the bathroom is down the hall-you share it with four other people who are on this floor and I will see you guys tomorrow. Night!” Jinxx said happily as he exited the room, pulling the door closed and Lily turned to look at Andy. They would be sharing a bed? She gulped loudly as she moved to sit down, the bed sinking slightly under her weight as Lily looked up at Andy.

“Are-are you okay with this?” She asked, her light eyes unsure as Andy just smirked and moved to remove his jacket, boots and sword-thankfully he hadn’t lost it and thankfully it was well blended in with his all black outfit. Andy just looked down at Lily as he stood there in a white t-shirt and his black leather pants.

“Yeah. It’ll be fine Lily…” His voice was calm as he moved to unbutton his pants and Lily sucked in a deep breath as she stood up and spun around to face the opposite wall.


What was she going to do? Lily had never slept with a guy in the same bed. But-Andy was pretty oblivious when it came to anything human and she was pretty sure he wouldn’t even know what to do-even if he wanted to do anything with her. Which he probably didn’t and oh God this was so awkward. Slowly Lily removed her pants and her jacket, being left in her long grey Rancid shirt and she turned around to find that Andy was already in the bed, his body covered by a sheet as he smiled up at her. Good Lord that lopsided grin was going to be her end. Lily blushed at his smile and she slowly made her way over to the bed, shutting off the light before climbing under the covers. She stared up at the ceiling and suddenly she shivered. It was strange being back among the living and it was even stranger to think that she was sleeping next to someone like Andy.


“Are you cold?” His voice was low and deep in the darkness and Lily shivered again. Yes, she was cold but she didn’t know what to do about it at this point.

“Alittle…” Her voice was small and meek in the silence of the night and Andy smiled to himself as he moved closer to her, pulling her to him until she was cuddled next to him and his smile widened as her shivering stopped. He bent his head down, he could faintly see her hair in the dark and Andy smirked as he placed a soft kiss against the top of her head.

“Goodnight Lily…” He said lowly and Andy smiled as he felt her breathing slow.

“…night…” Her voice was slow and groggy and Andy only smiled as he shut his eyes, pulling her closer to him as he drifted off into the first peaceful sleep he had probably ever experienced.
