“Andy stop! I can’t breathe!” Odessa cried out in laughter as she looked at Andy who was seated next to her.

“But I’m Batman!” He smirked over at her. He had taken their place cards and with his butter knife and fingers nails he had managed to turn it in to a mask.

“You are ridiculous.” She smirked over at him as he smiled, proud of himself.


He reached over then, his mask forgotten as he took her hand in his and leaned down to kiss her knuckles gently. His eyes burned with so much love for her that Odessa was surprised that he wasn’t setting things on fire. She sighed, happy to be here with him as they had been having a really great time together. They had danced until finally the band decided to take a break and they had just finished their dinner. It was ten minutes until Midnight and Odessa smiled as she reached out and took Andy’s other hand in her own.


“Lets go up to the roof. There is a fireworks display going off right before Midnight.” She raised her eyebrows and nodded her head towards a door in the corner that had ‘Roof Access’ written across it.


Andy took her hand, spinning her around so that her dress flared out around her knees and followed as she walked over towards the door. Looking around to make sure no one was looking, Odessa pushed open the door and led him up a short set of stairs. The night was clear as they walked out onto the roof but it was also very cold. Odessa wrapped her arms around herself, but smiled as she felt Andy come up from behind her, his own arms wrapping around her tightly.


“How much do you love me?” She asked, leaning her head against his shoulder as he placed a small kiss on the side of her head.

“I’ve told you…more than I can ever scream.” He smiled against her head and she turned to face him. They both jumped as fireworks went off in the distance, making the sky turn different colors.

“Be serious Andy…” She looked up at him, her small hands taking his and she held them up to her chest.

“I never thought I could love someone as much as I love you Dess. You make me a better person and I can feel this physical change in myself when you are around. I can’t function when you aren’t around. I would die for you a hundred times over before I see you cry again. I can’t explain the passion I feel inside for you…you have become a part of me.” He looked down at her as she felt the tears come to her eyes.

“What would happen if I couldn’t come out to LA with you? Would you still want to make it work?” She asked as she bit down on her lip and avoided his eyes.

“I would move heaven and earth to be with you Dess. I would fly out to see you, even if it cost me every cent I make from our sales…I have to be with you.” He kissed her then.


Their kiss was magical as fireworks went off into the distance. She could feel his love through their kiss and as Odessa broke away she looked up at him, the tears in her eyes threatening to spill on to her cheeks. He held her to him as they watched the night sky light up in the distance and they both felt truly at peace. Suddenly a beeping came from Andy’s wrist and he looked down at his watch.


“Midnight baby. Happy New Year.” He said as she smiled up at him and felt his lips brush against hers. She grabbed the back of his neck, her fingers digging in to his skin as she deepened the kiss.

“Happy New Years Andy.” She said, resting her head against his as the sky exploded with fireworks.


They stood there quietly for a moment, both reveling in what this past year had been for them. For Odessa she had found herself again…she was able to freely be the person that she had once been and it made her happy. She had also found someone that she believed was meant for her. They were opposites in a lot of ways, but Andy brought a joy into her life that she was scared would never be there after her father had passed.Andy had finally started seeing his dreams come true. The band was exploding and they were working on a new record. Most of all he had found his soul mate in Odessa. They drove one another crazy sometimes, but he loved that she put up with his crazy life and he smiled down at her as he remembered their deal from the previous summer.


“Hey…it’s now officially the end of the year. Aren’t you supposed to have an answer for me?” He asked as she looked up at him and smiled. She kissed him lightly, her tears coming to surface again as she reached in her purse and pulled out the envelope that had come in the mail earlier in the week.

“I do…” She said as she handed him the envelope and watched as he pulled out the official looking paper.

He read it silently as the tears spilled down her cheeks and she moved her hands to wipe them away. Soon Andy had finished reading and he looked down at her, his own eyes filled with tears.


“Oh Dess…” He said as he took her into his arms and kissed her lightly, both of their tears mingling for the last time.
