We Caught Fire

Castles In The Sky

Weeks went by and the band finished up their tour in the UK and now they were getting ready to play their first show on the Ireland side of things. Dess had been having a blast and there really hadn’t been any more public problems with fans, but the online issues only seemed to grow worse. Odessa couldn’t even venture on to her tumblr anymore and had stopped posting to her instagram over a month ago. Andy felt horrible and finally with a day off from doing performances he had a surprise for Dess.

“Can I please look now? I feel like you’re taking me to my death here Biersack.” She grumbled, her eyes covered by a black bandana and Dess could feel Andy’s hands griping her shoulders as he led her up what felt like a stone path.

“Nope. Not until I get you right where I want you…” He whispered into her ear before he placed a soft kiss on her earlobe.

“God…you and your surprises.” She sighed. Odessa could feel the wind whipping around her and she could smell the salty ocean air.

“You look forward to them…don’t deny it.” He smirked against her ear as finally they came to a stop. Andy seemed to move from behind her to stand in front of her and Dess felt like her heart was going to beat out of her chest. Was this it? Was this the proposal he had been threatening her with for over a month? God…what would she say?

“I swear if I take this blindfold off to find you on one knee…”She grumbled and he laughed at her softly. Slowly he reached behind her head, her soft hair tickling his fingers as he fumbled with the knot of the bandana.

“Okay. Ready? One, two…” He said softly as he removed her blind fold and smiled as he heard her gasp.

“Oh…Andy…” She couldn’t find the words and instead she just looked out in front of her.

They were standing on a cliff, overlooking the ocean, and she could hear the waves beating against the rocks below them. Dess looked off in the distance, everything here was so green and fresh looking and as her eyes scanned the horizon she was in shock. There, on the left of them, was a real live castle complete with stone walls and turrets. Odessa felt Andy come up from behind her, his arms wrapping around her softly as his head came to rest against her shoulder and neck.

“I had someone do some research…Welcome home Dess.” He smiled against her skin as he watched her bring her hands up to her face. She turned to him then, her eyes wide as she stared up.

“This…”She turned back to look at the castle and then back at him and then back again. He laughed at her disbelief and shock.

“This is Montgomery Castle. This is where your family lived for hundreds of years babe. It’s a historical land mark now.” He placed his hands on her cheeks, his thumbs wiping away her tears gently.

“I-I can’t believe you would do this for me…”She was still in shock and silently Andy took her arm in his and he steered her over towards the stone walkway that led to the large front doors.

“I’ve told you, a million times over, that I would do anything for you Dess. You’ve been having a hard time with things and I wanted to get you away from it all for a day.” He said softly as he looked down at her. She had tears still falling softly down her cheeks, but Andy knew that this time it was from happiness.

The couple entered through the doors and Dess felt her mouth drop open as she took in her surroundings. Everything was as it would have been back when this was a real home. Tapestries hung on the walls and Odessa walked over to one, running her fingers over the threading carefully. She walked around the room silently; Andy stood off in one corner and watched her take everything in. He was so happy that he could make this work for her. She had been having a hard time, with the fans but mostly with dealing with the fact that Moira was not getting better. Unbeknownst to Dess, Andy had spoken to Trish on the phone earlier that day and it didn’t look good.

The couple walked around the inside of the castle quietly, hand in hand as Dess looked around her in amazement. Andy was just enjoying seeing the girl he loved happy for once on this trip. Finally they exited through a set of back doors and came upon a very large garden. Seeing a stone bench, Andy led Dess over to it so that they could sit. Lighting a cigarette he sat next to her, when suddenly Andy heard her crying softly from beside him.

“Those are happy tears right?” He asked, snuffing out his cigarette as he brought an arm out to wrap around her shoulders.

“Bittersweet tears. I love this Andy…I love you so much.” She wiped at her eyes, her makeup smudging slightly and he sighed heavily.

“I love you too…so what’s the problem?” He asked, a slight smile in his voice as he looked over to her.

“I just feel so…so guilty!” She sobbed, her head coming to rest in her hands and all Andy could do was rub her back gently. He knew she needed to get this out…she had been holding things in this entire time to seem strong for him.

“Moira and I had always planned to travel. I was going to bring her over here once she turned eighteen…” She sobbed, placing her head against his shoulder and Andy just sat there, his arms around her as she let go.

“I just feel like I left her behind. I know she isn’t getting better and I’m jus-just so scared that I’m going to not be there for…”She broke off, her tears swallowing her words and Andy placed a finger underneath her chin, tilting her head up and he looked her straight in the eyes.

“Stop. It. You are driving yourself crazy Dess. Moira is sick, yes, but we will know when something happens. You aren’t the only one who’s worried here.” He kissed her then, her tears salty on his lips as he shut his eyes.

The two of them sat there for a while, Dess had stopped crying but Andy wouldn’t let her go. He couldn’t imagine what she was going through and he felt powerless to help. He had all of these fans coming up to him, thanking him for saving them and yet the two girls he wanted to save the most he couldn’t. He wasn’t a hero…he was just some guy who was in a band. Finally they headed off back towards the car that was waiting for them and Andy watched as Dess stopped and bent down to pick something up.

“A rock? I bring you to a gorgeous castle and you want to leave with a rock?” He laughed as he watched Dess stand back up, slipping the rock into her pocket as she turned to him.

“I love the castle and this isn’t for me…” She said and he understood. Andy knew that Moira would never see this place…she would probably never see the age of seventeen.

“Lets get back shall we?” He linked his arm with hers and they walked over towards the car. Andy let Dess get in first and he smiled over at her.

“So a few more weeks and then we’ll be home. We’re supposed to start laying tracks down in the studio and then its back over here for the summer.” He sighed, even to Andy it sounded exhausting.

“You want me along for the ride?” Dess asked, her head coming to rest against his shoulder. She felt tired and was ready to get back to the states.

“I couldn’t imagine it being any other way…” He looked down towards her, his lips going up into that one sided grin that made her heart melt.

“I know I haven’t been the easiest person to be around these few weeks, but I love everything about being here with you…” She kissed him then, their lips melting together as the car drove a long over the bumpy backroads.

They sat in a silent bliss, their fingers intertwined and Odessa felt like her heart was lighter. She wasn’t thinking about the hatred from the fans, or her sadness over her sister. No, all she could think about was the wonderful guy sitting next to her. The one guy in her life who she knew would die for her if he had to.

Notes

So due to a seeming lack of interest-I'm only updating once every other day. Sorry, but I work my fanny off for this story and I'm kind of tired of getting nothing out of it(other than my own love for writing).

I love all of the people who have reviewed and believe me when I say that I really do appreciate everything you send me.
